  • See the Elk Rut in Cataloochee Valley, Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Hear the Elk Bugle numerous times, see them defend their territory and haram, see the baby Elk, and watch a dangerous encounter with photographers and visitors!
You can expect to see beautiful scenery, wild flowers, wildlife, creeks, waterfalls, and much more. This is one of the most rustic drives you can take in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Beautiful. We are headed up this weekend. It’s supposed to be 32 when we arrive. 40 degrees cooler than our low here in South Georgia! I hope to hear some bugeling!

Absolutely no one should be surrounding elk in a group like that, especially a bull in the rut. Great way to get hurt. I don’t understand why people do this.

We agree, and don’t get it either ... so frustrating to see.

Hi Mike, thanks for watching. You asked about Rut season - It's normally between mid September through Mid-October. You can find details in our Elk Guide: blueridgemountainlife.com/elk-great-smoky-mountains-national-park/
Our videos are currently recorded using Canon M50 Cameras, with a few different lenses. I often use a 300mm stabilizing zoom for Elk, so we can get up close, but stay a safe distance away. You can find a link to all of our gear in the descriptions of our videos.

Where is the viewing area that you filmed this from? I'm coming down from Michigan in October and would like to photograph the Elk from here if you don't mind sharing. The video is awesome, you did a great job filming and adding the music
