As a new fan getting into Damon Albarn's world, I'm believing 2D have been created inspired actually in Graham. I guess it because I read somewhere that, first: the former words that 2D and Murdoc exchanged were in fact the first words that Graham and Damon exchanged, and second: I also read that the personality of 2D is quite similar to Graham's. Gorillaz fans will correct me if I'm mistaken.

@Serial Killa yeah I was agreeing, I think the whole dispute was weird really. The two bands were incomparable. Completely unlike each other. I just see Damon and his collaborations as progressive, whereas Oasis seem to have stayed in their niche, flying birds, Liam's solo career, nothing special really are they. I suppose the Manchester bombing gig was awesome, and I consider some of their tracks to be national anthems, but Damon's music has a more worldwide vibe to it, like its more all encompassing. Sorry about the confusion btw

I'm a pretty big fan of both to be honest. I have a love hate relationship with Britpop in general. The rivalry for me is really elitism vs populism, and fuck you Noel if you think that makes me arrogant. Typical working class anti-intellectualism there. You see, Blur being the more progressive of the 2 despite being really disgustingly posh, and Oasis being the more traditional despite being the working class actually had a profound impact on British society. Its predicted the music, the culture and politics of 21st century Britain. Complex relationship with the music too, which I love. Oasis is like brilliant pastiches of classic rock and roll, and through a boozy cocaine filter. Be Here Now is a fucking awesome album. Blur, wow, a criminally underrated band by most people. Capable of amazing songwriting, hooks, melody, make you cry, make you dance, basically the Kinks in the 90s. The Universal is one of my favourite songs and lyrics ever, which I must stress the point that Oasis for all my love for them write shit meaningless lyrics, but Blur have good lyrics on the whole. Song 2 is a play on meaningless lyrics so it doesn't count.

Nah not accurate at all. Blur have plenty of heavy-sounding songs in their catalogue. A few examples: Advert, Oily Water, Song 2 (bruh that's even their most recognised song), Chinese Bombs, Bugman, Swamp Song, Trimm Trabb. And they've explored so many other genres, like gospel, ska, psychedelia and electronica. So no they don't make just pop music in a narrow sense, although they're pretty great at that

One thing I hate that people say, is that Damon's lyrics don't go into much depth and that they don't make sense, blah blah blah. It doesn't matter that way. Lyrics could be 5 words but they have so much meaning behind them. Damon comes from the heart.

As someone not from the UK that discovered both Blur and Oasis within the last few months, I have a few things. Firstly, it's absolutely hilarious how petty you all get over these two bands. I mean, legitimately hilarious going through these comments and seeing people attack each other over a 25 year old argument. Secondly, both are enjoyable, but Oasis had a better sound, and Gorillaz were Damon's best work. You all really need to relax with the whole "Noel can't write songs for shit" thing. He's a great songwriter. Damon likes to be experimental, Noel likes to keep things simpler. Simple isn't bad. I think he writes some beautiful songs and takes himself a bit more seriously, and I think Damon likes to have fun and mess around more. They both make their thing work. They're vastly different styles that I really don't think you can compare. Lastly, the whole debate is meaningless, overplayed, outdated, and you all need to calm down.

I love both bands music, so for me it boils down to personality. Oasis are too cocky, so much so it seems defensive, where as Blur clearly dont give a shit and just get on, and just seem nicer people to be around. So Blur wins 100%
