When you see the minimap it seems big yet when he scrolls between their kingdoms it shows that it's like a brisk walk to get between the two.
Map win. The extra gold for viper allowed him to save up so much more resources he'd normally sell (to buy for Stone) to defend that push.
That being said, going arambai on a choke map was a throw. He made it close after throwing away thousands of gold which could have been another 20 elephants and a good chunk of siege.

I’m seriously considering getting Steam just so I can get the new, expanded AOE. I haven’t played this game in what must be 15 years. These videos are bringing back so many memories.
I highly recommend :) £15 is a bit steep though but it's a game for life

It is worth it. Just think about how much money a new game costs and how few you actually play this. My father bought AOE2 for me and I played it 3 years straight. The game is just so well done. So many attention to details, so much balancing, no lootboxes. You can play casually or competitive, against others or AI. Everything is simple and good.
I have not figured out how we as gamers strayed away from this. I bought this game twice - just to send a message. I love this game. I admire the programming team. I admire T90 and all those amazing players - that still play, love, discover after 20 years. (Dude, this game came out on windows 98!)
This game is a legend. A milestone. That GAME that every next generation looks up to and tries to copy the success, but will never succeeds...
Yes, it is definately worth 10 €. I would donate even more to the developpers.

Tatohs biggest mistake in my opinion was to add the elite skirms way too late. if he pushed with halb-skirm mix in the initial chokepoint he could have drained more of vipers resources as skirms would help kill the camels.

At 21:45 one of the monks takes on the European monk animation during its conversion attempt. Slow it down to .5 speed if you didn't see it. Is that normal? Haven't seen that before.

He also turned yellow. I thought he got converted then converted back, but it was too fast plus his character model would be the same - they're the same race.

50:18 T90 is probably the biggest Viper fanboy in the universe.
Greatest mistake from Tatoh was not raiding Viper with hussars and cavaliers. You know, that +6attack against buildings, you head a strong convoy to a TC or keypoint
Perhaps Tatoh could’ve used Hussars with Manipur Cavalry to raid Viper’s tcs
I noticed something weird;
at 1:01:12, a skirmisher is created at the archery range which gets shot down immediately. It's not upgraded to Elite Skirmisher yet, though it appears to get the skin of Elite Skirmisher in its death animation. You guys see it?

Viper on office most of game had him on his heels 90 percent of time. It seems no matter what civ he has. He always one step ahead. He s good at that.

The siege workshop upgrade thing was actually not a lie, chat had to say to him (I was in his stream). Tho, he didn't say anything about it to tati, like a little snek would do

Tatoh did not seem to care about building a strong defense with stone walls, a couple of gates and several towers - despite an unusually perfect location for this in the only narrow passage. Behind the wall, catapults could have been placed and the towers could have been filled with 5 or 10 archers in each tower. Now the defense became really weak with a "panic wall" after a long time and a castle further back. Of course, it can be difficult to also collect stone, but it should have been prioritized more by both teams really. Behind a strong defense, Tatoh was then able to create massive attacks with several trebusches and other troops.
This was like watching a re-enactment of WW1 trench warfare.
i have never played any RTS game besides the tutorial of SC2 and the campaign of halo wars 1 on console but i have watched basically every T90 video on youtube. his casting just really got me roped into this game im never going to play but LOVE to watch

Going for Arambai was probably a bad idea. Should’ve just been straight Elite Battle Elephant. Berbers don’t have the best answers to the eles as no Halberdier and not very good Monks, and Heavy Camels aren’t very good vs eles in mass battles coz of the trample damage.
Think he underestimated how bad Arambai are against Camel Archers.

Definitely. In castle age it’s not _too_ bad because Arambai have such good base stats, the range difference between them is only 1. However in imp, the range difference is 2, and the camel arch get more upgrades.

Anyone watching this in the future, any good advice for a noob? I do well against my friends and their spouses/family/friends. but moment I play against randoms I get wrecked worst than (insert a dumb joke here).
I like playing as Poles and Britons. Poles get nice discounts, and are the only civilization that actually its better to build farms around windmills (bonus) rather than tc, at least I think its better.
The food bonus leads me to use Hussars a lot, like every single game.
Why didn't Tatoh make any skirms earlier? I think he could have won that way, by killing the camel archers earlier.
51:00 I think the joke is would you rather fight one human sized snake, or 100 snake sized humans. I'd go with the small norwegians, since I don't think they are venomous, and you could just kick and stomp them. A giant snake would put up quite a fight.
watch out. Those small norwegians would probably advance their tech through natural alternative energy sources, build mechs and long range artillery, and expand their empire. Soon they'd be unstoppable !

Even with the lacking armor upgrades elite skirms would have been cost effective versus the camel archers
Just my thought, especially since the halbs were already a meat shield and the skirms get bonus dmg vs archer units. I think halbs + skirms + eles could push Viper - at least at specific times during the match.

Why didn't they wall forward early like a normal BF start?
So little trebuchets from Tatoh, big mistake. He can get 4-5 trebuchets and 3 monks to guard them and push off with pikes and elephants, while killing castles. Viper would've been forced to attack but then he will loose his advantage of hit-and-run and that's what Tatoh needs here.

Verry good play from Tatoh with the bad civ on a bad map for the civ for so long time. Maybee it was an other game, if viper doesnt lie....i think this changes the game too much for me. anyway, gg. was verry interesting game!
I think TheViper playing better is debatable, Tatoh played as well as he could with what he had. If you switched who had all the starting advantages I think the game would have went very similar, just with TheViper losing. The top player playing with a handicap was destined to lose.
Viper ALWAYS starts with better resources... Maybe it has something to do with being player 4 (yellow)....

It's hard to believe how many still play this game competitively. I'm rather surprised they haven't tried making a 3 of yet with it's popularity. Maybe I should re-install the game and play again.
Maybe I misunderstand you, but there is an AoE3. More focused on the colonial age.
But I'd suppose that part of the game's charm is its aged graphics.

no, trebs can, then 'onager' (catpult upgraded once) in expansions and 'siege onager' (catapult upgraded twice) in the original version

I quit AOE 2 ,15 years ago because of this very issue. Low standard pop. This kind of long never ending game is the norm if you know how to counter, delay, and persist. The game just never end after passing a certain point.
