My parents just gave me a Benchmade CLA as a college graduation gift (today, like 2 hours ago)! It was completely unexpected, I said they didn't have to get me anything. It's perfect, exactly what I was looking for (I've been looking to get a Benchmade for about a month now and have been doing a bunch of research as my birthday is coming up in a couple months). The two big things I wanted for my Benchmade is a G-10 handle (as opposed to the aluminum) and I wanted a deep carry pocket clip. The surprising thing is I have been at college this entire time and haven't said anything about it to my parents!!! My Dad just happened to figure out perfectly what I would want! I love the knife and I can carry it in my state (as I have a concealed carry permit). Oh man, am I excited!
5 years later how's it holding up
mine is 8 yrs old and it's perfect. coating will wear but it's no big deal. no play in any direction.👍👍
I've never been a huge auto knives fan, but this one is gorgeous, and of course it bears the high quality that benchmade offers. Great option for those whos jurisdiction allows it.

A basket full of TLBS knife review videos. the day is starting out great.
I bought the satin CLA as my second benchmade (lost my first one, felt nude without it). Ive had it for a couple years now. I love everything about it. The only issue i ever have is i accidentally lock the blade closed in my pocket. Not good for fast deployment, but i’ve learned to check for it.

I can't believe I'm going to say this but I will be locking my PM2 away for semi retirement, and will now be carrying this as my primary EDC.

The looks of this blade is just perfect! Love the profile, the all black, it's just really a clean looking knife.
I like the size too plus its an auto...cool. Another knife that not only looks good but has great form & function.
That thing looks absolutely sick. I've never owned a Benchmade, or anything in that price range really, too rich for my blood. That CLA just might have changed my mind though. I would love to own that thing someday.

Any more thoughts about how this compares to the Launch? Love the classic Benchmade lines on this one, but the dynamic looks of Launch has been calling me.
Love my BM auto , 20years , nothing ever wrong with it, still razor sharp.
I do enjoy the design of this knife. Has a fixed blade woods knife over all shape, which I'm very fond of.

I've only got one benchmade, a griptilian, and I really wasn't very pleased with it but damn that's a sexy knife. Definitely one to keep on my radar
Benchmade makes some great knives, but the pricing is a bit restrictive for my budget. That being said, I generally don't go for automatic knives.
I think I'm sold on this one. Would be my first Benchmade after owning pretty much nothing but CRKT folders.

Good review. I wonder if there is any real difference between the coated and non-coated blade for cutting paper, cardboard, and wood. I doubt there would be any difference in self defense use, admittedly. Also, I wonder how this knife compares to the slightly larger BM2750 with its D2 (60-62 HRC) steel. Looks like a very sharp, well centered blade, with a good locking switch.
Still, like the reviewer here, I too would be very curious to know if the lock is dependable under the stress of making contact with a hard object. I had a blade fail once at a bad time, and the knife is useless. I would be most curious to see any tests on that. Again, excellent review.

Have been EDCing this knife for a while now. My only complaint is that the handle is a bit slick. I also have a bit of vertical blade play.. but that doesn't really bother me.
Very cool knife. I usually prefer a good manual action over an auto, but autos sure are a lot of fun.
Man that thing opens FAST. How much better is this than a kershaw launch? I don’t know if I could justify $150 more

You touched on a problem I have with many Benchmades. It hasn't stopped me from buying them, I probably have 40 or more, but someone there in Oregon needs to figure out the proper way to treat G-10. It doesn't need to be as aggressive as Cold Steel's, but some texture would be appreciated. The Para is a fine example of a proper G-10 handle. Anyway, you're right, it's a good lookin' auto.

Hey loved your two reviews of the apb and cla and was curious why you preferred the cla. I thought the apb beasted the tests and was more impressed by that than the lighter weight and g10 on the cla(also did very well on the tests). I am sure I am missing some crucial in hand information as I haven't handled them but was hoping you could let me know what pushed your preference in that direction :)
Where can the cla with satin finish on the blade be perched?

very handsome knife, wish autos were legal to carry where i am. full flow through construction is a big plus.
what do you use to sharpen that knife to better than factory edge... so many options, just curious what you use.

This looks like a nice knife, but is there any reason to carry an auto as an EDC? I mean, they are cool, but doesn't the auto mechanism make them have a weaker lock-up? I'm more concerned with how well it will hold up to day to day work than how quick it flips out.
Man, you guys make it hard for me to decide. Every time I watch your videos I just add more knives to my wishlist. Im finally trying to get up to a benchmade for an edc. Needs to be good enough for defense as well as general use. Do you think the Griptilian handles the wood-shaving (or that type of grip and force) better?
Would a lightweight knife like that handle incredible stress on the point?

I like this one best of the four. I think that hump could disappear easy enough.
How would you characterize the grip texture of the scales? It doesn't look like it would be rough, but is it tacky, slick, or otherwise? What about with wet hands?
Does this knife have full liners? I can't tell they blend so well with the scales.
Like the looks, but not a big fan of 154cm steel. The Griptilian I got from Benchmade did not hols an edge well (154cm). Had them swap to an S30v steel blade, which is a phenomenal steel from Benchmade. Would also be more desirable in an FFG configuration.

That does look like a great knife and I wiould get it, but unfortunately where i live (New England area) auto knives like this one here are illegal. Though, i do hear benchmade does make some quality blades, so maybe I will give them a glimpse.

OK this is silly I know but dude just for fun ya gotta buy this knife from Walmart...... It cost a whole $3.84 cents the Ozark Trail Camouflage Cuchilla 4 inch handle 2.75 inch blade. I have never bought such a great bugout throw in your dash board junkdrawer beater knife, NO JOKE I've been hacking on wood making feather sticks notches all week long and the titanium coating is perfect and still sharp. Best 3 bucks I've ever spent hands down.....I know your probably a very busy dude but if your ever at a Walmart swing by their knife section and grab these blades it would be interesting to see what you think. OH yeah also the blade has zero wiggle no play at all and is centered perfect the star bolts are all crisp and clean ;) Anyways great review blade bro that thing is slick looking.

Is it a very snappy auto that’s what I like in autos the snap when opening them
in the paper test you can see where the hotspot in the edge grind is, that's easy enough to take care of. then the spine hump issue, and making excuses for the clip? to each their own i guess.

Wow! A really cool automatic knife. Way out of my price range, but most Benchmades are. I do have the Boker Auto Kaishnikov but this one looks like it blows it away. Enjoyed the Knife Blitz!

Had issues with the pocket clip on another one of my benchmade knives, must have fallen out of my pocket out of the house, guess I’m buying another one, maybe this one, probably my all time low this month

my cla does not have the fastest opening, doesnt really have that snap like a boker kalashnikov for example....is there a way to adjust this for faster deploy??? anyone????

The lines on this knife, I saw it first on the Best of 2015 video you did, and I went out that DAY to check the store for one. The lines on it and feel were just too good, but weirdly I just wish it weren't an auto. Crap laws here, can't legally carry an auto every day, still I had to have it.

IMO the AFO 2 and the mini reflex are the best autos that Benchmade makes. The AFO is much gripier than the CLA. The CLA is more comfortable but I found it too slick for self defense. EDC it would be ok but I would be concerned if I had too use it to defend my life. The AFO is heavier if weight is an issue.
