i saw someone say that maybe the lyric is "you're my chemical, hype boy" implying that they're a drug to newjeans, euphoric in the moment but in the end not good for them
i always thought a "chemical hype boy" was exactly what you said, a dopamine filled delusional expectation of a person. but to expand on that, i also think about the phenomenon where when you fall in love, the part of your brain behind logic and reasoning essentially shuts down, leaving you to the woes of your dopamine and the "chemicals". that's just where my mind went, though. i enjoyed this bite sized video! hope you do more ♡
My definition of chemical hype boy was "like when Gojo fans see him, that feeling they get", but "The romanticization of someone you've just met" is way cooler! I agree 100% with you
What... Why am I so early ?? CAUSE I-I-I-I KNOW WHAT YOU LIKE BOYYY~~~~~ Watching this, I just want to watch all the MVs again... Because I love this song so much TT
I’ve always understood it as a man/guy not only being your drug, your intoxication, but something that continues to inspire and invoke new emotions within you. Like social media algorithms playing on our chemicals, this guy does as well. Happy, sad, angry, in love, etc.
It makes sense because it is experience which most of us had at some point as teenagers falling in love with imaginary character or with someone who doesn't really have any feelings toward us.
I think people's relationship to substances also reflects the hype being greater than the actual relationship though, so I wouldn't say these interpretations are exclusionary. Rather, they emphasize each other. The boy is like a drug (lines like "they say I'm sensitive lately/Every day without you, baby" and "And we can go hi-i-i-i-i-igh" reinforce the drug imagery) and that makes leaves him unable to live up to the hype.
I always thought ‘chemical hype boy’ meant that the hype for said boy was sort of artificial like manufactured chemicals which doesn’t really align with the lyrics but it’s how i took it.
i stumbled across your channel last week and i've binge-watching your videos whenever i get some free time ever since and, oh boy... you have such fantastic insights about the topics you analyze. now i won't be able to stop thinking about the depths of hype boy lol i'd also like to ask if you're familiar with wjsn's music? idk, seeing how much you like ive's music (especially after your analysis about "heya", which wjsn member exy took part in writing) i think you'd really like their songs and lore!
I’ve been getting into WJSN! Unnatural is an insanely good song, I haven’t been able to stop listening to it 😭 some of my other favorites so far are Hola, Pantomime, and the Chocome subunit songs - I need to look more into their discography though!
@choujimi oooh pantomime is one of my all time favorites by them! have you checked their secret / i wish / dreams come true trilogy mvs? it's been years and i still find myself coming back to them, it was probably the first time i was 100% invested in theories/lore in kpop. so so good
This reminds me of an experiment I learned about in some of my classes. When men walked on a suspended bridge as opposed to a more secure bridge, they were more attracted to a woman who met them on the bridge: because they misattributed the arousal from adrenaline, mistakenly thinking they felt how they did because she was attractive. The brain is very complex, to the point it doesn't always understand its own function. Chemically, we're often behind the curve.
so what you're saying is hype boy is basically "the delulu is not the solulu" LOL??? i fear this song hits closer to home than i thought (if i got paid to be delulu about guys i'd be a millionaire)😭 like i always assumed it was about being hyped about a boy, and the hype chemicals (my girls dopamine and serotonin (is it serotonin?)) was what you're getting from that boy. but i never made the romanticization connection, i just took it as the "they like this boy". i even thought that there's a chance this song would tie into ETA as even thought the music videos are from NJ's perspectives, considering the lyrics of ETA, it goes "ava likes the (hype) boy, they start dating, the boy is a liarrr (ETA), she's better off without him (How Sweet)." LOLLLL edit: in my defense i did not watch the hype boy music video (a crime i know i only watched the choreography video (i never knew hype boy had 4 music videos besides that one) so...

Exactly, very well said 🥰
I used to think that chemical hype boy meant a boy the girls made in a lab like Frankenstein. 😂

no but seriously the way u analyse these questions are amazing
@@wonyounqism haha 😭 thank you!
“You hype them up so much that ‘they no longer exist’” Ohh, that was so good. You like the idea of them more than the actual person.
I was literally just listening to this song and wondering this exact thing. Lol
omg choujimi ur wrong, a chemical hype boy is just a hype boy thats chemical 🤭
wow that's so smart
@@twosunies ikr i am 🤓👆🏻‼️

chemical hype boy as in he’s a hype boy for the happy chemicals in their brains.. i thought that was obvious

Love your kpop mv & song analysis

I used to misheard the lyric “you’re my chemical hype boy” as “you’re mine, can we collide boy” which is dumb bcz hype boy is literally in the title
thankyou for the explanation!! i've always wondered abt this
We’re all just teenage girls navigating what is falling in love 🫶
I always thought that the lyric was "You're my chemical, hype boy", as in, I need you to live type of wayy? lol
Maybe New Jeans like supportive nerdy guys so they said, "chemical hype boy" 🤣🤣🤣
frick, i might have a hype boy
No way i got an ad for skz chk chk boom while watching this lol
ppl criticized hype boy for “drug use” why don’t i remember that lmao
I always thought 'my chemical hypeboy' is kinda inspired by the name of my fave band, my chemical romance lol
so what you're saying is hype boy is basically "the delulu is not the solulu" LOL??? i fear this song hits closer to home than i thought (if i got paid to be delulu about guys i'd be a millionaire)😭

I have a similar question I think you could answer: what is a heartshaker? I still have no idea what that means 😭
the way your heart beats so fast/ shakes when u see someone you like??? idk 🙉
I thought it was a reference to My Chemical Romance but that wouldn't make much sense for the context of the song
What if it is hype boy name chemical😂
