      lol soldering irons a $5 in the bargain basket at most autoparts stores where I live.

      $1.50 at most dollar stores. i think theyre 25W... questionable quality, though... but i bet its much better and safer than this homemade one. i think harbor freights have some for $3, marginally better. decent ones are $20 or so, and professional for around $80 :D you get what you pay for, after all

      sadly wood burns at 451 Farenheit degrees, or 232 Celsius, according to Argonne National Laboratory.
      So you must take extreme care of thermal isolation of the handle, if you want it to stand the tip heating ;-)

    I have 1 question.soon after you connected the 2wire is it possible that you can used it rightaway ,if we look at in this video it work like a charm,as i know it'll took time to burn the iron but in this case how long i mean minutes..?!because my own DIY solder that I made don't turn out very good..probley the hotness isn't right..:'(:-\

    someone down there in the comment asked how many turns of the Nichrome wire.. and wanted to ask you the same thing.. please kindly tell me how many turns.. or just let me know how many ohms do i need of the high resistant wire(Nichrome), so that i can do the calculation..! And i intent to install a push button or a spst switch depending on the heating time..
    Its a great video but lack of descriptions (Please don't feel offended) compared to your others diy videos..!
    Thank you very much for this great video.

    I am going to make a 6v soldering iron using 750w heater element. Hope it works.

    • @alaaj99
      @alaaj99 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've used a 750 watt wire (1mm thick I guess) with a 12v 7amps battery and it was a disaster, I tried 5cm, the wire over heated and burned (cut), tried 10cm,it worked but (just a waste of energy). I think the nichrome wire should be no more 0.5mm thick or less. Sadly for me l couldn't find thinner than 1mm.

      +Alaa Jannoud Hi Guys,
      Will it work if I'm gonna attach two separate "Nichrome Wire" to make a Longer of it for higher Volt taking? I know that the ratio is 1 inch Nichrome Wire is to 1 Volt (1 in. NW / 1 Volt). Would that be possible to do? Or I should use a much long "Intact Nichrome Wire?" Please enlighten me guys!
      Thanks!

      The tip will blow up if you try. You should only use it with a battery. For own protection against electrocution (in case something goes wrong) and also because the higher voltage will destroy the mini soldering iron. It's not meant to withstand more than the recommended 12 v.

      On most freezers some defrost with coils . Like electric heaters it's in a glas tube about a 1/4 inch thick depending on freezer you can get 2or 6 tubes of it. Anything that heats up. No radiation heaters. Look around someone always tosses one of those electronic heaters with the rack flam I always get some there 10 feet give or take from smaller ones
