For future medicine I believe not. I have heard that the hypothermia research the nazis did was used. Probably the hyperbaric pressure stuff too.. I see this pattern whenever an 'authoritarian regime' takes these turns for the worse (torture and extermination efforts).

It's probably useful to have baselines for death to occur for safe operation under those circumstances or to develop safety measure, equipment to extent those baselines.
