What The HELL Is Happening To AC Milan? | Explained

  • On this week’s FD Explained, we’re looking at AC Milan. The Rossoneri might have kept Leao and reached a Champions League semi this year, but it’s a huge drop from last season’s Scudetto. Bad transfers saw Paolo Maldini sacked, and now the club is losing Sandro Tonali to Newcastle in a massive €70m switch - a sign their pull might be gone for good. So what has happened to the Rossoneri? Where are the weaknesses in the squad? How can they avoid the slump deepening next year? And are there reasons to be optimistic about the future?

Malick Thiaw a drop-off? He is arguably the only decent signing Milan made last season, huge potential and he surely gonna be a starter next season. Most of the games he played he was absolutely brilliant. This just shows how you can't rely only on stats, you have to judge a player on the pitch. On the other hand, a CB who really had a drop-off was Tomori, struggled a lot and had a couple of shocking performances.

Tomori was really bad, he got hella cooked by Inter forwards like asado on the grill many times last season.

@@aaronlewis7044 This are simply stats, and as it has been said you can't rely only on them. I watched every Milan game last season, and if we consider all the single performances of our CB's, Thiaw was by far the most convincing one. Tomori had a bang average season with some terrible performances, Kalulu had some big struggles and also Kjaer isn't the player he was 2-3 seasons ago. So calling Thiaw "a wrong bet on the wrong time" is just absolutely...WRONG.

AC Milan is now owned by American investment firm Redbird partner. The main reason they are bringing Pulisic in, so for the people wondering why the heck are they signing Pulisic? That's why. Great way to bring more state side fans to Milan and buy more jerseys. I don't know how he will adjust to Serie A and Italy. Germany is easier for American players because most Germans speak English. South American players tend to adapt better in Italy due to cultural similarities and if you speak Portuguese or Spanish, Italian will be fairly easy to pick up.

Can't take a video about Milan seriously when it's narrated by a guy who said Tonali was thought of in Italy as a luxury player who drifts around the field when he's literally considered the exact opposite, more of a modern day Rino Gattuso... mindbogglingly amateur misprofile
Also Thiaw was one of Milan's best players in the second half of the season - absolutely pocketed England's darling Harry Kane in his FIRST ever Champions League start. He's literally played himself into starting contention for Germany.
You've also got the reasons for Maldini's sacking wrong too, CDK was a joint signing between Maldini AND Moncada, who is a Redbird darling. Maldini was fired because he wanted an increase in budget without having to sell.
Also x3, there haven't been Balogun rumours for MONTHS but you guys mention it over and over again.
Do want to give you guys props on the visuals for the video though. Very good.

    • @george540

Calcio Mercato have been reporting Milan's pursuit of Balogun since November 2022. In FEB 2021 the Daily Cannon, an arsenal website, reposted or translate a Calcio Mercato article on Milan's interest. Its been years...
Also your description of Tonali's profile really doesnt live up when compared to match analysis. There is a difference between a Pirlo-esque operator and the destroyer Gattuso was.

    • @alexthornton9236
      @alexthornton9236 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I follow Milan news daily. There’s been no reputable sources reporting Balogun since the end of the season.
I’ve watched literally EVERY single Tonali game for Milan. He’s much more similar to Gattuso than he is to Pirlo. You’ll see when he plays in the prem, and you (and pvs) will feel silly.

Also, as a die hard fan after what has happened with Tonali and a part of the soul being ripped from the club.
But it’s really NOT as bad as you guys are making out. Really poor video. Usually a massive fan of this channel. Completely missed the mark here lads

Chukwueze, Leao and CDK would be a great attacking line if Pioli was a tiny bit flexible. CDK can easily play the role of Firmino while the other 2 for Mane and Salah. CDK has vision and can open-up so much space, but he has been really misused last season...

RLC has signed, Pulisic is about to complete, they need a CDM and a striker. I'd like to see club go for Ricci but if unattainable then Varela from Boca and Okafor (1 year left) as striker.

From what i'm reading around they are close to sign CM Tijjani Reijnders from AZ Alkmaar and very talented danish RW Gustav Isaksen from Midtjylland. For the ST position it looks like a race between Taremi and Morata. And of course there is still Daichi Kamada who I think will also join Milan since he already has agreed personal terms weeks ago.

The Gamble! The true definition of the current situation. But it's the only way to rival the top teams in Europe since we don't have the same budgets. So if Milan will find a few additional underrated talents for ~20M and let's say CDK goes back to his level (2nd season hope) - Milan might surprise everyone once more. On another hand CDK may fail another year, RLC and Pulisic may suffer injuries all the season with Bennacer till 2024 and it could be another story. But I believe)

A club that actually deserves Oil Money...if i was QATAR i would be going for AC Milan such an iconic Club like if they hadn't faced Financial troubles they would be realistically the only Club to challenge Real Madrid in Europe remember they had 7 already when Madrid had 10.
Ac Milan need to do what Brighton, Benfica and even Bayern do and stop signing rejects instead look for cheap Prospects with clear potential in places like West Africa and South America where you could easily find a Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez or Mane. They should follow what Atletico Madrid did, look at them now they even built a mega mordern stadium.

I think many people here, just like me, admired and celebrated AC Milan with the big names and legends like Maldini, Kaka, Seedorf, Nesta, Cafu...
After 15 years, even if it is extremely painful to write and say it, you have to label her as average.
There is also a lack of imagination as to how they will become attractive to world-class players and superstars again, how they will become the great AC Milan again in the next few years.
Meanwhile I don't know if they're just sleeping or actually already dead?.😭💔
You look at AC Milan's squad and you only find average players, former bench players from Chelsea, Liverpool, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, who couldn't break through there.

If we signed chukwise and maybe a striker even a young one next to giroud it will be considered a good transfer window despite tonali leaving but considering the club position i think we're better now than the last couple of seasons we have a solid defence and a keeper (we struggle with substitute players especially full backs and the keeper but at least the main players are good and had potential) and if the new signings performs well the midfield and wings are better 2 (depends on loftus cheek and pulisic performance and if we could sign chukwise who would transform our attack completely with leao) so the team isn't perfect far from it but it's good and for the first time in years we have a good base to build on especially if kamada and de ketlare performs as expected we had good players everywhere and with 2 or 3 good signings next year we could be actually in the right direction to begin regaining our past glory
Theoretically the best team we had in like 10 years and hope we continue with the good signing and hope the new players to reach their potential

It is just amazing that they have completely ignored the crap owners as a factor in last season decline. Half the reason for the poor results last season was the lack of goals yeah maldini signed origi but he didn't have the budget go get the centre forward Milan needed. Milan had 50 million to try and get a top centre forward, right winger and creative midfield player surely it is obvious that was unacheivable. It is was ridiculous Milan mid season needed signings yet the owner refused to increase the budget even a signing like zaniolo was overlooked at the very most that would have been a 40 million deal including wages and fee, what is the cost of missing out on the champions League 30 million basically recovering the majority of the cost of signing zaniolo.
They seem to think they can make money out of Milan without understanding anything about football or Italian football. Unless there legacy is a new stadium they might as well not own Milan because nothing positive will be gained by their ownership

Milan just like any other Serie A clubs are in financial crisis. Tonali never wanted to leave Milan but had to for FFP and some of the signings and players weren't great. Tomori was shocking for most of the games, Maignan was injured along with Zlatan, CDK and Origi were dreadful when they joined. At least Malick had a solid season. They barely made Champions League football due to Juventus got points deduction. Silvio Pioli?! Maybe you would have wanted to mention Silvio Berlusconi by contrast, but you're referring to the current Ac Milan's Coach, whose name is STEFANO PIOLI!!!

Thiaw and Tonali were some of the best players for Milan but you don't rate them because their stats are shit 😂 also Stefano Pioli not Silvio.. dunno if you're thinking of Berlusconi or Silvio Piola but that's not our coach

Going quite american, with Pulisic, Balogun and Yunus Musah! Why not Tyler Adams too, while you're at it? 😁🇺🇲

I think from a Chelsea pov that Pulisic is unbelievebly talented and very overhated at his time at Chelsea, but I don’t feel Milan’s the right move it’s a great club but I’m not sure Pulisic is a RW player he hasn’t rlly got the speed for it he’s best playing leao’s position, although it does mean if leao were to lead they have a perfect replacement I think a RW is more of a need (i.e., Chukwueze, N. Williams, Kudus)

Holdup... did you just say pulisic doesn't have speed? Are you high? Speed and dribbling ability are what pulisic is known for

    • @am-vw2qk

@@richardgrace5043 he’s not slow but he’s definitely slower after all his injuries, also right footed players who aren’t particularly quick have never typically worked over the last couple years especially if they don’t have any star qualities abt them which I wouldn’t say Pulisic has, also pulisic’s best qualities are more progressing with ok final third output I just think for Milan they could do better on the right

Their scouting team is not doing a gd job, they dont find gems anymore like dortmund and napoli do. Signing pulisic is weird when you know hes shit

Shit? Without him and giroud chelsea doesn't make top 4 a few years ago, without him they don't beat real madrid in the champions league semi final 2yrs ago, without him they don't score a single goal against arsenal in the FA cup final a few years ago (unfortunately he pulled his hamstring going for his second goal of the game and once he went down chelsea just fell apart that game)

Milan have one of the great chief scout in the business... Moncada was former Monaco scout who built that famous 2017 squad including mbappe ... It's just Milan owner is broke and more than that serie a is broke... Pl clubs can get more money just by tv rights and stadium revenue
