I have lived and worked in 8 countries and now in China. I made a near full recovery from a stroke, caused by a hole in my heart, which western doctors hadn't detected in 50+ years and had the hole plugged so these days I feel great thanks to the proficient, polite and hard working medical staff in Shanghai.

This is how the Chinese deal with the huge population problem, self-help is high for everyone, but for overall, it's the most efficient! Doctors can handle large numbers of patients quickly. This is a system that really reduces healthcare costs, thanks for your video, I learned a lot of new things

Doctors working in public hospitals of China deserve large respects, as pay is not as high as western world. On the other hand, they grow professional skills much faster, compared with the typical career path of a doctor in the Western world, who tend to see less patients due to the relatively smaller appointment numbers. In a word, I always respect them.

Sri Lanka was not able to repay the debt on the construction of its port. So the obligation of the debt was converted into a 99 year lease on the port. China would run and profit from the port for 99 year, and at the end of the lease, the port would return to Sri Lanka. This is exactly the same type of deal the U.S. made with Panama when it built the Panama Canal. Panama was unable to repay its debt, so a 99 year lease was set up to repay for construction of the canal. After running and profiting from the canal, it was return to Panama at the end of the 99 year lease.

It is really impressive that your wife, who does not read or speak Chinese, can handle all these complicated procedures (for me at least) in hospital in China. Sometimes I do not know where to go or what to do when I am in a hospital. You got to 挂号 register, waiting at the right zone, look at the screen closely, then see the doctor, different tests, pay, pick up medicin.... Seeing doctor is the least thing I would do.

The volunteers who guide people in those hospitals are all nearby college students, not doctors or nurses. They are all for the credits of social practice classes. When I was studying in China, almost all my Chinese friends had similar activities. Some go to the mountains to plant trees, some go to help in nursing homes, and some volunteer in hospitals. It seems that they must get credits for social practice courses in order to graduate. I think this method is very good. Students get credits and hospitals get volunteers.

if many expatriates living in china is as adventurous as as independent as you and your families it would make living in china a lot easier and pleasant, I have so many expatriates friends from all over the world didn't at all make an effort to get to know the local or the cultures in china and most of them would just hang out with expatriate and complain about everything in china. when growing up in Sydney Australia as a child many white Australian would make comments about how many immigrants who came into Australia stick to themselves and would not make an effort and its strange I see a lot of similarities to some expatriates here, I have a Australian friend here in Shanghai who have been living here for almost 12 years and hardly speak any mandarin and would constantly complain about how difficult it is to live here in china and I often wonder why is he here after all these years ha ha ha, I have lived and work in almost 20 countries and I have to say china and chinese people are the most accommodating and friendliest people I have met , in any countries if you are kind and show respect for the locals and they would definitely do the same in return, so many expatriates that I have met are so bossy, negative and rude and expect every chinese people to accommodate them and treat them like VIP, don't forget that we are in a foreign countries and if we have decide to make it work, we have to also make it work for others, I loved china and chinese people, they are straight forward but they are also accommodating and kind if you open up to them and give them time to get to know us. to some of my expatriate here in china, stop complaining and make it work and make an effort to hang out with the locals and get to know them and have some respect at least learn some basic chinese and respect their cultures and tradition. I really enjoy watching our dear Indian families cause they are so polite and accommodating and respectful to the chinese people, I wished your stay in china a happy and most memorable one.

@@jzvr5842 Well Guilin is a tier 4 city with tourism as its main attraction with the famous Yangzhou nearby. One bowl of Guilin Rice noodle (mifen) is only RMB 4.00.

my god I'm Chinese and I literally live right next to this hospital!! It's a very famous children's hospital in Shanghai, co-worked with the famous top Chinese university Fudan University. I always walk by there and always go to this hospital for health problems from a very young age. We have a subway and bus station right next to the hospital so it's very convenient for people to go there. My school used to be close to it as well, and every day on my way back home I can see people from all around the country taking their kids to this hospital and they usually get good care cause there are also many restaurants close to the hospital. Everything is super convenient. Thank you for showing people real Shanghai!!

1 it's a huge difference comparing to 10 years ago. These technologies and devices significantly improve efficiencies. Much less hassles for patients. 2 there are still room to improve. For example, in queuing area, make sure people can sit there waiting for their turn. After test, the test result can also directly appear in doctors computer (after swipe card) . Make an area (like a cafeteria or something) comfortable for patients when they need to wait long. This helps reduce crowd in around rooms. 3 amazed by the low cost.

Yes it's always a lot of work to control crowds. A big waiting area would be good.

In fact, China has many such advanced public hospitals. Not just Shanghai, all cities have them, and the facilities are the same.

From my experience I know the test result can be seen on doctor‘s computor maybe the printed one is for patient awaerness. All the hospital's computors are connected, he also need to wait the same time to get the result.

    • @adamg2473

Yes, the test results can appear in doctors computer and no need swiping card. There is a current patient list in his computer. And the results can be checked in the patient‘s WeChat App which has more functions such as 'makeing an appointment'. This kind of system was set up not only in Shanghai hospitals but also in all the hospitals of China.

There are several children's hospital in Shanghai, the one we used to take our child to locates in Pudong New District, somehow bigger than this one. Tier 1 cities have the best hospitals and doctors, really hope small cities can access to advanced healthcare too.
Children with weak health turn out healthy when they grow up, respect all hard-working parents.

Sadly the best cities got all best services, that can be never changed, but China has the high speed railway can help a bit, if you want better, just come and get it.
