In part 9 of INFRA, the real civil engineering simulator game, I find myself freeclimbing the world's tallest radio tower and trying not to look down as I'm 1000ft in the air with no safety eqiupment... It's all part of a day's work for a real civil engineer in Infra!

About INFRA:
INFRA is a first-person puzzle adventure PC game sold in Steam. The puzzles are detailed and grounded in engineering so you may only solve them with wits and patience. INFRA is not a horror game, but you may come to feel so after playing it. what i never get about those kinds of wallets: where do you have all your coins? guess it might be regional, but over here people usually have way fewer cards (and half of them aren't even the same size due to weird govt issued cards like driver's license/etc) but way more spare change

gotta love how there's an airport and lots of big buildings all around you in clear line of sight and decent range but you gotta fix this one cell tower first :P

I often have better signal and faster internet in the middle of no where or small towns then in cites...
@@ke6gwf That's primarily due to the load on the equipment. More people, more phones, more signals. Also, concrete and steel tend to disrupt radio waves. That's a lot of interference to contend with on both the physical and technical fronts.
That said, there is a possible explanation behind Mark's lack of signal in Infra. A lot of the infrastructure in the game is in absolute shambles. The dam, the water treatment plant, the various power plants... Who's to say the cell towers aren't also falling apart? Even if the cell towers within his line of sight from the tower could connect to his phone, there's a good chance they were either too busy (aforementioned 'load'; Mark definitely wasn't the only one trying to place a call at that time) or completely non-functional.
@@hauntedshadowslegacy2826 what I am talking about is that many places in the country I have found 5g towers with strong signal that had been upgraded from old 3g, while in urban areas there are lots of 4g towers with weak signal (even if in unobstructed line of sight) that will take longer to upgrade because there are so many of them, so the upgrade budgets and crews are overwhelmed by the volume.
Yes, there can also be overloaded user counts, but that's when you have lots of bars of signal, but slow connection.
@@ke6gwf Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the bars just your proximity to the nearest cell tower?
@@tharnok5191 yes and no. The signal strength meter on the phone shows how strong the signal is that you are receiving, which is related to distance to the tower, trees, buildings, hills etc in between, interference, multi path distortion, etc, and even how you are holding the phone antenna, since your body and hand make a good rf shield.

At this point it would need to be tool assisted, no way for a human to keep up.

This game goes from going underground to discovering dead body, going through dangerous factories and now climbing tower. Edit: blowing up tunnels, staying on a raft through the sewers, fixing toxic leaks without safety precautions

Climbing without clipping on is very common, although less and less so these days because of strictly-enforced OSHA. Climbing without support is _way_ faster thanks to not having to unhook and find a new anchor point every 3 steps. ...And less tiresome. And when you have to climb 1000ft straight up, having energy at the top is important.
...Or so say those who do it. And they would know.
This game is awesome.!! Feels like the same chapter type storyline that Portal, and Half Life have.. more of this please .!!

When this ends, I want a full summary of the story. Its getting really hard to keep up and remember every last detail
I'll try and do a quick recap at the start of each episode maybe!
I've done 2 complete playthroughs and I still haven't gotten all of the story. It's that complex.
In previous levels there were fliers with a number to call about a missing raft, the one the player rides in the flooded tunnels. When called the owner of the raft will reward you when you eventually return to the city.
My mistake, the fliers were actually for the missing dock.

That beer phone numbers could very likely be a real phone number in NL it matches the format and has the Rotterdam area code
I'm concerned that you've stopped taking photos of all the broken things, or is that no longer important in the game at this stage now that you are more Indiana Jones and the Temple of OH&S?
Inside earlier levels, there was a poster containing a sign with a phone number to call if you found someone's dock. If you call the number in this level the person will thank you and leave a letter in a later level (it also makes the later level easier)
The game has so many things that impact levels later on, like calling the beer thing you discovered or the dam you connected to the grid

At 4:24 ... I love how in this game Lays chips (called Walkers in the UK; same company, different brand name) are parodied with "Lies Salt & Air". The chips are so light, it feels like the bag is mostly full of air. Which it is, but they have a reason for this. The "air" in the bag of chips is actually nitrogen. It's an inert gas. They pump it into the bags for two reasons: One, it provides a little cushioning for the chips during shipping, so you don't end up with a bag of crumbs; and two, it keeps oxygen out of the bag, so they don't oxidize and turn brown while they're sitting on the shelf.

LOL! If only fixing a transmitter was that quick, Our's caught fire 2 days ago and the TV, Radio, Mobile and Pagers are still off.
If you explored Mark's office enough you might've noticed (around the sauna room I think) there was a note about a beer-buying contest. Whoever brought in the most beer would get a small raise (Mark's idea).

INFRA is a beautiful game full of mysteries. Way too close to an actual engineering walkdown except (in the US at least) you aren't allowed to fix anything, you can only take photos. You really have to play to get a full sense of the steelworks' size and sense of desolation. Makes the view at the top so much more worth it.
