Could have been managed better by CA me thinks. Rightly they had to try him in tests, but should have been quickly re-aligned as a precious commodity for ODI's and T20's and told to maintain his speed and swing for those formats. 95mph with a hint of swing is absolute gold dust, and CA squandered it. He wasnt like Shane Bond with the perennial bad luck of injury.

The kind of bowler who used to run in wanting to bowl fast every ball. A fellow Aussie player said about him "In State cricket batsmen were frightened of him. He once yorked someone and the ball hit the foot, blood was seeping through the batsman's sock" That's how scary fast this guy was! mixed bowling action? Didn't understand

    • @Farrakh-ch2ti
      @Farrakh-ch2ti ปีที่แล้ว +70

I'm no expert on the biomechanics of bowling so I will try to explain the best I can.
In bowling you have 2 types of action. The front on action, chest facing towards the batsman ,
or the side on slingy action , where the chest is facing more towards the umpire at delivery stride.
When you are bowling front on your top and bottom half of the body should be aligned. So if your chest is facing the batsman and your toes towards the umpire it's going to cause a lot of stress on the body.
The same applies to the side on slingy action. If the top half of your body isn't aligned with the bottom it's going to cause injuries.
This is just my opinion, but I think although Shaun Tait had a slingy release his action was neither front or side on. He suffered from injuries in his career, mainly knee, because of this.
Look at the longevity of some of the greatest fast bowlers
      James Anderson
      Glenn McGrath
      Courtney Walsh
All smooth, fluid, front on bowlers.

Met Shaun Tait at a bar in Mumbai once. We chatted for a while. I used to bowl at university an asked him how he bowled so quick. He said he just could.
I took a photo with him and put an arm around his shoulder. Bloke was built like an absolute rock.

Crowd did not react in his first 3 overs. Or even when he hit 100mph They were all stunned. If you have never been to an international cricket match and watched a quality fast bowler clock 95+mph consistently in an over- you don’t know what you’re missing! That’s why they were silent. The crowd was taking in how special this is and were stunned at same time.

    • @allaboutnothing99

You are just over imagining things. Without the speed being shown on the screen, humans eye can't tell the difference between a 150kmph and 160kmph cricket ball. And that crowd is used to 150 plus bowling.

To be able to bowl 95+ mph at all is rare. To be able to sustain it is unheard of. The only English bowler in modern times (colour TV) who could do both was actually Devon Malcolm. Like Tait, he was a big, strong boy. Sadly, he played in some awful teams and was treated abysmally.

Good heat from Tait. The second and third outswingers on the vid were sensational to right hand bat at 96 and 97 mph. Then 2:03 there are two perfect balls to lefties at 95 and 97 mph. That ball to Strauss was a cracker. Beautiful bowling at that pace. The other highlight is 5:31. Greatest fieldsman i've ever seen still doing it at 35yo.
Yardy can at least tell the grand kiddies how he faced guys like Tait. Collingwood digs out a 98mph yorker first ball and it goes for 3 !!! Great video. Cheers.
