- Mikel Arteta's tactics. Even though the Spaniard has only managed Arsenal for 4 matches, the tactical shift in the club is already clear to see. In this video, I analyse how he is setting Arsenal up and the similarities between his management style and Pep Guardiola's

After the following scorelines under Arteta:
Bournemouth 1 - 1 Arsenal
Arsenal 1 - 2 Chelsea
Arsenal 2 - 0 Manchester United
Arsenal 1 - 0 Leeds United
It is understandable why some have looked at these and concluded that 2 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss is not an incredible start to the Spaniard's reign. However, what these scorelines don't show is Arteta's tactics.
Arteta has taken inspiration from his time working with one of football's greatest pioneers in Pep Guardiola and the similarities between Arsenal and Manchester City are already beginning to form.
In this video, I analyse the tactics Mikel Arteta has used so far, and discuss the similarities and differences with Pep Guardiola's tactics.

Arteta is playing inverted full back, this style suits tierney more as he is more comfortable in central areas. And Anm over bellerin , bellerin has to work his ass now to compete with anm who is established in this role now.
Also don’t forget chambers , he can play both cdm and rb , man I would have loved what chambers could have done as inverted full back but sadly got injured at just the wrong time
@@The12thManFootball it's got to be Tierney, despite Kolasinac getting into great positions his delivery is very poor, Tierney has the ability to cross from deep & the acceleration to get to the byline and cut back without being blocked. Just a shame the injuries he's barely caught a break since he signed

I love Arteta, I stand by everything he does win or lose. Also I love how he has improved Ozil in such a quick time considering he is my fav player I cant wait to see more. I believe he will take this team back up as long as The Arsenal club stands by him.

Couldn't agree more! Ozil isn't the only one that's shown improvements- the double pivot of Torreira and Xhaka now protect the back four better; Luiz is playing like he's Rio Ferdinard; Pepe looks rejuvenated etc etc.
If there's any criticism from me, it'd be that the players sometimes feel jaded in the latter 30 mins of games, but We already know that's due to the high-press style he's introduced and players will adapt to it better later.
@@OkA-007 Yes. I love the high press high pressure style that Arteta has introduced. Not something thats easy to do considering they were just standing around just a couple months ago. If he can get there fitness up it will make a big difference to the club. Xhaka is great at the moment and so is Luiz, I agree. Hopefully a couple of transfers and we will see a bigger difference.
@john moore Its not even close to what Emery was doing. Players were no way near this intensity with Emery, they were literally walking around under him, their bad auro was showing through the screen, they weren't evwm celebrating goals at one point. If you're saying we should move on to another team then you should definitely move on. I will stick by Arteta and Arsenal through thick and thin. Emery and Arteta there's a mountain of difference, its not about the results its about what we see on the feild and the passion they are portraying. I'm personally enjoying it. But I respect your opinions and I understand you want results fast, and I hope they will come soon.

Great video mate.. I think Arsenal are simply lucky to have Arteta at the helm.. He knows how to juice out the best performance out of any player.. No matter the experience.. Even in draws and losses they are appreciated.. Super exciting times for Arsenal fans..

It's actually not a 3-2-4-1 but more of a 2-3-3-2when moving forward. This allows torreira to be in the mid, mopping up loose balls and have niles on the right with Xhaka on the left to help out. It also allows to overload the midfield to help out with the high pressing and allowing another wall of defence if a transition occurs for the opposition.
Good, solid analysis of our current tactics under Arteta. All I would add is that he has fit the system to the players currently available to him. We may see this change in the future, though. Furthermore, we have some quality young players coming through now that are almost ready for the first team and I wouldn't be surprised if the majority of them are in the starting 11 in a few years time. Players such as Maitland-Niles, Willock, Smith-Rowe, Nelson, Nketiah along with Tierney, Bellerin, Martinelli and Guendouzi, plus any others we happen to come across make for an exciting future with Mikel as boss!

Ozil's recent peak in ground coverage is more of an indictment on his prior lack of effort than anything. He still shows little change in pace and overall aggression. It is no coincidence that Arsenal's poor form traces back to Ramsey's injury last season and has continued with his departure. The failure to resign Ramsey sealed Emery's fate. While Ozil has incredible vision, the tenacious Welshman would have been much better suited to Arteta's high-press system.

What I understand when he said "we didn't really respect what he had said" is that they did not execute what Arteta had asked of them which is why Leeds had total control of the first half and that is why Arteta shouted at them during half time.

Great analysis and smooth video as most have said. Though I have to say something about the "similarities" vs Man city; There was no need for that really as its not similar at all. Most teams nowadays use the fullbacks as Pep and Arteta doing and most of the teams try to press, win the ball back, create spaces...etc. Not all are successful with the execution, but that's not exclusive to Pep's teams! Still, a great video nevertheless.

Kalasanac is only starting because of Tierney's injury.. Tierney will suit this system better as he is a fantastic deliver of the ball ...!! And a very very good defender

The Emery effect caused Ozil to be sluggish on defense but Arteta is not just helping Ozil, but us as the whole team with our pressure.
Mikel Arteta has been what the doctor would have ordered for Arsenal. The team now approach a match with greater purpose, resilience as in the match away to Chelsea and play as a single unit. Fitness will improve, something that had been on the wane over recent years and Emery's time in particular. The board and fans should back Arteta. In no small measure he is increasingly looking like the saviour of Arsenal Football Club.
Good analysis.... What's the name of the background music?
Given time, we would see Arsenal challenging again for the titles like we used too. Our team is quite young and we have seen some massive improvement with the players. I believe if we add a proper centre half and a box to box midfielder, we should finishing in the top 3 or top 4 next season. It's important too for the board to back him, give him the players he needs, and maybe in two years from now, we could be challenging for the PL, considering the players would be much more familiar with the style of play.
Arteta has made huge improvements since arriving. If given the money to spend he will be able to show his flexibility better. Arteta needs a hard working quality CM or two, or else an AM. He also needs a good CB for now and the mid-term future. If there is extra money to spend after that, then perhaps look at getting a young talented winger or CM for the long term future.
Good reviews. Arteta is still in learning process. As we can see, he try to adapt pep football philosophy into arsenal players. Since he have limited option, he just have to use whatever he have right now. Lots of area need to improve to play high press attacking football. More like all area from gk to striker. Arsenal might want to start finding a good goal keeper, charismatic central back, a pure winger, classic defensive mid, creative fullback, and fox like striker. Lots of attacking options is what pep have during his time at bayern compare to barca where their attack that time always start with same 3 man.

Arteta is doing very good so far, He needs a central defender and a midfield from either buying or from the squad he got, Arsenal have lots of defenders the problem is they are still young
I think, with the system presented here, We need a second person in the double pivot who is a much much better defender than either Xhaxa or Guendozi are. I have more faith that Kolasinac can learn to be a top tier defender than I do with Xhaka and Guendozi is very young. The role has huge defensive responsibilities and its been shown time and again that Xhaka is just not all that good at it. Obviously we need another top notch full back as well. I'm pleased with the improvement our central defense has made but I'm still sure there are a lot better defenders out there.
so far, so good, but it's down to the directo's to support arteta financially.
He alternates between 3-2-4-1 and a 2-3-5 it seems, with the latter looking likely to be used against weaker teams. I think xhaka will eventually get his wish to leave in the summer, he seems really intent on doing so and we can do better as well. As for arteta, Imo he’ll do a stellar job and i can see him being here for a long while although it’s early days, his methods are just what a big club like arsenal needs - great analysis as well my g, appreciate the effort.
Great point about the 2-3-5 against weaker teams to commit even more men forwards. Not such a great result today but not the worst considering it was away at Palace and playing with 10 men. Cheers your continued support mate! 😁
3-2-4-1 reminds me of Guardiola'a attacking 3-2-3-2 formation. Quite interesting
If he can add another all action player in the midfield like Ndidi or Dacoure... The rest will be okay. That defense was struggling because of the disjointed midfield.

Yeah agreed Arsenal really need a great CDM to add competition to the squad. I've been surprised by how good Torreira and Xhaka have combined but I still think adding Ndidi would be incredible for the team.

But Ndidi is very unlikely as Leicester is currently in good form thus they won't let their key player go (at least this season). Zakaria on the other hand might be available...
I still think we need to improve our ball control in midfield without feeling pressured by the opponent. I mean controlling ball with confidence not with rush everytime.

The most logic lineup. Guendouzi can't play in the back 2 because he can't defend like Xhaka, Ceballos can't play behind the striker because he's too conservative. Aubameyang on the flank is a little waste, but Lacazette is too good in linking up to be dropped.

He got Ozil to press well. That's enough for me. Even with the loss, they looked a hell of a lot better than the win under Uni
Areas to improve... a defensive midfielder to cover torriera when injured... xhaka and guendouzi doesn’t work... maybe another striker too as we have 3 but not a guy who can lead the line on his own if required... another Giroud style player.... with Aubameyang and laca out of the next game I think he should try saka, martinelli and Pepe as the attack... possibly need another cb too especially if we sell Mustafi in the window... and let’s be real chambers is not really good enough and Saliba is too young to go straight into premiership games when he arrives...it will also be interesting to see how caballos features as I feel he would be the natural ozil replacement when he gets knackered around the 70 minute mark.... I’ve noticed we’ve been weaker when ozil is subbed off in the first few Arteta games... all good signs so far though
Good points. Another defensive midfielder is essential. The current centre backs aren't up to scratch - I think Nathan Ake could be a decent ball playing option here, and another striker - in the form of a target man - would add another dimension to Arsenal's game.

I see Arteta as a coach who can take Arsenal back to where they belong. A lot of support must be provided to him from the board.
Ozil may be energized but it has to be noted that he never, ever, not once, not ever, actually goes in for a tackle (or tries to win a ball in the air). Everyone knows this too, so opposing players are not too worried about him running at them, they know he'll pull up at the last second. And that leads to the main question, can you have a high press attack when one player right there in the middle of the pitch simply won't ever put a foot in. In the last match vs Palace he lost possession four times and took possession off of Palace zero times. I think its risky and one of the reasons we end up losing the battle in midfield.

Arteta needs one defender in January who can play CB & RB. One more injury in those positions and it’s panic stations.
Wenger, Unai and Arteta all are tactically smart coaches but the difference lied in wengers reluctance in changing with time, Unais lack of ruthlessness. Arteta seems to be Tactical, Sensible, Good Man Manger and ruthless at the same time.

Simple, when you do not have the ball, close down the opposition ASAP. When you have the ball, attack in numbers like Liverpool and Man City. Simple. As they did against Utd. Players without stamina required will be discarded.
It would look good if updated pictures of players are used the ones in #Adidas jerseys not #Puma
problem with copying Pep's style is that Arsenal"s squad is not anywhere close to Man city's squad. We don't have ederson, Ferandhino, De Bryne or sterling
