During the Sing Off series, Pentatonix visited the Trevor Project for an anti-bullying campaign. Mitch mentioned being bullied for his high pitched voice, which made him different. Shame on them, and cheers for Mitch for being Mitch.

Mitch is an angel.... as is Kirstie... Scott is Mr Soul.... Avi is like liquid chocolate... Kevin is an alien.... Haha Kevin concentrating so much on his singing that he forgot to turn his sign around until just about the end !! Also, this was Scott's first publicly coming out video - he was no doubt really nervous, but he certainly hid it well.

This version of the song is 'the soap box'. 5 people from different backgrounds, different persuasions (sexual and religious and ethnic) and yet they come together to make that 'wall of sound' sound so perfect. Not one of them puts themselves over or in front of any of the others, musically or in their friendships. Amazing bunch of people with an amazing amount of talent. If 5 people can do it, why can't we all????

Mitch sounds like an absolute angel. A lot of people with high singing voices sound shrill to me for some reason, but not Mitch. It's just so clear and controlled.

You are so right about being accepting and respectful of other people regardless of how they may differ from you. After these past 4 years of decisiveness and the promotion of hate for anyone who is ‘other’, we really need messages like this. I wish it would be played on every news station, in full, and on as many other forms of media as possible on a regular basis. My high school history teacher frequently used the quote by Voltaire, ‘I may disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to death your right to say it’. It’s been more years than I care to tell you but I always remember this simple message.

I can't tell you how glad I am to have happened across your channel. It was one of the best random clicks ever. PTX's version of John Lennon's "Imagine" is one of the best things they've done. (It's tied with their versions of "Bohemian Rhapsody" and "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies".) I've studied & been involved in music for more than 40 years as a pianist, organist, vocal soloist and as part of many choirs. I know how much work goes into rehearsal and the insanely small tweaks to a piece that can make a mountain of difference. These five people (and, later, Matt) understand all of that and they're still so young! I'm frequently gobsmacked at the arrangements they come up with as well - so intricate, blended, polished... I became a fan way back when they were on "The Sing Off". and they just keep. Getting. Better. I'm glad you discovered PTX, and love that you get so much joy out of their work. I can't wait to check out the rest of your videos. :) (Sorry this was so long... but I figured you'd understand.)

You are absolutely right, we should not be surprised by anything that Pentatonix does. Except every time we are! I have been a PTX fan since their Sing-Off days. And I hope one of these days you will go back and watch the videos of them when they were performing on The Sing-Off, I think you will enjoy them very much. But the one thing about Pentatonix is they never cease to blow their fans out of the water. I can honestly say there are very few of their songs that I don’t absolutely love. Some I love more than others, but all of the songs are absolutely spectacular in terms of these young people and their talent. Their vocal abilities alone are amazing, but the way they structure and arrange songs is simply sublime. ❤️

Nice to have you back to PTX. Thanks for the reaction. One of the many things I love about Mitch is that he can sing in whichever register is needed for the songs. The register used in this one is different from what he used in "Amazing Grace" which is different than he used in "Bohemian Rhapsody", etc.

I'm happy you got this one to go up. I saw that you made several attempts. Yay! I love your reaction as soon as Avi started singing...eyes close, head goes back and it's just like heaven! The card they are holding describes them, and then when they pass to the next person, it describes what connects them with that person, and so on down the line. Mitch is part of the LGBTQ+ community, so is Scott. He flips his to Man and passes to Avi, Avi is a man, too, but flips it...he's also Jewish, flips to American and passes to Kevin. Kevin is also American, He flips it, he's also black, he flips the card again to Christian and passes to Kirstin, who is also Christian, but she turns the card to Latina, and finally to woman.

Mitch is a counter tenor. They can have a range from a mid/low tenor up to a soprano. And there is no falsetto, that’s his voice. Angelic describes it.

Mitch is a countertenor, a rare voice indeed.
You say "It's not hard to treat people with respect, and dignity, and love" -- but apparently it is impossibly hard for some. Even for some who claim to worship Him who said "Love your neighbor as yourself" and "As ye would that men should do to you, do ye also likewise unto them", and "Little children, love one another." And "Judge not, lest ye be judged."

Not at all disrespectful to say Mitch sounds like a girl. 😊 It's not just that he can sing high, it's that he can do it with such power and resonance, which is what sets him apart from a man doing a falsetto voice (they typically have to go into head voice to do that, which lessens its power.) As a counter-tenor, Mitch can go higher than the average man while still in chest voice or mixed voice, and that's what makes him so special. The first Pentatonix video I ever saw was their cover of 'Royals,' and when I first saw Mitch singing his solo part I was confused, and wondered if he was lip-syncing to Kirsty's vocals. (And when I realised it actually was him I was like "Daaaaammn! That guy's GOOD!")

Mitch is a counter (or contra) tenor, which is a male that has a vocal range equivalent to a contralto or mezzo soprano (like Kirstie). A specific type of counter tenor called a sopranist sings in a range equal to a female soprano. It isn't disrespectful that you noticed this, it shows how much you are paying attention! Mitch has a vocal range of 6 octaves and 1 note (A1-B7), last time I checked.

Mitch identifies either gender. So you literally can't go wrong. When I first heard ptx, it was suggested to listen to hallelujah. And I was completely hooked on the Disturbed version so I wasn't even that interested in listening to another version. But I got bored one night and I listened to it. And that was all it took. It's like the heavens opened up and this amazing group came down from above, and Angel voice has the most beautiful voice of all. Keeping in mind again I wasn't watching the video, but I was listening to it with headphones. When I first heard Mitch's part I thought it was a woman. So my little brain was blown when I actually saw the video. But he's a rare contratenor, or countertenor. Many people mistake that with a falsetto. Scott & Kevin & matt when he joins the group, they all use their falsetto to hit high notes. And you can usually tell by their expressions because they're straining. Now compare that with Mitch hitting the high notes. Effortlessly with not one ounce of strain. And that's because it's his natural voice. As part of his natural range and that means he can go into the soprano range. This is somebody you can hit Celine Dion notes. He can hit whistle notes. And I'm convinced he can hit a note that only dogs can hear. Personally I would love to hear him and PTX cover Boston's More than a Feeling. Hearing Mitch hit the high notes did Brad delp used to hit would be amazing.
Don't let people complaining about stopping your videos get to you. I don't know why they do so, there is not a reactor that hasn't had to explaine why they have to stop their videos. You can not listen to a reactor without being told this and they continue to do so. If I want to hear the original content I'll go to their channels, I come to yours to see and hear your reaction without you talking over the video. Just a heads-up, there are so many more diving boards you're going to be asked to jump off of, I can hardly wait. I'll leave you with a word PTX leaves us with every now and then, SOON.

I find that most intelligent people can respectfully debate / discuss differing opinions.... If it started with children learning to responsibly deal with conflict - we probably wouldn't be in the position we're in today. ... Just my opinion of course....

Respect and Safety are overall 90% of our Laws. We didn't Respect individual people and some were property and others were indentured servants with very little free will and kept poor. We are the human race and every One is EQUAL.
We need more people like you, getting on that soapbox in such an eloquent and calm way. You are absolutely correct about just being respectful. That includes being respectful to those that are disrespectful, those that are nasty and mean. They will never learn differently until they are treated differently. I very much dislike and disagree with this "cancel culture" that has overcome everything.

PTX has said that they pretty much always get along, and with all of their differences, which I think actually brings them closer together. You can tell how much they love each other. Must come from how they listen to each other. Which is probably the key. They actually listen, and go from there. Plus, they embrace each other's differences. And from what I've read of the group, all of them are truly nice and kind people.

In many of your videos, you've mentioned your love of a cappella singing. Might I suggest a piece of music for you to simply listen to; probably too long for you to react to it. This is "Miserere mei, Deus," written (probably) in the 1630s by Gregorio Allegri, and performed here by the mixed men and boy choir of New College, Oxford (England). A suggestion to help with the copyright strikes, check into putting a watermark/filter over the video image. It seems to help. Here is a link to an example. (BTW the song he is reacting to is a really good one to check out. Since it showcases their "mashup" abilities.)
