I made this yesterday morning in an about a hour and will definitely be making another one today in a different color! Very cool pattern and so easy to follow. I making a bunch of hats to wear on vacation to Idaho next month. Thanks for sharing and your time! 👍💖👏👏👏💯😎
Came here for non-hat-related reasons (to learn how to increase when making granny stripes). Thanks for this tutorial, not only did I learn the technique I needed, I was also inspired to make a new hat. Looks really good. Yay!
I saw this pattern on Pinterest, not your tutorial, but the pattern and I loved it, so I began looking for tutorials and videos. I have a deformity of mt right arm, but luckily I was born left handed, but sometimes it's hard for me to find tutorials that cater to my needs. This video is great, you explain things clearly, don't talk too fast and skip ahead when need be, so thank you very much for this tutorial. I love the Bernat stripes yarn as well, they are fun.
Making this hat with neon stripes red heart as per directions leaving r 6 in. I have to wear my hair up for work. I thought this would be great to keep head warm incase I need to be out in cold for very long. Thanks Mikey for all your great patterns & instrctions. I have followed along with you on many peojects.
Thank you for the really quick pattern and tutorial. I used uk Aran and it turned out beautifully. I did all the rounds then frogged back to remove round 6.
I made one of these using Caron Cakes (color Red Velvet) for the body, and some shade of blue for the bottom. I went all rounds, went 7" for the body, and went three rounds for the brim. The hat fits perfectly! I was a little disappointed that I didn't get more color variations with the Caron Cakes, but I was still happy with the results. This hat was going to be donated to charity, but I may have to keep this for myself! Lol! Thank you for a great tutorial!
I love your videos, I will be doing this, I love that yarn, I wished I knew about this color earlier today when I was getting my yarn. But that's alright I'll work with what I have.. I'll post pics soon :)
This is a very cool hat definitely going to try both patterns because I am a tight crocheter, but I do have a small head so I might need to give myself some wiggle room.
I did like learning how to do this hat. It will match a scarf I'm making. However, it would have been nice to see how to carry the yarn up. I have never done this and am a little confused. Want to use the yarn to match the scarf and don't know what to do. Thank you Mikey for all you do for us.
I can always count on great tutorials from you. I made the hat using Premier Sweet Roll in Cheesecake (similar to Caron Cake). The variegation is a little wider, but still cute. My only problem is I couldn't get the hang of the alternating FP/BP for the rim. I wasn't sure if I was doing it correctly, you were going so fast. I ended up doing single crochet brim alternating rows of front stitch/back stitch. Still came out nice, but I'll have to find a tutorial for alternating post. I'm going to use your tutorial for the Granny Style Super Scarf to go with the hat.
I made this hat and it came out fantastic!! Super instructions and video tutorial !! I’d love to make a matching scarf…. Is there a matching scarf video tutorial as well? Please let me know where to find it? Thanks so much again for this terrific and easy to follow video tutorial. Love it! 🤩
I wish you would have said before you frogged out row 7 for those of us keeping row 7; if we are supposed to put 3 double crochets in-between the 3 areas in row 6 that have 2 double crochets in them. :( I couldn't tell from the directions on the pattern what it meant....that is why I love watching your videos.....they are 99.9% easy to understand. I know this video is old so it probably won't matter to anyone else....I just thought in case you revamp it ever :) Thanks Mikey! You are the BEST!!!
@@williambrown-xi1uj I found out through trial an error that the way your finished crochet project depends a lot on your yarn tension. For example: I tend to be a "tight" crocheter therefore my finished projects tend to come out smaller than the pattern/tutorial shows. If this is the case, you might want to try crocheting with the next size up (larger) hook. I hope this helps. Good luck!
Will this work if I use a single solid color? A few years ago, my daughter presented me with a skein of black with iridescent mixed yarn and I would love to surprise her with a nice hat.
Hi, I am brand new to crocheting and tried this project. For some reason my hat came out with kind of a bucket shape. Do you know what I am doing wrong? I love your videos!
Increase your hook size and double check the gauge on the pattern and do a sample swatch to test it. You will know what size hook you need to change by doing a gauge check. We each crochet differently.
The pattern has a gauge swatch. Create a new swatch from scratch and test the sizing. This video at the 6:17 mark shows how to do a gauge swatch to check. Use the pattern you have as the gauge but this is what I mean. th-cam.com/video/EAXs0BOopZQ/w-d-xo.html
I just made this hat left out round 6 and it's still too big....I don't crochet loose...Help please what can I do so it fits me...and I want to make one for my grand daughter too, she's 7
For some reason my brim ridges are going diagonal and not falling in a straight line. It doesn't look bad but I have no idea what I did to mess that up.
OMG...I dropped all the way down to a G hook left out round 6 and this is still way too big....I am in no way a loose hooker...I'm using the Red Heart Reflective yarn...GGGGRRRRRRRR
You're just too quick and don't show the detail at the end of each round. I kept going back and back and back and then trying to see if what you did matched up. Gave up.
I'm so sorry I ruined this for you. The link to the free pattern is available to you in the video description if that's something that is better suited for you. Again, I'm sorry about that.
I used a size G hook for the granny stitching and an F for the ribbing. For the newborn hat size, I tweeked round 4: -In chain one space do Ch 3, 2 dc (how mikey showed at beginning of each round) ch 1, -Next open ch 1 space, 3 dc ch 1. -In the 3rd ch 1 space, I did an increased doing 2 dc , ch 1, 2 dc, ch1. (Split like how mikey showed you) So there will be an increase in every 3rd open space, so there will be 4 spots that have an increase. After that I did round 5 til I got to the length that I needed ^-^ Hope that helps others who are trying to make this smaller!
Omg you are the most patience person/teacher ever!!! I love you!! Learned on the car ride to San Antonio & my hat was DONE!! Thank you.
The best video about how to crochet a beanie hat. Thank you. Now I'd like a tutorial about how crochet a Rasta Hat.
Made this one yesterday using a caron cotton cake and I also stopped after the 5th round. Turned out beautifully! Thanks Michael 😊

I have always had problems with hats, but this one turned out perfect! You were right, I left out row 6.. fits perfect and super cute!! Thank you!
Thank you for the wonderful tutorial! I have made several now in solid colour!! Thanks again.

.. And have you found a TH-cam video that helps with DECREASING with granny stitch? thanks.
I'm making a second one in this pattern in Christmas colors. It's one of my favs. I enjoy your tutorials. :)
This is a great hat. Very easy tutorial. Thank you so much.

Did the brim really work? I mean, it fits, doesn't fall off? I'm a bit wary of this dcfp dcpb method but might try it.
love this. gonna make one after work tonight :)

jolis bonnets et jolies couleurs,,,,j'aime bien
I wonder if it will work the same if bI turn my work at the beginning of each round instead of slip stitching to get to the chain one space.
Will this work if I use a single solid color? A few years ago, my daughter presented me with a skein of black with iridescent mixed yarn and I would love to surprise her with a nice hat.
very nice I made of my inçe.
I love this pattern. Can this be made using chunky yarn?
Hi, I am brand new to crocheting and tried this project. For some reason my hat came out with kind of a bucket shape. Do you know what I am doing wrong? I love your videos!
What happens if you put 3dc's in every place taking the place of 2dc's?
Can we have a stitch count for each row so we know we have the count correct?
tks
Hi, how would i do this using a thinner yarn? But it is all i have :)
I did the 6 rows of increases and went up a hook size and it will fir my fat head. LOL Minor miracle there.
How many sts are in rnd 5? When making hats I use an H hook and for women make hats of 21 sts. For men I make hats of 23 sts.
I finished one , just a little bit tight, I would like make bigger and bigger, what can I do ? Please🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

@@TheCrochetCrowd normally gauge increases in which line ? Or increase from start? 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

would a magic ring work at the top to close up that hole?
Yes - a magic ring works and I opted to close it up when I did the hat.
Hello beautiful
very nic
Can you do the hat with two balls of wool?
Thank you for sharing this! Where do you buy the bernat super saver yarn with the striping effect???
Brenda Kocourek I've made 2 of these in Red Heart SS STRIPES, they turned out Beautiful!
Hello Brenda
how would I make this bigger for a 30 inch head? round six twice maybe??
Could you alter this for a messy bun?
Yes I believe you could. Give it a try and see what you come up with.
Hi I wanted to know where do you get your yarn from
I think is nice! thanks
Do you fold the hat in half to measure 8 inches
my ending was too relaxed. what can I do to fasten it.
I just made this hat left out round 6 and it's still too big....I don't crochet loose...Help please what can I do so it fits me...and I want to make one for my grand daughter too, she's 7
Do you have a written pattern ?
Thanks

There you go~
www.yarnspirations.com/granny-stripes-hat.html
How would I make this a kid sized beanie ?
+Bobbie Gallardo More than likely, just do what he did to make it smaller for him. Do 4 or 5 increase rounds instead of the 6 the pattern calls for.
For some reason my brim ridges are going diagonal and not falling in a straight line. It doesn't look bad but I have no idea what I did to mess that up.
The ridges are inline with one another but just sitting diagonally instead of straight
Mikey where can get those darning needles thanks
I picked mine up in a kit for felting balls. It's a felting darning needle that I use. I am unsure where to buy them on their own.
How to Crochet - The Crochet Crowd I found the same felting needles at Michaels thanks 😀
How would I change this pattern if I wanted to use a chunky yarn such as Barnat chunky yarn
Hello Brandy

It’s a 4 ply. A worsted weight #4 medium
I followed the link but I couldn,t find the pattern please help

why is mine not turning out. I have taken it apart and redid it 4 times and still it doesn't turn out like it should
OMG...I dropped all the way down to a G hook left out round 6 and this is still way too big....I am in no way a loose hooker...I'm using the Red Heart Reflective yarn...GGGGRRRRRRRR

I did mine the way you said with a G hook...it's too big for my 2-1/2 month old grandson...it will however fit my 7 year old grand daughter
Really???
I'll have to re-work it again. Mine was almost to small for my newborn son to wear when he was born. He had a big head though :p
