      Could you do a video on bunion surgery and recovery? I am considering getting surgery in the next year or so. Also at the moment I'm having trouble keeping up with heel raises due to bunion pain, is there any other way that might still train the bunion or Achilles

    So much information in this video. This channel is simply one of the best out there when it comes to interpreting, understanding and applying research while still communicating it simply and effectively to the public. Great job with this one Marc!

    Great information thanks! I am surprised you did not mention muscle fiber type though. Since the soleus muscle is composed of mostly slow twitch muscle fibers, it is resistant to fatigue, therefore could benefit from higher repetition range (at lower weight) when performed with the knee flexed.

    • @E3Rehab
      @E3Rehab  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Can definitely be helpful to work in a variety of rep ranges!

    hi love the video! Does the toe direction(out/neutral/in) matter when training calves? or is it just a myth backed by no research?

    • @E3Rehab
      @E3Rehab  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is some research to say that rotating the foot does have a minor impact on the heads of the gastroc, but it's not a major thing to worry about.

    So for people with small calves who want to grow them you would recommend working more on the soleus for calves size?

    Could you give more information about your 4th point, the acl. I've had my second acl injury and will have surgery within a month.

    • @E3Rehab
      @E3Rehab  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's important to include calf strengthening into a rehabilitation program for a variety of reasons post op ACLR, but the soleus may have a protective role, similar to the hamstrings, during dynamic movements.

  • @fox8427

    Awesome video! Out of curiosity would you also recommend doing some extent of resisted dorsiflexion to strengthen the tibialis anterior?

    • @E3Rehab
      @E3Rehab  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You definitely can, but it likely doesn't have quite as many benefits as training the calf unless you're dealing with anterior shin splints or other related issues.

    Would 8 sets of straight and 4 sets of bent per week for a few months at time then switching to the reverse of 8 sets of bent and 4 sets of straight per week for the next few months work well?
    I'm currently been doing 8-12 sets with a straight knee for a while and never done any seated versions so I don't want to over risk over training my calves. Do you think the average person could recover from 16 sets of calves per week 8 standing 8 seated?

    Does calf raising help to lose fat at the calves?

  • @steveng5370
    @steveng5370 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Regarding the programming, if I wanted to progress from beginners, would I progress into doing the exercises on more days in the week? The last line "eventually, if needed, you can work up to 12-15 sets over the course of 3 days with a day of rest in between." confuses me, does that mean in a week, I still only work on calves 2 times a week even if i've progressed far?

    • @E3Rehab
      @E3Rehab  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi, Steve. It means you can work up to 4-5 sets of calves per workout, 3 days per week. For example, 4 sets on Monday, 4 sets on Wednesday, and 4 sets on Friday (1 day of rest between each day).

    • @steveng5370

      @@E3Rehab How would i program the straight knee and bent knee variations in the week? Using the example above, wouldn't that result in doing a variation 2 times a week leaving the other only 1 time a week? Or can i do each variation 3x a week just on differnt days? (monday-straight knee, tuesday-bent knee, wed-straight, thur-bent,fri-straight etc)
