And when I try to speak English I speak the 3 languages at the same time sometimes, and it becomes a total mess!!😭😭 On top of that is even more difficult when I'm writing. For example when I write in Bulgarian I write in türkish or English by accident.😅😭😭

If we’re being completely honest Mark rlly be speaking English 95% of time💀he tries rlly hard to speak korean especially in front of the cameras for shows and etc. But when it’s his own little live streams his English habits come out😂but I always praise him for trying hard but korean isn’t easy and I understand him just naturally speaking English. I mean Johnny does the same thing but he does not care and will speak in full English then maybe try and translate into korean later😂but it’s cute that mark tries so hard to just speak korean all the time.

He was born and raised in Toronto (Canada)

Mark was born in toronto and raised there until he was 7. Then he moved to nyc and stayed there until he was 12 and moved back to vancouver and lived there until he was about 15. He joined sm in 2012 when he passed an audition held in vancouver.
I adopted this info from namuwiki btw. Though i am kinda confused as it wrote there that he was introduced as smrookies in 2013 and yet he lived in vancouver during that time? He lived in vancouver until he was 15 which means that it was 2014

honestly, i feel for him.
im Chinese (as in, my parents are Chinese, and literally all my relatives) but i was born and raised in Europe.
so, in turn, my English is HELLA better than my Chinese, even tho ppl expect the opposite.
also the fact that English and Chinese (and any language that developed from Chinese, Korean included) are SO different doesnt help either
rly, its a matter of environment, the longer u stay somewhere and see the language being used in everyday life, u slowly get more fluent. However, English is always gonna be Mark's first (or at least, first-accustomed-to) language, and thats why hes the most fluent in it.
But lets be honest, the fact that hes bilingual anyway is pretty impressive, and its pretty nice for international fans to communicate with him (u saw how Johnny and him were on Buzzfeed and co.)

Yeah, I agree, as a Chinese staying in Canada ever since I was three, it really impacted me. My English is way better than my Chinese, although I do know how to speak Chinese pretty well, I have no idea how to read or write it, as you said, it really depends on the environment

And that’s mostly bc his mind mostly thinks in English he admitted like two months ago that his Korean is getting worse. But he can still speak it he just struggles a lot.

As someone who is bilingual but struggles with my second language, this is super relatable. It's that feeling of not being able to get your point across in the way you want unlike your native language, the words coming up easily in your head in your native language but you keep snapping your fingers trying to pull the same word but in that second language out of your ass, people not being considerate and just laughing or talking over you when they see you legit struggling. .. it's a mess lol.
Not to mention, the utter frustration of your listening skills being better than your speaking skills lmao.

Yes, his ethnicity is Korean because his parents are both Korean but his parents moved to Canada and gave him a born there. So technically, Mark's nationality is Canadian, he's a Canada's citizen since he was born in Toronto. (btw he even has korean name , Lee Minhyung. that's enough to know that he's korean, isn't it? lol)

I'm a 7 yrs *EXO-L* ended up stunning *MARK* when he and xiumin collab on SM Station. This boy is such a cutie but full of talents. He really captured my attention after that. I'm not into rapper since I'm a *DANDANIES* (d.o fan name) as u Know my man *D.O* is a great singer 100%. But after I looked up to MARK I got really stunned of how capable this kid is. I feel proud of him, and all idols who do not speak Korean as a first language. They definitely work extra hard to nail their pronunciation for their air. I salute you all. And it gives me hope that its an universal truth that we all have that amazing 'What the actual F@#$ is going on here' while studying foreign languages.
