Oh agreed, Umbreon is great in his own right. I don't think he's particularly useful in most Nuzlockes, but the lower power of Johto does make him a lot stronger by comparison.
The original tier list from Imported Cheese is for casual playthroughs. Since it's easy to outspeed everything and one shot with a strong stab, he doesn't value defensive pokémon at all. They all end up in the trash tier. Pokémon is just not hard enough that strategy matters in any way, setting up and stalling is just a waste of time But in Nuzlocke, I think they are a bit more valuable. You can't spam the A button until you win like in a casual playthrough. Sometimes it's worth it to spend a few turns to set up with a defensive mon, like we saw

Actually think that makes it perfect for this kind of challenge. Different kinds of tier lists lead to different choices, which is exactly the idea behind it in the first place. Though I'll admit, I did exclude some of the heavier-handed choices in the tier (Skarmory/Gligar, Teddiursa/Donphan, etc).

Umbreon and Shuckle being F tier is hilarious with how often FlygonHG uses them. They aren't flashy, but bulky mons with status are amazing when the goal is don't die.

weezing and umbreon absolutely did not deserve to survive these stipulations, i feel like a lot of people super discredit defensive pokemon both weezing and umbreon are bulky as hell and have useful immunities, theyre excellent for stalling for time, applying chip to set up a kill, pivoting, you name it thats a natural consequence of only having one runner's opinion to go off of, though, i suppose
Most of these mons are legitimately in my top favorite tier. Especially Corsola, Dunsparce and the Arbok, Weezing, Parasect, Jumpluff, Ledian and Magcargo lines. Oh and Shuckle of course, who doesn’t love Shuckle?
My secret hope is for a Mega Shuckle one day. I know he'll never evolve because Eviolite is a thing, but a Mega would be so cool. Because like, who is gonna waste their Mega slot on a Shuckle (other than me)?

Don't be sorry! This is actually the reason why for the Elite 4 I change the layout to just the team. For most of the rest of the video, I find its a bit irrelevant as the team changes a lot between fights, and I cover them in pretty rapid-fire fashion. I started with a team layout in my White 2 video, but changed to the current layout because it was much easier for ease of editing.

Umbreon may be a decent choice in some of Smogon's Singles formats, but in an in-game playthrough, its bad because in-game playthroughs heavily favor monsters who win in as few turns as possible. If you can reliably KO enemy monsters in 1 or 2 turns, they get far fewer chances to cheese you with crits and moves like Double Team, Mud Slap, Sand Attack, Supersonic or powder moves. This is also why speedrunners always favor offensive powerhouses.

Post game is necessary - a HG/SS run isn't complete until you beat the main game, Kanto, the Elite 4 rematches, and then Red

Ayyyy I love some underrated Pokémon. One of my all time faves is Ariados/Spinarak, so it’s too bad this wasn’t Heart Gold 🙃
I love Ariados too! I had just used one in Ultra Moon which is part of why I chose SS over HG actually haha.
