Stephen Stills will never get the proper credit he deserves for his amazing guitar skills! I think he's thought of as a composer first, but he could hold his own with ANY guitar player!
Rhythm guitarist is called Kralle Krawinkel. He used to be the guitarist of german new wave/ comedy act "Trio" . An outstanding guitarist himself, in the seventies he played in a couple of kraut-rock bands.
I love how his guitar solo is like riding in a corvette convertible cruising down a desert highway after a good week man. God that was fantastic and so emotional...
Kann mich daran erinnern.Wurde damals als grottenschlechter Auftritt bezeichnet- in der Zeit in der im Radio nur noch NDW runtergenudelt wurde! Trucky.
I saw this on TV 30 years ago and it stayed present in my mind because of this (almost) solo gig from Stephen. I'm really happy to find this here. thx a l ot
In 1983, I had a super foxy, high-class girlfriend who took me to an trendy little restaurant in Sherman Oaks in the Valley of Los Angeles county. Stills was there at the bar with his buddy, the lead singer for Reo Speedwagon, Kevin Cronin. Kevin decided to move to our table and launch a campaign to steal my date- relentlessly and Stephen beer in hand, danced a jig behind him- laughing and in his own world. An image that will stay with me, is watching his worn yet beautiful cowboy boots shuffle on the wooden floor. Kevin tried his best and he seemed the quintessential English gentleman with huge hair and he was very sly and cunning with his approach-but to no avail. I wish I would have had a beer with Stephen.
Nope, they grew up listening 'schlager'. It's quite common in Central and Northern Europe that audiences usually try to clap hands on 1 and 3, they don't know what is a backbeat.
OK Dexter, I respect your opinion and, at times, I've felt the same way, but you have to put yourself in the year 1972, before AIDS, herpes, and all the rest of the resultant gross aftermath of the sexual revolution.
The song was released in 1970 when the sexual revolution was blooming, and also featured background vocals from other artists, such as Cass Elliot and Ringo Starr. It was from his first self-titled solo album "Stephen Stills" (with the picture of him in the snow playing his guitar and a toy giraffe beside him). Check out other songs from the album, such as Cherokee, Old Times, Good Times (Jimi Hendrix on guitar), Go Back Home, Church (Part of Someone), Sit Yourself Down, etc. All classics.
@@tammylewis2408 I was born 1951, in the middle of this "revolution". Men may had the best times of their life. But for us women, it was the opposite ...
Ok. If you walked into a bar or coffee house and the singer sounded like that, would you stay? I sure as hell wouldn’t. It’s a terrible rendition, but because it’s actually Stephen Stills singing it’s “great”…..
It's all about the heart and soul!!! The heart wants what the heart wants, as the saying goes. Many singer-songwriters from the 60s and 70s had hearts and souls and wrote from that place. Stephen, Joni Mitchell, James Taylor, Gordon Lightfoot (who just passed away as of May 1, 2023), Jim Croce, John Denver, Harry Chapin, Dan Fogelberg, Stevie Nicks, and countless others were a part of that era were not afraid to express their feelings thru songwriting. For example, the Gordon Lightfoot song "Sundown" has a backstory involving Gordon and an infamous former girlfriend: th-cam.com/video/9tM_y4Dwk0I/w-d-xo.html
Ruhe in Frieden, Kralle! Was für eine Ehre für Stephen Stills, daß er mit Dir auftreten durfte.

I agree 10,000%!! HE IS SIMPLY "DAS BESTE"!!

This is absolutely awesome. Damn, the way this song builds... sublime. Stills is the man.
He was the BEST then, and he's still (no pun) the BEST now!!
BOOM! Stephen Stills is the man!
First big hit post Buffalo Springfield. Guy is a genius. Thanks - I don't think the audience knew to whom they were listening.

The pain of losing Judy Collins never went away.
But she wrote a terrific song for him, "Houses"
amazing sounds.... anyone know what he is using to get the sounds?
CLC077 A Telecaster, little bit of delay and most importantly: his hands and his head and his soul.
Yes, star power in un-measurable I guess...Jess

When John Lennon was shot I crawled into a bottle of scotch and didn’t come out for 10 years. Stephen Stills
notice the krauts don't start clapping till the german dude starts playing.
Yes, because the audience got a sign when they should start to clap.
Ist das Kralle ?????
The most disgusting Song he'd ever written.
When I love, it goes so Deep, i would never be able to sleep with a stranger.

Hey das deutsches Fernsehen , get Germananized egal
These might be Swabians.... Zzzzz
Do these Germans know anything about keeping beat
Never liked the logic of this song. You can't command an emotion. So why try? You are fooling yourself, Mr. Stills.
@@bobeichelberg7715 Prove it, silly. Back up your claim.

@@tammylewis2408 That had nothing to do with my comment, so why answer with that sermon? Avoid non sequiturs.
He really sounds terrible. Funny how studios can misrepresent an artists talents. Jess...
