Well, Shinsengumi is the closest one since they kinda have Samurai spirit and Rifles but no Armor., But 19th century is the era of not using body armor since bullet were too stronk for any material at the time. Also Portuguese Tercos armor are not bullet resistant either. In fact only Bulletproof samurai are bullet resistant.

Perhaps the line infantry would've had a chance if they were in 2 ranks, didn't use suppression fire that early, and used guard mode. Guard mode has saved my ass so many times. Essentially, it makes so only the soldier that gets into contact with the enemy starts to melee, while his comrades keep shooting.

probably because it only injured the samurai or that's their bulletproof tag in play I dont know how the bulletproof tag works in S2 but I do know samurai units have 2 HP vs non samurai losers having only 1 bullets don't make a roll against armor unlike other projectiles though I'm not sure how much damage they deal source: S2 unit editor

Third row doesnt shoot single shoot - all of them could just stay at homes that day (( Suppression fire reduce results, did some one managed three shoots ? So what is the point to lose accuracy ? And experienced commander could precalculate time of first gulp in maximum closing to increase damage, but to manage second gulp at devastating point-blank closure.
To be fair, if you trained for ~14 weeks to be line infantry (basically standing and getting as many rounds off as possible) I doubt you'd be a fair match to the guy who's literally been trained to kill mfs since he was in pre-school

Why don't you ever spread out your gun or rifle infantry. They are so much effective when spreading them out. Matchlocks can fire up to 66 guns when spreading them out and line infantry spread out can fire all 200 rifles when kneel firing. Keeping them in ranks of 3 decreases their effectiveness quite a bit.

shouldn't have used the suppressive fire till close since it decreases your accuracy and you only need the morale damage later in fight
