  • If you love dungeon crawlers but miss the sense of exploration they once had, Deep, Abandoned is for you. It's part of a series of dungeon crawlers that use the dungeon components you already own, and mix the wild feeling of old crawlers with the best quality-of-life improvements of new crawlers.

The Nugget-Verse... I love it! Thank you for your kind and constructive words. I thought people might be interested to also know that after Steampunk Saga I will be releasing Deep Space, Abandoned. After that I will revisit Deep, Abandoned with Deeper, Abandoned. It will have more adventures with greater objective variety. New and unique enemy tables. New heroes and new travel and settlement destinations / locations. I will also introduce a new scatter terrain table (optional). It will have the rules (with some revamps) but 100% of the Deep, Abandoned adventure content will remain unique to that book and fully compatible.

All of that sounds great. I'm a fan of scifi themes, and of course I want more Deep, Abandoned content!

I have had this in my cart for quite some time now and there is very little content to review so thanks for sharing this. My hesitation comes from having so many fantasy crawlers and I prefer futuristic, sci-fi and grimdark skirmish games with a little bit of the exploration and character development that comes with full-on dungeon crawlers.
My other hesitation is me being spoiled and the components simply lack appeal. I get it’s an affordable option but I am a very visual player and even the free game variant I create and share have visually appealing cards and tokens. That being stated, I could upgrade it myself but I really don’t want another project… at least not until I complete my solo variant of Space Hulk that I have been developing for over a year now.

Hey Kevin! Your name didn't click with me in your prior comments as the person that got me to buy that model-less copy of space hulk after our interactions at the Dungeon Dive FB group. Glad to have you around.
We're all drawn to the physical nature of these games or we'd just play video games, so I understand. For me, the player cards are nicer than the purely excel-spreadsheet warband trackers I'm used to from most skirmish game rulesets, and the room cards are functional. But if a person needs a more premium experience, I'm not going to judge them. One cool thing to consider, though, is that even if those specific components aren't as high-quality as if they'd come in a boxed game, the rest of the game can be super premium because it's not written assuming specific components, so you can bring in your best components from other games.
I'm looking forward to that space hulk solo mode!

Yes! I’m glad you got your copy of Space Hulk. Updates have been shared in the Space Hulk group but I got sidetracked with a second expansion for Space Marine Adventures Doomsday Countdown that is all but completed. I will be focusing more on SH: Solus and the closing chapter of the initial storyline (which was submitted to Black Library during this years open submissions but was rejected). The prelude and first chapter is the opening for the rulebook, which I did post to the FB group (after the submission was rejected). I also plan on two expansions that will require models no included in the game box.
Anyway, yes I understand the need for less defined graphics with a miniatures agnostic game to allow for the player to use the miniatures they have available. That being stated, the monsters appear to be generic enough that they could have a nice stylized art with a layout of the stats that would eliminate the tables. This is again a personal preference of mine as SH: Solus could potentially be done if I simply created tables to roll on but as it is I am currently over 100 cards in 6 different decks with some that can be drawn and retained by the player until they choose to play them for benefits or discard them due to upgrading their equipment. I think this method improves the issue you discussed in the video with trying to remember special abilities or forgetting about bonuses a character has.
I have thought about taking SH:Solus and creating my own IP and having it produced as a miniature agnostic game, but I only do game design and writing as a passion and although it would be fantastic to earn a living that way, it seems so far fetched and unreal to me. Additionally, I have no idea where to start in the board game world.
A am excited to see what Brett comes up with for Deep Space Abandoned as each release he has continually temps me to check it out, which I may do after the initial SH:Solus is completed as I have not picked up any new crawlers since I started it as I have the vision and do not necessarily want to be influenced to incorporate another idea.
Sorry for the long passionate response.

@@kevinstricklen7579 I love hearing about your projects. You and I first started talking about Peter Cooper's expansion for WHQ cursed city, where I had already made the coin tokens you were thinking about trying to find the time to make amongst your myriad projects.
I got my start in horror fiction by self-publishing a couple of books which got the attention of a publisher. You're already doing all the work. Maybe do it as your own IP and then publish it yourself on dtrpg and wargame vault. From what I've seen, you have so many connections, you'd instantly have a player base. If it did really well you might get an offer from a publisher like Modiphius like what happened with 5 Leagues and Rangers of Shadow Deep. Or you might find that you like doing it all yourself.
I'd offer both cards and tables, with the cards available as pdf and also as physical through drivethrucards.
I would hesitate to give this advice, except you're already doing every part of that except uploading it to sales sites. Something to think about!

You know what other game scratches all these itches ( though set up and table space are off the charts)? Dungeon crusade. So fun once you dive in. Tons to do and always crazy events and color

I love the visual look of it, but because of it's size I've never looked deeply into it, knowing it won't fit my table. Glad to hear it's a good one!

I'm 20 mins in so forgive me if this comment is premature... Why aren't you mentioning the 'other game'?
I love a good dollop of criticism for games.
Saves the community money if they agree, and if they don't, there'll be plenty of people who will tell you you're 'wrong' in the comments... which will apparently boost your channel in the algorithm(?)
    Thanks for covering this system!
A quick TH-cam search didn't reveal much however I think I've found something on a channel called 'Nugget's Dungein Terrain' (hoping that 'Nugget' is Nugent's nickname-UPDATE: It is!!)
    Cheers again

So awhile back I made a big negative post in the dungeon dive FB group about unnamed other game to warn people off of it, because I saw a lot of people about to back it. I think more people saw that post than would see a video here, just because of the size of that group and the post getting a ton of engagement, and that makes me feel like I did my duty. I hate negative interaction online, but I did it for just the reason you said: I didn't want to see people spend money on an unfun game. But I think that was enough for me. I don't own the game anymore and can't give it a real review, and I don't want to be known as the guy who constantly attacks one indie game dev's effort. I don't want it to seem to be my mission to bring down this one game.
But if you email me, I'll tell you 😅
