A deep belief in an absurd myth with zero proof is not a rational or intelligent position.
All because of the fear of death.
Yet people vote for those who will affect the lives of others, based on that belief.

That's why I don't talk about religion with politics as it is a conflict of almost everyone. For me, history is a good place to back up on facts. We all know what happen in Europe when the Roman Catholic church mix in with each nations government. Another thing coming out of Europe is the secular denomination of Christianity and so there are no 1 way or correct way to obliged to. There are many paths in Christianity but there is only one way to Heaven (base on Christianity alone). Same can be said about Islam and Buddhism. 2 paths (sunni and shiite) on Islam and I think there are 4 paths in Buddhism.
However, all religions have a common theme. Love, Compassion, acceptance and help the weak/unfortunate. These I don't see in Trump's Maga supposedly Christian value.

I forget who was the source of the quote, but there's a saying that religion is true to the common man, false to the wise, and useful to the rulers. The GOP states with the most draconian abortion bans also have the least amount of social safety nets, less worker’s rights, pay less to help families, women & children and have the worst maternal mortality rates. @@JaneFleesTexas yeah im at a point now in my life where I don’t really trust either side anymore. It seems to me that the folks at the top are really more about self enrichment and gaining more wealth power and control over the citizenry than they are in doing what they are actually there to do. Both sides of the aisle it seems to me are constantly feeding into the divisive narrative that one side is the enemy of the other and they use controversial issues to do it framing the issues in a way that maximizes the division and minimizes the commonality. Many of those most controversial issues it seems to me have pretty clear solutions that pretty much everyone I think could get on board with. For instance with abortion we don’t need to look at it as pro life or pro choice we can be both. The solution is simply to encourage behaviors which minimize the need or desire for abortions by providing greater access to contraceptives southward cheaper and easier to find and use and to provide more comprehensive sexual education. The way I see it those two things would probably eliminate the vast majority of unwanted pregnancies and there are many other co-issues that would contribute to better outcomes in all situations. The way I see itwiththatparticularissue the two best options by far are to not get pregnant if you don’t want to be or to have a baby you want so anything that will promote those two outcomes over abortion would be far better and probably totally agreeable to the vast majority of people on both sides of the issue. The challenge is that organizations on the prolife side are often against those very things even though most people would agree with that stance I believe. And then pro choice and pro life folks demonize each other for not caring about the issue from their point of view and everyone stays at each others throats because that’s what the organizations and leaders on both sides seem to want. I think it’s like that with probably every major issue if I had to guess. Most people want the same sorts of things they just don’t realize everyone else does and since the debates are framed around the differences rather than the commonalities solutions become two sided instead of being a unified common solution.

For Christian fundamentalists, being taught to suppress critical thinking begins at a very early age. It is the combination of the brain’s vulnerability to believing unsupported facts and aggressive indoctrination that create the perfect storm for gullibility. Due to the brain’s neuroplasticity, or ability to be sculpted by lived experiences, evangelicals literally become hardwired to believe far-fetched statements.
This wiring begins when they are first taught to accept Biblical stories not as metaphors for living life practically and purposefully, but as objective truth. Mystical explanations for natural events train young minds to not demand evidence for beliefs. As a result, the neural pathways that promote healthy skepticism and rational thought are not properly developed. This inevitably leads to a greater susceptibility to lying and gaslighting by manipulative politicians, and greater suggestibility in general.

My older brother died a couple of years ago. In his late years, he was a raving wingnut. It actually started much earlier, from being taught to shoot by a stepdad in KY during the summers he spent with our mom, to deciding he didn't like being equal to the Latino guys he worked with at a furniture store, to his ideas of women (also derived from Ky Methodist family and several no-class white trash stepfathers). He had continual employment issues with supervisors who were either non-white or female.
One interesting thing - he did 1st grade twice, due to problems with reading. Later on, in high school, he had pretty low grades and our dad noticed his take on current events topics was a bit odd. Dad picked a text out of a history book, told him to read it and then tell dad what it meant. What the text SAID and what my brother GOT as the meaning was WILDLY different. Dad was absolutely boggled that my brother couldn't read a simple history lesson and get the simple statement of WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED, without imposing his biased interpretation on top of it.
Intelligence is not the same as rationality... being 'reasonable'. Both our parents were smart people, our mom (while alcoholic) was very artistic and mostly a 'southern lady' type. She encouraged us to read, watch good stuff on tv like news and documentaries (the 1st televised open-heart surgery, f'r'instance) so brother had inherited good 'basic brights' but his ability to reason was seriously flawed by other influences.
We all learn 'personal filters' but some of us can't see AROUND THEM to the real facts. They don't WANT to - they prefer their 'alternative facts'.
AND my fave quote from Eric Hoffer's THE TRUE BELIEVER: "The TB is fact-proof."

This can all be broken down to a very simple axiom. In order to capture a large following, and keep them devoted to you, is to invent an imaginary enemy and tell people this enemy is a threat to them. Then position yourself as champion for their cause against this enemy. And it's tremendously effective. Everyone is using it, from preachers to talk show hosts. And it's a no lose proposition because when someone does object to that rhetoric, that merely puts a face on this imaginary enemy, someone this "leader" can point to and say, "there, that's the person I warned you about." It plays right into their hands. It's why these legal charges against Trump only bolster his support.

Actually it is derived from National Socialists. Hitler's party was officialy the NSDAP (NAtionalsoZIalistische deutsche arbeiterpartei). Which translates as the Nationalsocialist German Workersparty. The whole socialist thing was just windowdressing as the nazis saw actual socialists (let alone communists) as mortal enemies. There is no doubt however that the vast majorty of nazi's were in fact christian at least nominally. And the anti-semitism they espoused, was of course based on a long-standing christian tradition, so to speak.

This is excellent, and I will be checking out these books first chance I get. I also will follow this channel.
However, to put it mildly, I have a major gripe.
This current Christian Nationalist movement has been SEVERAL DECADES in the making. I finally saw it firsthand myself in the 90s when I was a Christian, and it made me step away from most of Christianity at least 10 years before I finally quit it completely.
Why are so many folks just now seeing it?! Why are they only now talking about it?!
Some of us have been too nice--commendable as the effort may have been--while others have been too antagonistic. Of the latter, so many were ignorant of Christianity, its nuances, and its current fragmented state, yet ridiculed all Christians as if they were all the same.
Foul, disgusting, and treasonous (yes, it is) as this Christian Nationalism is, from what I saw over the years, this strong push was INEVITABLE!
I was called paranoid by many people further left than I am now. They probably wouldn't remember those conversations, and in my age, I've forgotten what those people even looked like. This is one of many times in my life that I wish I'd been wrong.
    Rant over and documented.

So I want to get a few thoughts from any of you here (mostly for you fellow atheists).
And I wanna see if I’ve been unfair with assessing christians.
So you know how lately (or for the longest time) people who advertise themselves as people who follow the teachings of Christ, they have the worst qualities of a human being, exactly the opposite to what Jesus teaches…yet they still call themselves Christians.
I say you’re only a christian if you follow to the best of your ability that which you worship.
So in all fairness, why call yourself a christian if you’re no way near of what a Christian should be.
Example : if a vegan snacks on a drum stick, but 99% the time they eat vegetables, they’re just not a vegan.
One should call themselves a label if that is what do as a practice.
Like, I can’t call myself a martial artist if I don’t practice martial arts.
    Back to Christians-
If these people don’t follow the BARE MINIMUM BASICS of what qualifies as a Christian, yet they label themselves as that….are they really actual Christians?
    That is my question.

Is never heard anyone call themselves a Christian when I was a kid (and an atheist since 7 yo) and then I heard it popping up all over on the past 20 years and I kept thinking why are some people constantly calling themselves that like who cares? I don't go running around calling myself a Catholic (religion of my dad). Little did I know it was a declaration of a cult. The more they screamed about they're Christian and it was blatant in politics, the more I realized how ugly and awful they are. 🤷🏽‍♀️ I think when Obama was elected was when it really hit home. I was never a Christian, so just my take.

      Yes.
And I say this to theists all the time who profess that the bad ones 'aren't true christians': the implication is that 'true christians' cannot possibly be mean, unsympathetic, lack empathy, unkind, hypocritical etc - in other words, human. That's just nonsense - demonstrably so.
And I say all _that_ as a former christian of many years. It's not for nothing that in the bible the apostle paul (i think) writes to _christians_ warning them about the very attitudes you describe. The attitudes we see today. It's not a bug, it's a feature of feeling you're absolved of sins past present and future.

"Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between man and his God, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legislative powers of government reach actions only, and not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should 'make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof,' thus building a wall of separation between church and State."
    Thomas Jefferson

At 41, i left church. I now see how it harms us a society more than it helps us. Could Christianity be redeemed? Maybe parts of it and if the practicioners really changed their ways, but there's too much power, influence, money, and control to give up.
I sometimes think the US would need to fall economically, i mean really fall, before a better version of Christianity could arise. You would likely see the greedy and hateful people leave Christianity while the loving and caring believers would shine.

I’m an independent voter who has tended to vote Republican since the Reagan years. January 6 disgusted me. More than that, the Trump apologists in the House and Senate have turned me off to the party. Actually the extremes of both parties seem to be taking over, and I’m frustrated and disgusted with the politics of it all. I find it harder and harder to find politicians to vote for.

Because the people of our country aren't taught proper history about our own countries past experiences, we know even LESS about the history of all the other countries from around the world, and more importantly how people are made to live under an authoritarian regime which is led by a 1 man ONLY, Dictator, such as those living in Saudi Arabia, Russia, North Korea, China, etc...and along with US, there are quite a few other countries fighting to take the citizens living in their countries rights, freedoms, well their whole way of life under a democracy destroyed and strongly replaced with extreme totalitarian regimes all around the world which have these rules in every country living in one. FOR CERTAIN the wanna e dictatoe for our country, Trump has clearly said on DAY 1: HE will tear up the Constitution and rewrite it according to HIS rules! That wont be completed EVER...btw. It also means Congress will no longer be needed and neither will the SCOTUS bc he will make all the rules that he will not have to follow, AT ALL, EVER! But, we, his slaves, will including EVERY AMERICAN CITIZEN bc we will all FINALLY BE TREATED EQUAL...HE WILL OWN EVERYTHING AND EVERYONE INCL OUR PERSONAL GUNS, PROPERTY, KIDS, SPOUSES, EVERY BIT OF MONEY THAT THE RICH OLIGARCHS OWN, ALL CORPORATIONS, ALL CHURCHES ASSETS AND LEADERS! E V E R Y THING!! GUARANTEED!! American citizens will not be able to leave the country..Not even yhose with private jets and second homes outside the U.S. He will own our military and the militia people fighting for him to return to power esp those who hes been calling "Prisoners of war" bc of J6 WILL NOT BE REWATDED NOR NEEDED BC ONLY THE VERY BEST IN THE ACTIVE MILITARY WILL BE CHOSEN TO BE HIS PERSONAL SECURITY!! NOT anyone whose been caught and small militias are so far beneath him...HIS ONLY EQUALS OF SORT, WILL BE who he already brags are his bffs now, other Dictators!! He will do exactly what the Saudi prince recently did in his country...after destrpyong the constitution he will pull out of NATO, he will order HIS active military to round up Bezos, Musk, the Koch bros, Zuckerberg, etc... thats WHY he reduced taxes for the very richest Americans bc its extremely easy to round up a few billionaires holding all the wealth of our country, and whe the Prince of Saudi had those in that country get brought to the Ritz to sign over ALL THEIR MONEY, who btw were his own family members we the only ppl with any money, and they HAD TO DO IT OR GET SHOT IN THE HEAD RIGHT THERE!, Trump will probably have our richest in America brought to Mar a lago, i betcha, and FORCE THEM TO SIGN OVER ALL THEIR MONEY AND ASSETS! And he understands where and how some have their stash of money in other banks or laundered in other friendly countries with the means to retreive all that cash, too!! No doubt! Then he will dend out hos military to collect EVERY WEAPON FROM AMERICANS EVERYWHERE DOOR TO DOOR AND WITHOUT ANY SYMPATHY FOR ANY OF US! Dud anyone think ppl that live under Dictators in those countries can own anything ESPECIALLY ANY GUNS OF ANY SORT?? HA! You're foolish to believe that unless you are in the active military, guns wont be permitted to any regular American citizen...NONE of the ppl living in these countries can own ANYTHING, not homes, not stocks, not companies, not dignity, not churches, not personal weapons, not themselves we would ALL BE King Trumps property and FORGET PARDONING ANYONE ESP J6ers...YOU GOT CAUGHT, YOU'RE SUCKERS TO HIM, NOT HEROS !! REMEMBER? PLUS, he will say that you didnt even finish the job he ordered you to do, ANYWAYS!! YOU ARE THE VERY LAST PEOPLE HE WOULD EVER BEFRIEND OR GIVE A THOUGHT TOWARDS !! He cant stand the people who he has to ACT kind to who he refers to HIS BASE ALREADY... HE HATES AMERICA! HE HATES ALL AMERICANS !! The only ppl that wont be thrown into the lions den MIGHT BE Roger Stone, Michael Flynn, and Steve Bannon...and some of his Russian buds Putin had working for him inside the Oval Office and the White House! He recently said that "if he wins in 2024, that will be the last election!! He said that in an interview on national tv! Which gets satellite revieved in Russia and the likes...for now anyways...He wants to be the richest of all the dictators around the world! And then...putin will take it from hom or maybe he plans on giving US to Putin anyways...he is old and brand new at being a dictator of the most powerful country in the WORLD so...Putins smarter and much better at it BY FAR!!! THAT my fellow Americans, is what you are fighting FOR when you stand behind Trump and vote Republican today!! All Tepublicans even your state and local legislatures and Governors are All CORRUPT AND ANTI DEMOCRACY! People, the ONLY teason Americas been the leading country around the world and respected and followed by MANY countries people and their leaders IS BECAUSE WE INVENTED THE DEMOCRATIC GOVERNMENT FIRST!! ONCE we vote against keeping democracy as our system of govt, we WILL FALL and NEVER BE ABLE TO GO BACK TO BEING A DEMOCRACY EVER AGAIN! AMERICA HELPS THOSE COUNTRIES WHOSE LEADERS CHEAT THEM OUT OF THEIR DEMOCRACY...WHO WOULD HELP US???? NO ONE COULD!! DO YOU GET IT NOW?? THIS IS NOT A DRILL and we cant change out minds once democracy is voted out!! Ever!! What will we tell our children and grandchildren? That WE VOTED TO TAKE AWAY THEIR FREEDOM, THEIR RIGHTS, THEIR DEMOCRACY FOREVER!!
