Now I understand why Bob Dylan mentioned her as one of his favorite singers despite his illiteracy in Arabic. I seriously adore her words and her voice. I'm not completely unfamiliar with Arabic music but this was totally on another level.
This sounds very close to traditional Japanese songs with the breaks and that strumming sound in between. Also the way she sing like she is telling a story through a poem
كنت مراهقا في الثانوية انداك 19 نوفمبر 1967 و قد كنت اتابع الحفل على المباشر بواسطة جهاز الراديو.مدخول الحفل خصص لمجهود الحرب حرب ال6 ايام1967 مبلغ الحفل في تلك الليلة قدر ب19000000 فرنك. اه اين انت يا يا زمن القومية العربية؟؟؟
Passionate poetry in the Arabic language...Now I'm convinced no English poetry can match such words I'm hearing now - so full and brimming with feeling. It reaches out and goes straight to the heart.
What a wonderful poem.... and a marvelous singer ! Honestly, I've never thought that arabic language could be so beautiful, so soulful... Oum Kalthoum makes me dream.... She was unique
I must tell u that this translation os quite average but again i can't think for appropriate English words to interprete the majestic Arabic poem The Arabic language / classical Arabic didn't change for the last 15 centuries it was preserved by the Holy Quran Whereas the Arabic has over 12 millions words the English has only 400 thousands We have more than 20 synonyms for the word love based on level of intensity A horse has 200 names according to his shape age color attitude n offcourse purity The Arabic language us a phonetic language meaning hard letters to pronouce are used for power like Assad / lion and other sounds are for fear n betrayal like khzy/ shame khaouf/ fear The Arabic language is a root related language so u'll find words like peace /Salam , surrender/ tassleem and the word "Islam" /which means surrendering to God willingly are related by the same root. A strong woman no matter the time that passed by she used to stand straight hours performing diving in an ocean of poetry living her song thrilled by the magic impact her public felt through her song A monument! For ever Oum-Kalthsoum
How does one manage to judge OUM'S best? By her voice, her words, her what? To me they are all BESTS. Greatest she is and ever will. No argument on this that
My dear Mom who was Egyptian used to play all of her records. Apparently, Umm Kulthum, used to drink to be able to sing for hours...The best! There has never been another one like her. The Saudis, destroyed her house off the Nile in Cairo and built a bank in its place! What an insult!
@yannick9473 That’s right she wasn’t drinking or smoking, she lived a healthy life that’s what gave her the ability to sing after the age of 70 without any problems. By the way her name is Umm-Kulthum, Fatima is her mother’s name not hers. That’s incorrect information
İhtişamlı bir ses ve görkemli bir sahneleme. Ümmü Gülsüm'ün her konseri seyircileri mest ederek geçen 3-4 saatti. O konuşunca herkes susardı. Şimdiki kaç sanatçı bu kudrete ve saygınlığa sahip bilmiyorum. i love Oum Kalthoum!! i've been listening to her since i was a young girl ... even though i did not understand anything. i've been looking for dvds of her live performance (if any) online. so far ... no success.

She is a one of a kind, a truly once in a lifetime legend of the Arabic Music World that was able to transcend all political borders and unite the whole of the Middle East when she sang ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
@sniper74319 pretty understandable, this is a particularly classical song very dependant on language & structure (Omar al Khayyam) with music providing only a background supporting role, almost an opera. If you don't understand the language, you'll miss 90% of that song.
Mettez nous la suite la chanson complète s’il vous plaît au lieu de nous la couper en petit bout les chansons de oum kalssoum il faut les écouter en entier comme ça on est satisfait
And the thing is strange and stunning She sang this song and she has 66 years Could old woman should make this effort so all songs is layer voice and high did Larry unprecedented They sang most of her songs in her sixties and her nickname planet east and honored Egypt before the Arab world and the world Umm Kulthum is the best in the world (Egypt) regained its land Egypt is the mother of life and they wished that occupies from France and England there is a lot yet, but that's enough for you
+Haim Levy I would say the translation it's pretty close...It's just that for some people it will never be right just because it's the Great Um kaltum :-)....Have a great day! .
somewhat close, but doesnt manage to convey well the full meaning of the original words, but hey, this subtitle is better than nothing lol. and nothing is unfortunately what the vast majority of classic arabic songs have in regards to an english translation >_>
The translation is correct but the Arabic language is a very expressive and complicated language which gives poets so much to work with to come up with such eloquent words that travel into your soul, this is why the translation does not make sense to some as English is quite limited in comparison with Arabic which has more than 2000 terms for camel. This shows the amount of complexity within a language making it immensely difficult to translate properly.
Now I understand why Bob Dylan mentioned her as one of his favorite singers despite his illiteracy in Arabic. I seriously adore her words and her voice. I'm not completely unfamiliar with Arabic music but this was totally on another level.

This is only 1/5 of the poem, the full song is more than an hour and it keeps getting better to the last sentence

The Arabic language / classical Arabic didn't change for the last 15 centuries it was preserved by the Holy Quran
Whereas the Arabic has over 12 millions words the English has only 400 thousands
We have more than 20 synonyms for the word love based on level of intensity
A horse has 200 names according to his shape age color attitude n offcourse purity
The Arabic language us a phonetic language meaning hard letters to pronouce are used for power like Assad / lion and other sounds are for fear n betrayal like khzy/ shame khaouf/ fear
The Arabic language is a root related language so u'll find words like peace /Salam , surrender/ tassleem and the word "Islam" /which means surrendering to God willingly are related by the same root.

Robert Smith listens to this song for inspiration when he finds himself starting to write a happy song :)
Is that true? Do you have any source for this? Cheers :)

the only voyce
with its special and unic tone
no one can replaced her
only om kulthoom
Kalau dengar lagu Arab ingat semasa dulu kerja diarab sediiih
This is one of her greatest songs, I think it is topped only by Enta Omri.
For me Holm or Hilm is my favorite.
Sahran liwahdi. Or entire riad sonbati arrangement
Wow this beautiful
Why wasn't EMI, while it still existed, remastering her entire catalogue and marketing it toward the opera audience?! Peace.
very beautiful
All that is such a great.
