I don't know if anyone in the comments mentioned this... But after the racist backlash at the BBMAs, they changed the voting rules. I think they were trying to block votes from Asia going forward. But they changed the rules so that votes would only be accepted if they came via certain platforms, like Facebook or Twitter. Of course, this didn't work. In 2018, despite them discounting/tossing several million votes, BTS won again. That's when US award shows created a separate Kpop category. Again, trying to make sure that 'major' awards were reserved for western artists. It's disgusting.

and now they removed that award when bts tied 6 wins with justin bieber like…what’s more obvious than this?

25:42 Jin being a savage, walking and showing off the paper awards for all to see. As other k pop fandoms where making fun of it, saying it is just a paper awards. But BTS was the first Asian group to win it, and put a foot through the door.

Yes, their attitude, their image is powerful, as if to say, I'm not nervous, we're at the BBmas, it's just another presentation outside of my country, it makes me feel very proud of them.💜💜💜

I've been into bts for like almost 8 years now and still I'm sick of the tag kpop that's attached to them, it's not bc i don't like them to be labelled as kpop but the fact the outsiders treat them as manufactured idols instead of real musicians bc of that kpop tag. From day 1 of knowing Bangtan, i always stood by the statement, BTS is not k-pop, it's more than what kpop is.

And thats how the phrase "I PURPLE YOU" was created by Tae. 💜
    Bora(Purple in Korean)+Saranghae(I love you)= Borahae (I purple you)

BTS has suffered from labeling by Western media since the beginning. Radio stations won’t play their music because it’s not in English, yet they had no problem playing Despacito. They constantly call them a boy band so those who disliked previous boy bands such as *NSYNC or Backstreet Boys won’t listen to BTS knowing nothing about their music. K-Pop is associated with manufactured music, which is untrue since BTS write and produce their music. I think it all comes down to racism and greed. The Western music industry can’t make money off of BTS, so they demean them. It’s sad. Fortunately, Army is strong!

When was the last time a black, white, or other ethnicity or race won an award in Korea? It goes both ways. So to suggest that it is ALL racism, is absurd. Is there racism, sure, everywhere you go in the world there would be a little racism, but not to that extent. I can say the same thing about a lot of award shows in other countries as well. It's not western exclusive.

Thank you Nick! My thought exactly. Heck, there are plenty of “Asians” not included or awarded at the MNet ASIAN Music Awards… much less non-Asian artists. I’ve never read a comment complaining about this or accusing everyone involved as racist.
I hate the term “racism” because it gets thrown around so easily. The fact of the matter is… there are a lot of other explanations to words, actions and deeds that are not necessarily driven by racism. Most things are said and done based on “stereotypes” and natural biases - it’s human nature. But the term “racism” I see it most applied to Americans and white Americans in general and that’s what annoys me because ALL culture is guilty of stereotypes and despite how accommodating America is to cultures around the world- white Americans are usually the punching bag to comments about racism.

27:30 The American celebrities taught that BTS was going to the after party for the awards show so they could meet and take pictures. Their shock when the boys went straight to the hotel after. They came on Vlive with army to celebrate with us.. BTS and army tradition..

Because of the label "KPOP" I didn't like BTS at first because I'm not into KPOP music, but when I try to look and try to understand why BTS is this big, I become an ARMY because now I understand that BTS and KPOP are different. They should stop labeling BTS as a KPOP group because that makes people like me who is not into KPOP don't wanna see BTS despite of the messages BTS has put to the world and I believe there are many people like me who are blind to acknowledge BTS because of that label. I'm asshamed because I only know them for almost 2 years now, I should have known them long ago, and I proud that I love BTS more than many artists that I like before.
(Still I don't like the label KPOP in BTS, but I still respect the culture in it and all the KPOP groups)

Me too; I didn't understand the concept on racism at first cause I lived in Nigeria and there wasn't something like that in my country. There is some diversion in ethnics as there's over 300 plus ethnic group but there was only some stereotypes, but it wasn't an engrained stereotype and only the older generation had from experience and nothing more so I didn't understand or knew there was something like rascism until I started watching western content and researching.
It's a really intresting topic to me though I don't think anyone as been racist to me and it not something most people would like to experience but I actually want to experience it in order to know, what would I do, how would i act, what is the order person's side of view and why they are like that

West thinks that “Asia” only includes only East-Asian Countries.
I am often afraid that some Westerners might actually explode if someone told them some part of Russia also comes under Asia lmao
