The Harper: Kayak Paddle Snapped in Two

Rob snapped his whitewater kayak paddle nearly in the middle of the shaft. This is a fairly straightforward repair using woven carbon fiber sleeve and epoxy resin.

Looks like your Werner Surge paddle snapped in the same place mine did. Was it where the shaft began to slightly ovalise? Seems like a weak point.

Not any more or less slippery than a factory stock paddle shaft.
