  • Making a wooden wand so that my friend George can stick a retro-reflector on the end and bring it to Harry Potter World.
    Also, did I say I got my stock "within 5 thou of 1-1/8 inches? I meant 5 tenths..." #whoops

    Very excited you summarized this! And was really bummed I was busy during the live stream. I am going to be using this technique so I greatly appreciate the video. To flatten boards you can shim underneath your stock on the fourth corner that isn't touching the waste board, machine, flip and do the opposite side, only clamping it with Cam clamps. Keep up the awesome work Winston!

    Wow, that was cool to watch. That wand looks very delicate. Good to see the process you went through.

    Wow! I'd love to try this some day on my X-Carve. I have a friend who would lose her mind getting a real wood elder wand! What a fantastic idea!

    Awesome looking wand! You can now use the stock from which you cut this out to make a nice box for it. It already has a cutout for it.

    This is awesome! I made the Elder wand on the lathe with a Dremel using walnut, I would never have realized you could achieve something similar on a CNC. Your double-sided machining work is awesome!

    While I have NO IDEA what an Elder Wand is, but I do recognize a GREAT double-sided machining video. Nice work Winston! Now about them plastic clamps.......lol.

    Jankey Azhell - I think I have some those tools like your router table the name sounds familiar. Great video and careful attention to detail in the build as always. I really like the idea of using the slots for the toe clamps to keep the top clear. That's one I'll file away for later.

Second. “Janky as hell router table” made be crack up. Last. I’ve been wanting to turn this on a lathe for a while. Until I saw this. Dang you Winston. Go an up the game. 🤣

    Great job, when you zeroed the 1st side then cut your aligning pins your zero would have moved. How did you setup the 2nd cutting, i would guess with a mark

    Great project! BTW... When you were making your final facing pass, could you have zeroed the bit on the wasteboard and done a finishing pass at the height you needed?

    • @WinstonMakes
      @WinstonMakes  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's where I set my zero, but because I was using the trick where you wiggle a piece of paper under the endmill, and jogging at 0.1mm increments, I was +/- a couple thou with my initial setting. I should have used the touch probe in hindsight...

    Winston, have you ditched the dewalt?...

    • @WinstonMakes
      @WinstonMakes  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's installed in the router table for the foreseeable future. With my ambitions to do more metal cutting, 10k RPM is a must-have feature for me.

  • @JoshuaAugustusBacigalupi
    @JoshuaAugustusBacigalupi 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice, Winston! But how did you reset your X,Y zeros? Because, although you've registered the board for flipping, you moved your piece back. Thanks!

    • @WinstonMakes
      @WinstonMakes  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Zero is relative to wherever I machine the indexing pin holes on the wasteboard.

    • @JoshuaAugustusBacigalupi
      @JoshuaAugustusBacigalupi 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@WinstonMakes Of course. Thanks. I just had to wrap my head around the drill hole tool path in Fusion 360 that is used to drill holes in both the stock and the waste board.

  • @michaelkelly3158
    @michaelkelly3158 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Do you have a source for those indexing pins? Looking to do some double sided machining soon myself! Thanks for another great video Winston.

    • @WinstonMakes
      @WinstonMakes  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Home depot 1/4" aluminum rod stock. Not *perfectly* straight, but across the span of 1-2" it's good enough. Especially for woodworking applications. Otherwise there's always Mcmaster... $$$

    • @michaelkelly3158
      @michaelkelly3158 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I should probably have mentioned I live in the UK, but thinking about it.. if I just look for aluminium rod stock I should be able to get something reasonable. Cheers dude!

    • @WinstonMakes

      Even a wooden dowel could work if you find a good one. Bring calipers to the hardware store.

    • @michaelkelly3158
