It is not shown but Max raided Viper and slowed his economy

Max sent 6 knights to Viper's base, you can see the split from the main army at 18:12.
The raid starts at 18:40 Max has 115 vils to Viper's 101, a 14 vil lead.
You can see Viper's vills going idle up to 42 at 19:00.
Raid ends at 19:32, Max has 123 vills to Viper's 93 vils, a 30 vil lead and throughout this time Viper had ~30+ idles.
I think this slowed Viper's economy just enough to compromise his paladin and trade cart numbers.
Not the only thing that affected the end result but it contributed and can be easily missed.
Right after 18:12, t90 says the overchop isn't that big of a deal lol.
Good catch. Looking at the overlay, it looks like Viper lost 8+ vills during that raid. That's significant.
same with an even bigger raid 2 minutes later, you can se the groupon minimap at 20:19, arriving at viper base at 20:28 and the raid goes n until like 21:45, where viper is down to 93 vils and had ~30 idles the whole time. Secrets push vs Zuppi that t90 focuses on, does way less damage. and t90 saying its good for Secret :P
@@Hennu_TRM i think from 14 to 30 on the K/D it was just villagers being killed by max' knights, that was what seems to have been one of the biggest plays in the game, thanks for pointing out @temp
yeah, but this kind of small raids does not give you so big advantage that max got over viper, which was having 50 palas agains zero army of viper basically. I mean viper lost this game when he chose to raid zuppi archer player in imp already with great eco and when it really did not matter if he had +- 20 vill. So it was pretty weak excuse for viper, to get raided with just 6 kts. I mean it does not really mattered if viper lost extra 300-400 food cuz of this raid, and also max has just better boom and he would always had vill lead, would always have and would always clicked pala first. and in general max is better pocket player than viper, he is the best pocket player in game as of now. FYI Max is a god of boom.

Damn how did I miss this fabulous game. Viper losing isn't often and is always amazing when he loses - seems like the opponent has to play beyond perfect to beat Vipers team.
I love the fact that I had no idea what was this game about but YT kept recommending ur videos to me so I just absorbed them :> now I even have a clue whats going on and learned few strategies. guess I should try out game myself
Always crazy to think about, these guys probably input 1000's of actions in any given game, and all it takes is ONE mistake when the players are that evenly matched (though maybe there were more in the game, hard for me to say as I don't play this one anymore but enjoy watching these matches).
Thankfully it isn't USUALLY the small misclick that costs a game. It can of course if it puts your army out of position, but what I love about this game is that macro is just as important as micro. Won't win if your economy and army movement is bad. Also won't beat an equal opponent if their micro is much better to snowball fights. Great game really

World class performance by Suomi. They have such awesome chemistry as teammates and when Max is at his best he is the best team player in the world bar none.
Good cast, good commentary, good voice. Keep up the AoE2 videos you're generating a lot of interest in the community. The devs aught to be paying you if they aren't already!
I don't get how DauT can be a meme for bad micro, but also one of the best players out there. This guy is awesome
Hi, I been playing AOE for 20 years, and am an avid player of AOE 2 HD on steam. I have one suggestion for when you cast these games. When you switch it to fog of war can you please leave it on for several seconds instead of changing it so quick to reveal the full map. That way you can get a feel for how the map looks in actual game play. Thanks a lot otherwise great casting
WeedtwoOH i downloden a ao2 crack a few weeks ago but apprently the multiplayer servers are offline . Does the official one still exist and do they still have a normal playerbase in multiplayer ?
@@iDutchieHD Hey that's because the AOE 2 version you downloaded is out of date. You have to buy AOE 2 HD from Steam.

Square formation, stand ground. pair up this group with 20-30 teutonic knights, 60 pallies split into two groups of 30. Use alongside siege units to take down ranged units en'mass and save lots of gold
Given how almost IDENTICAL all the numbers were for so long, there has to be a combat or a move or a technology that tipped the balance. I'd love to find it.

You should try the game, made 20 years ago but have great graphics, easy to learn the game and have fun trying tons of strategy
I just started the video and I'm being thrown away from my computer by the sheer awesomeness and power that has manifested itself in the form of these teams. These guys have definitely earned the right to be called the top teams in the game
In this game I see Max as a quarterback, preparing to that special trow, while his tackle line did a very good job holding the enemies

20:53 - TheViper has Cavaliers on the field while the screen is still saying that he is researching them. Software bug? Or is it because Franks stables work %40 faster and the system doesn't recognize that?
It's the faster stables. You can see the same issue with any civ with a building production bonus and a tech from that building; Persians and TCs, Britons and Archery Ranges, etc.
He had Chivalry researched which affects the speed of the Cavalier upgrade.

Such a great match, but the t90blind to Max raiding Viper was so infuriating and that played a huge role into the loss. Good cast either way, but that was a pretty huge hit to miss.

Great game. Bit of a shame you (mostly) missed those big raids by Max on Viper... looks like ~40 vils went down (plus idle time) between 18:30 and 21:30, right after he clicks up to imp. Seems to me that's why Max can get his paladins up while Viper can't.
By the way wondering why we didn't see more mango's with those huge archer blobs?

Max is a totally different player in team games than in one on one.Though his team loses many times but he dominates his opponent.
Wow Max just dominated. How was he so far ahead of Viper? Did Viper focus too much on micro maybe? Either way, very impressive game from Max.

Seems like the super fast imp for DauT was a sign that the secret players wanted to go for early imp map aggression over eco boom, and Max just had to hold while booming. They were neck and neck for the most part of the game, but when DauT chose to go fast imp Viper had to support him with what he got at that time, so it definitely delayed his eco to some extend. I think that's why Max pulled ahead, because he didn't have to invest in an early push, and he could fall back and rely on his late game spam because Secret's aggression didn't really get them anywhere except some vil kills, but no major ground was won.
@John Snow Viper and Daut focused too much on forced fights and they lost them to blue and green being supported by Max and their TC's too,and then they repushed back to dauts base and slain it hardly,,,
Thought that i just wanted to state the obvious for people who dont know,
between 18:15 and 21:45 you can see 2 raids from Max in Vipers Base on the minimap, Viper has a ton of idles in that time, and loosing a lot of villagers (he has 100 at 18:15 and only 94 two and a half minutes later). Somehow Maxs Vil count was better than vipers even before that, but after those raids, viper was too far behind max for a comeback
@@faultier3215 Yeah wow, about 35-45% of Viper's vils were idle for 3 minutes. That is a devastating amount in a match like this. Really effective move by TheMax, you can see the change in Viper's idles as soon as TheMax's raid hits.

Why dont they add a scout to the Archer/Knight formations to get the extra line of sight? is it simply because that would mean 1 less Archer?Knight per group or some other reason I havent though of?

It occurs to me that one could group the various empires into a number of buckets based on how good they are, then allow each team to pick one from each bucket. Might make for more variety.

DauTs archers actually were not that important because he was switching into Plumed Archers anyways Max raiding at Vipers base decided the game

This is one of these rare matches that i cannot predict outcome,even tho in the beginning it seemed viper x daut hentai will be on lead just because they're SUPER sync players But Max makes it seems unpredictable,amazing game
Its 26 minutes in for me and i can see that bad fights vs blue with teal cost secret game,cause other side capitalized of that mistake and pushed in for a succesfull push.
I caught this match on Nili's channel and came over hear to watch it again because it was so good.

So I'm just realizing that the AOEII community is still alive and well. I was never good, but used to have fun making bloodfest maps in the editors.
Do the top players do AOE2 exclusively, or do they dabble in the AOE remaster, AOE3, or AOEO emulator as well?
@Trecker When it comes to the competitive aspect, most players stick to AoE2. You can still come across top players in other RTS, but most of them won't go pro.

Secret is a new team that consists of some of the main players from Tyrant. I guess Tyrant had become too big, with so many of the worlds best players in one team kinda defeated the purpose of the competitive scene, especially when everyone could not get equal play time in the team lineup. I guess that's why they split apart and formed the new (but smaller) Secret team, and other players went to other teams instead.
Nah, Tyrant sponsor just disappear, they moved to Secret who propose to reform the team

Franks are the worst Civ in the game but they do have one of the best Pushes in the mid-Imp game in the form of Paladins. They are quick too - which I feel is what made the difference. Viper was late to the Paladin upgrade. Also, archers fare poorly in mid-Imp stage onwards.

I havent seen max lost even a game with paladin civs.

What does pocket mean. I assume it's refering to the player in the middle of the two teammates and their. Eco and reason why their better is cuz their protected by allies on flanks? Also what's up with hill bonus what is it?
1 you are correct with the pocket part. The hill bonus, when you're on the high ground, units deal 25% more damage , and receive 25% less from any unit that is on a lower ground level.
Pocket does refer to the center player(s) of a team. The benefit of being pocket is mainly that you can send help to either flank equally fast, and everyone can come to your aid easily because you are in the middle. That automatically means you are the most protected player on the team, and can afford to be more greedy with your eco and opt for a more potent late game composition. It's also the reason why flank roles often go for earlier aggression, because they can't afford the same boom without risking being overrun. Pocket is almost always an assisting role, either as the main powerhouse in late game, or as early support in the form of protection, sending resources to team mates, etc.
Uphill bonus just means whoever has the higher ground deals 25% more damage, and receives 25% less damage. That's why you see top players fight for hills, and dance around each other to get to the highest ground instead of just fighting where they are. Hill bonus also exists if you are firing down from a cliff.

Yes, pocket players are the ones in the middle with allies on both flanks, they spawn further from enemies and are usually more out of harms way in the early game, this gives them time to build up their economy. In many games the pockets will "sling" resources to their allies on the flanks to help them in the fight while they themselves tech up. Hill bonus is a 25% attack bonus for you and the enemy gets a 25% attack *minus*, as long as your units are attacking enemies that are on a lower elevation. So holding a hill with archers for example can give you a great advantage, but all you need is 1+ extra elevation.
@@gusramirez5647 Booming means using a significant portion of your resources on making your economy stronger. I'm not sure, but I'd guess it comes from the exponential growth: you make more town centers that can create more villagers that allow you to make more town centers and other economy even faster.
In most cases you want to keep expanding your economy even while attacking, but it isn't booming when military takes most resources. Often as a result you don't build the expensive additional town centers, so there's no exponential growth...
With so many knights and crossbows on the field, why did neither team build skirmishers or pikemen/camels?

If it's a team hidden cup, Max is the best TG player in aoe II, but he is not as strong as Viper at 1v1s

Not the first time I've seen Ethiopians win a team game because of higher DPS. In a team game only DPS matters because it's about who can kill the melee units in front first. I feel like Mayans in team games should stick with cheaper arbalests and not go plumed archers.
Naah, the Plumed Archers are also discounted and have the added advantage of speed.
The choice between Ethiopians and Mayans depends on how the team wishes to play. A team playing good in Early game would go for Mayans and if they play well in late game they would go Ethiopians.

It is heart warming to see the best 1x1 players losing team games, I mean when your brain is wired to do everything by yourself teamplay gets a bit rusty.

Why only 2 flags per team when we have 3 players per team? Tatoh is Spanish I think and no Spanish flag though.
