- Well, my son just likes to ruin the classics, doesn't he? sigh Watch Phil as he barely makes his way through the first of many Mega Man games with delayed controls, cheap exploits, health farming, and constant bitching!
As a side note, the reason why there wasn't many comments displayed on the video is because this was made during a time where there was very little to no haters or dislikes on his videos. I hope you enjoy it regardless.

The music code for Mega Man and Mega Man 2 doesn't reset upon startup, so when the Game Genie plays a tone when you enter/delete a letter, it changes the state of the sound chip in memory and this gets passed on to Mega Man because it doesn't consider to reset anything, since it doesn't need to.

I'll admit, when I beat this game for the first time I used the Elec Man Exploit as well.

In my opinion, I think that's fine, but if you're just using it because you don't want to try like a certain DipStickPhil, than it's unacceptable. There are a few times like yours, speed running, or Mega Man Legacy Collection Challenges to get a gold rank.
I never use it until game over, in other words, I do try to do this legit.
I have done it legit once - in the PSP old style version (glitchless original game though it has no slippery landing). I don't remember for the life of me the number of attempts it took because there is no pause exploit.
EDIT: To clarify, I mean game over after burning the 2+ lives because I can get there somewhat competently without dying.
Whenever I do bad at Mega Man, I just watch this to remind myself that I'm not *that* bad.

MM is the worst game for DSP. It is all about learning what is being thrown out and finding the simple way around it. Something jumps out and will shoot you, wait. The platform drops at breaks in the tracks, jump before. There is no over way around it but if DSP doesn't think of it on his first time seeing it he won't change his mind no mater how much he fails

DSP isn't entirely wrong with this choice because Bomb Man is a piss cake. A good chunk of them are good starters, I like to go Fire Man first because he's got my favorite weapon and is nothing when you realize he only shoots when you shoot

Alright, lemme admit that as a newb, I'm quite bad at playing Mega Man games (probably because I've started playing them around mid-May of 2014 and not during childhood last like the rest of you guys.) But after watching the various TIHYDP Mega Man videos (specifically this one and 5) and seeing Phil's pathetic playing, I had a revelation. I immediately saw a little of himself in me, and it hurt. Because I don't want to end up like Phil, I've decided to replay all of the classic and X games in an attempt at getting better at them (and not cheat at the games like Phil does). Just last night, I've beaten MM1 for my 4th time (2nd without the pause exploit) and only used 2 continues. Quite an improvement from using 8 continues during my playthrough from 3 weeks ago. I even managed to beat the Yellow Devil on my 1st try this time around. I wonder how DSP could turn out if he had the same mentality that I had; to aspire to be a better player and to work on improving/being honest about his shitty playing instead of blaming all games for his failures.

You know, it's nice thinking back to when I had to fight the yellow devil and getting my ass kicked by him and having to remember his pattern right down to the T. After a while, I finally got his pattern down and felt great I finally did it. And now I get to watch Phil use that nes glitch and totally cop out of this great boss fight and even get payed for doing that. Fucked up

Let's be honest, this isn't even such a bad playthrough compared to his other playthroughs. He was a lot more annoying playing other games. For example: Witcher 2. That one is quite possibly the worst playthough ever.
But what made this bad was the fact that he cheated his way through the end.
+David Burnell The Yellow Devil is absolutely worth cheesing through.
He's really not. Like every other megaman boss, you just have to learn the pattern. I had to redo that stage 5 times but i finally beat him and he is now one of my favorite bosses. Besides, he cheated on all the wily bosses, not just yellow devil.

Phil is really good at shooting fast from button mashing. I guess he's had practice from playing fighting games OH BURN!1!!11
Even pop fighting games usually take a lot of skill and button-mashing gets you nowhere, leaving you open if you use sub-optimal attacks. Don't worry, Phil has actually proven he is really shit at them.
This brings me to tears. Seeing how awful ANYONE can be at a Megaman game, even if it is Megaman 1, which was a little wacked out in terms of physics... I cannot bring myself to watch this whole thing...
I see what you mean by exploits with the elecman power. I don't get your gripe with health farming people do it all the time it's plain encouraged. Also in mega man x series people do that to fill up their sub tanks.
Mega Man's expression at 40:35 sums up my thoughts of DSP making money for playing games this badly pretty well.
Ugh! The music reeks with Game Genie ASS right from the very beginning! On another note, I guess it's pretty smart for the developers to program the game to react to Game Genie like this, intentional or not.

I will not lie, I do use that glitch when I fight the Yellow Devil, rematch the Last 4 Robot Masters and Dr. Wily himself because it's brutally hard. Maybe it would've been bearable if they added E Tanks, having Robot Masters drop an Energy Orb after you defeat them.
Mega Man 2 and the sequels are far better than the first game.

Watching him going through Ice Man's stage was so frustrating. He knew he had the magnet beam, but he didn't really use it. As soon as you're passed the first section, you can keep it active for the rest of the level pretty much.

Bugged Bullet Hell Mechanics

I'll admit, couldn't do Gutsman stage at age ten, now-a-days, yeah, no problem. Pattern recognition isn't one of his strong points, is it?

Holy hell what is wrong with the music on Phils game? Everything has a high-pitched beep to it sometimes.
His yelling on how the enemies' bullets go through walls and not knowing what 90% of the stuff does and not looking at the enemies' pattern (even reoccurring enemies) kinda makes me wanna see him play Binding of Isaac
The entire game is trial-and-error and requires several playthroughs because of the vast amount of 'dispensable' items and what items work with each other and frequently you forget what some items do and pretty much all of the enemies' AI aren't 'they're going to shoot bullets directly at you and are going to fucking follow you around'. It also gets worse and the game goes very much akin to a Bullet Hell to the average player. The game also expects you to look at the interface and the game itself before going further into the game, before every room.
I only say 'kinda' because I'm pretty fed up with his gaming skills that are equivalent to shit and his LPing style.

It's amazing how Phil doesn't use the Elec Beam to help defeat opponents that are below him or in a way that the regular weapon can't reach and rather defeat them the hard way. Isn't this what casual Mega Man fans do, think their weapons are only useful on bosses?
For starters, he's playing on surround sound which the NES can't adapt to. He's using a camera, and he's trying to play an NES game on an HD TV. Therefore, it totally ruined the experience.
