"If I couldn't handle not being good at something, then how could I consider myself a successful person ? " This young man inspired me to do better..

I wish there were more ‘positive’ stories involving kids in the news. Thank you Sunday Morning for making the sun shine brighter today.

Gerald has a great attitude. There's not many young teenagers his age that has the maturity that he has. He could have joined teams he was naturally good at, like football or basketball, where he could've gained instant popularity, but instead he chose the swim team when he did not even know how to swim. That's really admirable. Thanks Steve for another great, inspiring story!

He’s spot on. I almost failed the 500yd swim at the AF academy. I had never failed at any physical activity and it humbled me. I spent the next four years swimming after hours not for competition but to be better at a skill that I needed work on. Those skills made a difference in water polo something I never did before.

Gerald, I’m thinking you should follow in the footsteps of Navy diver Carl Brashear (Men of Honor), whom influenced my decision to attempt Naval Diving and Salvage School. They have retired the helmet since, although I was in second to last class to still be able to dive the Mk V (helmet). My decision was tempered by the movie Jaws, which I saw the summer before joining the Navy! I’m not a recruiter, I promise you. Best and hardest thing I ever did! Peace out, whatever you do!
