In this clip, John Salley weighed in on the controversy surrounding Kyrie Irving and the link to the documentary he reposted which forwarded many antisemitic tropes. John revealed that he watched the entire documentary and found an issue with the media focusing primarily on Irving as though he said he accepted those tropes as fact. Rather, John explained that Kyrie didn't pay attention to the antisemitic nonsense from the film but took away the bits and pieces that championed black empowerment.

The media covering this blew it way out of proportion. Kyrie posted about a film he sort of watched, which is fine. Reporters blew up the story and the Nets reacted to Kyrie out of irritation with him from other issues. A lot of overreactions...
I agree the Nets reaction to the issue has more to do with their previous issues with Kyrie.
Which all would’ve been solved if kyrie just apologized for bringing light to some of the offensive and false things that were said about Jews in that “documentary”. But he can’t admit he did anything wrong and kept doubling down. How does that look to a Jewish person when kyrie posts a link to a video that downplays the holocaust and he can’t even admit there was anything wrong with the video. If a famous white person (and I'm black) came out and said their favorite movie was "Song of the South" or D.W. Griffith's "The Birth of a Nation" (two notoriously racist movies), and didn't go into detail about WHY they liked those movies, they'd get pilloried, because the implication from their lack of detail (or silence) is that they have no problems with, or outright ENJOY, the racist aspects of the movies.
The reality is that a lot of these athletes are incredibly talented but woefully unintelligent, and not particularly deep thinkers. Why? They don't have to be. When you spend the majority of your life narrowly focused on becoming an expert on an athletic activity, that leaves very little room and time for you to develop the critical thinking skills OUTSIDE of the sport (or sports) you play. This doesn't even take into account the fact that many of these guys don't spend a significant amount of time taking their "advanced" studies seriously, because college is seen as a temporary means to an end, even if they spend 4 years there.
It's also rather disingenuous to think that the "positive" aspects of the film (which are historical nonsense on their face) are entirely unlinked and unattached to the "negative" aspects of the film. You cannot, in good conscience and better sense, say that the belief that black people are the true Hebrews and Israelites, and that the Ashkenazi and Sephardic Jews are liars and usurpers of that Jewish heritage, DOESN'T lead to the allegations of devil worship and Holocaust denialism. Why? Because the implication is that sense the Ashkenazi and Sephardic peoples are "fake" Jews, then their practices are tantamount ot devil worship, and that their slaughter during the Holocaust can't be anti-Semetic because they aren't REALLY Jewish.

For instance just like so called blacks are lumped up because of phenotypic similaraties, Jews are lumped in because of faith/religion. As we both know us in America are different from those, considered black in the Carribbean or any other place. Same as Jews, a Ashkenazi and a Sephardic Jew aren't the same people either they're related by religion. Neither term denotes who you truly are. As far as the documentary being disingenuous because of false information sprinkled in with factual information. That describes all of history taught through compulsory education. Do you believe everything you were taught about who you are is factual? Kyrie in my opinion is looking for answers when all he and others has to do is look in their family records and do their genealogy. I'm not a Hebrew Israelite but I'm privy to the information from years of studying various schools of thought. So with the documentary, the devil worshiper part I believe is dealing with the Talmud. I'm not sure just my educated guess. The Holocaust numbers, all you have to do is look at the records of how many Jews were in Germany at that time and you'll see it isn't possible that 6 mil were executed. Same as the bs narrative about the Middle Passage rebranded as the Trans Atlantic slave trade. But let's say 6 million Jews died in the Holocaust, you do know those were German and Polish Jews? So what were the difference between the Nazis and the Jews they were killing besides ideology or were they a separate people? If so where did they come from and how did so many end up in Germany unless they were German themselves? Vlad is a Ashkenazi which are your Eastern European Jews, what connection does he have to the Holocaust? His people didn't go through that. No different than a Carribbean having no connection to injustices to so called blacks in the US. My point is that anyone can be offended if you want to be offended. 1. There's both a religious and an ethnic/racial understanding of what makes some Jewish. A Jewish convert isn't considered Jewish by race, but by religion. Under normal Jewish law, Jewish descent is matrilineal, so a person could be the descendant of an unbroken line of male Jewish men, but that wouldn't necessarily make him Jewish under the rabbinical rules of Judaism. That being said, even within Judaism there's debate about that, so while you make a salient point about the comparison between blacks and Jews, the big distinction is that race, as its applied to black people, is a far different concept than race as it has been historically and religiously applied to Jewish people.
2. The Ashkenazi and Sephardic Jews are considered related not just by religion, but also by ethnic/racial heritage. The distinction between the two are simply where they ended up geographically during the various diasporas that the Jewish people had throughout history. However, both peoples trace their lineages back to Palestine. It's akin to the descendants of African slaves who ended up in Brazil, the Caribbean, and North America. They share the same descent, but because of the geographical location where they ended up, differences arose, yet they would still be considered racially and ethnically related due to their shared descent and origin in West Africa.
3. To your point about Kyrie looking for answers, I ask this: what is his question? Too many people provide these vagueries by saying, "I want the truth", which implies you either think or know that what you've been told/taught is a lie, in whcih case, where's the evidence for that belief? To put another way, what is it specifically about potential descent from the people of ancient Palestine (specifically the Jews) that is so appealing as to desire to find an "answer" confirming that belief? If it's merely because of certain interpretations of Biblical passages, that's far too thin to go off of considering the Bible is a very much ahistorical and allegorical piece of literature, not a factual historical retelling. If it's because of the visual successes and sense of community that Jewish people have had over the centuries, that opens up a nebulous and potentially misguided can of worms that I don't think Kyrie, or those who haven't really thought about, or possess the capability of deep thought, have considered.
4. To your point about the number of Jews killed. This is an issue of people simply not understanding or knowing the history. The vast majority of Jews killed in the Holocaust WEREN'T German. They were Polish. Germany invaded Poland on September 1, 1939 after signing a pact with the Soviet Union that agreed to split Poland in two halves. Poland (and to a lesser extent Hungary, Czechoslovakia, and Austria, which Germany also invaded and annexed) had a much larger Jewish population than Germany, and the overwhelming majority of Jews killed in the Holocaust were Polish. Why? Because Germany controlled most of the Western half of Poland from 1939 until early 1945. In fact, the most famous of the concentration camps, Auschwitz, is located in Poland for exactly that reason. So, what you erroneously bring up is not a case of people falsifying the numbers and making up 6 million non-existent Jews in Germany, but people not understand that the Nazi's occupied and control most of central Europe and extended the Holocaust much further than the original German borders. The term "German Jews" means not only Jews who were residents and citizens of Germany, but also includes those who were under Nazi rule and occupation, namely the Polish Jews.
5. I'm a bit confused about your next point concerning the German and Polish Jews. They ended up in different geographical locations for a variety of reasons, most commonly because the concept of an independent and unified "Germany" and "Poland" didn't exist until the late-1800s. Germany wasn't unified until 1876, and Poland was in a commonwealth with Lithuania until 1795, which resulted in what we consider to be both of those countries being partitioned into what we now recognize as parts of Austria, Prussia (northern Germany), and Russia. Considering that, until the 20th century, the vast majority of people across the world would never move from the city/town/village/hamlet of their birth, it's not surprising that many Jews stayed local, and thus you had Ashkenazi Jews who identified as German, Polish, Austrian, and so forth.
6. To continue, the difference is clear between the Nazi's and the Jews: aside from sharing the same nationality (German), Nazism was explicitly anti-Semitic (and, in general, anti-Religion but vaguely occultist). You're conflating national identity with religious identity when they're both separate and not mutually exclusive. Jews in Germany certainly saw themselves as German, but Nazism was a political ideology and identity well before it morphed into any sort of national identity (which is why it's called "Nazi" Germany and not Naziland or something like that). It's why Mussolini's Italy was called "Fascist" Italy, or Stalin's Russia was the Soviet Union, Hirohito's Japan was "Imperial" Japan, collaboratist France was "Vichy" France. All of those distinctions denoted political structures and ideologies that existed separate from the national identity.
7. To your point about Vlad being Ashkenazi. The Ashkenazi were the overwhelming majority of Jews killed in the Holocaust. They don't only comprise Eastern Europe, but include central Europe, and in particular, the lands of the former Holy Roman Empire (which, despite the name, was essentially a confederation of German dukedoms and principalities which encompassed, at its peak, most of modern-day Germany, Austria, parts of Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and parts of Hungary, Poland, and Lithuania). Vlad is Ukrainian, and the reality is that while there were some Russian and Ukrainian Jews who, when captured by the Nazis, were sent to concentration camps, the vast majority of Ukrainian and Russian Jews were actually killed by the Soviet Union, who were also anti-Semitic but didn't set up an official apparatus or policy of Jewish extermination like the Nazis did. Also, just because his lineage is Ukrainian-Russian doesn't mean his extended family is ONLY Russian-Ukrainian. The Sephardic Jews of the Iberian Peninsula (Spain) were essentially unaffected, as Spain was dealing with a major Civil War during the mid-1930s and into the 1940s, and was technically neutral during WWII once Francisco Franco and the Nationalists were victorious. Also, many of the Sephardic Jews of the Iberian Peninsula had long-since moved elsewhere or converted centuries before during the various Spanish Inquisitions and the periods when there was Muslim rule in the peninsula (ironically enough, the Muslims of the Iberian peninsula treated the Jews much better than the later Christians).
8. To your point about the Caribbean. While the injustice they have faced is different for a variety of reasons, the root cause is still the same: chattel slavery and the Middle Passage. Further, to understand their struggles as both black peoples, the descendants of African slaves, and the issues regarding class and skin tone that is heavily prevalent in many of the Caribbean, Central, and South American nations where the slave trade had an impact, you have to recognize the source, which is the slavery. The issues between the Haitians and Domincans is almost entirely due to the slave trade. The issues between dark-skinned and light-skinned Brazilians is almost entirely due to the slave trade and its long-term reverberations. The clear difference we see is that while these areas and nations have countries where the majority of the populace are decidedly NON-WHITE, the US is majority WHITE nation. That's why the closeness and proximity to whiteness in these nations is valued so highly, whereas PURE WHITENESS in America is seen as the end-all be-all (this is also due to the reality that North America, unlike the areas of the Caribbean and Central and South America, was always intended to be populated by white Europeans, specifically the British, and to a lesser extent the French and the Spanish; the Caribbean was colonized for economic exploitation, which didn't necessitate a large amount of British, French, Dutch, Spanish, or Portuguese nationals to live there full-time, but the large lands of North America were going to be nations unto themselves, merely under the crown and rule of a foreign power).
