    My one and only hope is that this collection sells so good that Bandai-Namco sees the interest in the series and decide to make a new sequel. Maybe with some extra mechanics or power-ups.

    I made sure to grab this on day one, and (minus one little complaint I have with the gameplay when Klonoa randomly slides sometimes-) it has been NOTHING but a wonderful time. I'm actually a bit saddened that I didn't get to play these when I was younger, because I know for sure that I would've loved them then, too! And thanks to retro game prices SKYROCKETING lately, I knew that I wouldn't have been able to grab original copies anytime soon, so THANK YOU BANDAI NAMCO FOR GIVING KLONOA ANOTHER CHANCE ♡ ... Although they could've done a MUCH BETTER JOB ADEVERTISING IT AND GIVEN THE US PHYSICAL COPIES, but I'm glad that we got it at all! If you've been wanting to give these games a go at any point, then definitely do yourself a favor and pick these games up! ♡

      Physical copies for the original PS1+2 versions have for a _very_ long time been highly expensive. The games didn't sell as well as they should have (mostly due to very poor marketing) and as such there were fewer copies to go around. That said, they are very good games and worth the price of admission, especially now that they've been rereleased for modern consoles and PC. I'm so glad Klonoa is back. :* )

      @@Getsugaru That's always so sad to hear, fantastic games not selling well because of terrible marketing decisions. 😞
      But thankfully I also hear that Phantasy Reverie Series is selling well despite the repeat of poor marketing (in the US, at least-), so here's to more of our favorite Dream Traveler! 💍

    • @Getsugaru
      @Getsugaru 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@PkmnTrainerKatie Indeed. Previously, the games were released in an era of internet gaming infancy, and would have to rely on television ads as their main marketing to the masses (as most children did not read gaming magazines, of which there were only a few), which from what I understand they did not in the West. Then, in 2009, the remake was released with similarly little marketing, even though we were then in an age where E3 viewing was more commonplace, and internet information spread was much more effective (and again, they didn't make use of either of those as far as I know).
      This time around, they made use of Nintendo Direct, actually bothered to make and release advertisements on sites like TH-cam, and in this modern age of internet wildfire, word has spread far and wide. And I hear that if this sells well enough, they'll put Klonoa 3 into development, so I'm glad the marketing team didn't do Klonoa dirty this time. The third time truly is the charm. 🐍

      The first Klonoa was advertised a lot on cartoon network in Australia and New Zealand and on a bunch of demo disc. Most the kids at school knew/wanted the game but it was one you rarely saw in stores. I remember asking for it for christmas and my parents couldnt find it anywhere. Its really weird to think about if it was a short production run or something, it was a similar thing with the Tomba/Tombi series

    Playing both of these for the first time - finished the first game and loved it, but the second is even greater! These are truly gems and it’s surprising how little known they seem to be.
    I think it’s worth nothing that while the mechanics are simple, as the games go on the layering of all the different enemy types and puzzles get more and more complex and they’re truly a joy to tackle. They do a lot with a little, and it’s quite remarkable.

    This was my favorite game as a kid on the PS1. It’s one of the few games I vividly remember to this day. Something about it really captured me, despite the very simple gameplay. The story pulls at your heart strings sometimes. So great to see a remaster. Definitely getting this

    I'm an avid fan of the originals. I've played through both of these remakes/remasters, and they're great. The Lunatea's Veil remake especially is nice. The Door to Phantomile remake is good, but I prefer the sprites of the original game more. My only criticism is that some of the textures, especially the texture of Klonoa's fur, are kinda terrible. But other than that, no complaints. Performance is good and I encountered no bugs. (Note: I played on PC, not switch)

    • @NintenZoid84
      @NintenZoid84 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Wii version imo is hands down the overall greatest way to experience Klonoa 1, on a CRT TV. This remake of a remake, has 'sticky' jumping(Blame it on the 10ms of latency coming from my OLED I guess) and resorting back to Chibi/Little Klonoa makes the jumping feel far more awkward and unintuitive.....He jumps TOO high, almost like a grass hopper.
      They should of tinkered with the jumping at least, to give you actual control of the momentum based on how low and high you jump. Even the Original Super Mario Bros. on NES had this, and that was back 85'...Klonoa just hasn't aged well at all. Although, the soundtrack truly is Wonderful, and some of the stages feel very dream like and surreal, AND they did a decent enough job of remastering the Wii version's visuals and bringing into the world of HD.
      But ultimately the 'sticky' grasshopper jumping and irritating JPN-only voice overs kill the experience for me. Klonoa(Wii) on a CRT is the only way i'll play this after experiencing all 3 versions.

    • @NintenZoid84
      @NintenZoid84 ปีที่แล้ว

      And yes, stay clear of the Switch version, unless you want the environments to judder like crazy whenever you move from left to right. It breaks the experience. I have the PS5 version, which runs at a stable 60fps + 4K etc.

      Higher difficulty??? As someone who grew up in the PS2/Xbox/Gamecube era, Klonoa 2 was simply easy. While the Wii remake of the first one was way too easy, the PS1 version was medium depending on how the gamers play. I do agree 2 is a better game, though.

    I would love to support the collection if it gets a physical release where I live. I am not one to purchase a game from a different country online and pay import tax. I would rather go to a store in my own country and pick the game up. I don’t understand why Namco made this decision to only make physical versions in Asia and Europe, but make the collection digital only for elsewhere countries. Is it showing that Namco is not confident the collection will sell well outside the two aforementioned countries? It doesn’t make sense if they are interested to bring back a beloved platforming series like Klonoa back from obscurity.

    Door to Phantomile is so close to being the definitive way to play it but gosh they really botched some of the animations during cutscenes. (Which are just moved over from the equally botched Wii version)
    Normally for a platformer this would be moot but Klonoa actually has a solid and emotional story (though basic).
    Also while some areas look amazing others are missing some atmosphere compared to the original.
    I would say in contrast Klonoa 2 in this collection is THE best way to play that game.

Little nit picks with some of the stages but the end cinematic some of the design changes with that I really dont like compared to PS1 version. Also 25 hours of play time?! Finished door to phantomile in 2 hours and lunateas veil in 3 hours. While I like the art style and world design, the movement and platforming felt stiff, clunky and a bit unintuitive to me, especially for the relatively simple game mechanic. It felt a bit cheap and unpolished. I think this may be a case of nostalgia googles for some long time fans. While i briefly played the games years ago, I never could quite get into them. This being said, I enjoyed the demo, but I do think this game is tailored to long fans more than newcomers.

    The frame rate is kinda iffy on the switch. Running 50-60. Doesn't feel as smooth as it should and shows that the optimisation needs some work. More intense games have ran at a smooth 60fps.
    As for the presentation, it could use some work. I'm fine with them looking more like early 360 games. But the animations are what get me. The animations could have used way more polish. Especially in the cutscenes

    “Doesn’t always have the best performance”, that’s being very diplomatic considering the amount of stutter and frame drops seen in the gameplay footage. This clearly has some of the worst frame timing I’ve seen in a switch port, unacceptable. The switch is no powerhouse, but we’re dealing with cleaned up wii level graphics here, it should run flawlessly.

    It's a shame the Switch version doesn't consistently run at 60fps, but being at that rate most of the time is real nice considering how other remasters of PlayStation 1 games like Crash and Spyro only run at 30fps on the Switch. There is another little snag however. Klonoa Reverie Series is a whopping 8GB on the Switch which is actually quite a lot for a Switch game, and the Switch doesn't come with a whole lot of space for games. So make sure you have an SD card Switch users!
