This really happened! Even though Catherine Parr was raised Catholic, because she enjoyed debating with Henry about religion, it was suspected she might be a protestant. Lucky for Catherine, she heard about these rumors before they were brought to Henry. So she preemptively explained that she only engaged in debates on belief with him to distract him from the painful gout in his leg. That's why Henry had such a strong reaction. He believed that a kind spirited gesture from his wife was being spun by members of his inner circle. Clever Catherine 😁
Nah i dont think he would care about cait that much, plus we can tell she was scared after his reaction, which would imply his outburst was a subtle warning for her "to know her place" and she got it
... You are aware this is a dramatic retelling correct? We don't know that she was scared in that moment. In fact given how much of an independent woman she was, especially at court, it's highly unlikely. Also, Henry was known to be quite fond of Catherine. He called her "sweetheart", trusted her to rule as Regent when he was, and asked that when he died she should be treated with the respect of a Queen of England (rather than a Dowager Queen) after he passed.
Catherine WAS a Protestant. She wrote a book about her conversion from Catholicism to Protestantism after Henry died - the first book written by a woman in English to be printed. Iirc, this scene is based on Henry's concern when he found out about Catherine's Bible studies with her ladies-in-waiting; he suspected she might be teaching them new religious ideas (which she was). But she told him she would always base her theological position on his, which was all that mattered to him as head of the church. He disliked most Protestant ideas, but hus real concern was that people not use religious differences as an excuse for treason. Elizabeth was the same, though less paranoid than her dad (she also had an advantage of being extremely popular). As long as Catherine openly deferred to him, he would stop worrying she was teaching her maids treason and she kept her head!

I think the smartest was Anne of Cleves. Henry had to scare Parr to get her to back off like with Jane but Cleves knew right from the start not to piss off Henry.
Henry liked to play the hero. With many of his wives he liked the feeling of "I rescued you from obscurity and lifted you up." I wonder if that's why he didn't cancel the arrest warrant and allowed this scene to play out.
Catherine Parr was smart and lucky that she met Henry in his ending tine,if he was healthy and young he can easily dethrone her but he was old and Catherine was like a nurse to him
Look how long it took him to finally understand what theyvwere doing the whole time. Userpting his authority as king and corrupting every marriage he had. And he would have had 2 wives, not 6, giving him the worst reputation of any king.

No. He signed the arrest warrant and put on a show to scare her into submission as she was an active religious reformer. The Catholics didn’t like it and convinced Henry to sign her arrest warrant for her reform activities. The only reason he did not go through with it was bc someone had tipped Catherine off about the coming arrest, and she went to apologize and stroke Henry’s ego. He let the warrant go this far though, to scare her and as a warning.
