    Dear Hikaru,
I am Yagiz's financial sponsor and part of his team, and I want to thank you wholeheartedly for coming to his defense publicly.
Yagiz is indeed a rare super-talent. He just played 2 GM level classical tournaments in Spain (back to back) and performed ca. 2580 in the first one and 2600+ in the other one and earned his first GM norm at the age of 12.
Turkey has never had a super-GM and we are hoping that Yagiz will be the first one in a few years. We again thank you for your moral support.
    All the best.

The worst part isn’t the accusations. It’s that Kramnik thinks he can say whatever he wants because he is a former world champion and the chess world has to respect him and accept what he says. Somebody has to remind him that he is not the center of the universe. He can be severely sanctioned for his false accusations, which is and should be a crime. If I publicly say that you stole from me just because I don’t like you, there will be consequences. In Kramnik’s case, the person isn’t even an adult. It’s so crazy. To think that a player with 3000+ elo on the platform isn’t being checked is also ridiculous. At this point, I believe Kramnik should get some help. This doesn’t look like a healthy behavior.

For the kid, Kramnik says he is either a super special talent or a cheater. This is true. There can’t be another explanation. But the fact is that he is a talent. Magnus is also either a genius or a cheater. You can say this for any hyper-performing player, or even LeBron or Messi.

The people accusing him did the math and released a multipage report showing the math that proved his drop rate was somewhere in the league of 1 in a Trillion chance of happening.
If Kramnik wants to use statistics to accuse, insinuate, imply, etc., that people are cheating he needs to nut up and do the math. Not make vague statements ultimately prove nothing. And yes, pointing to someone's record and saying it "looks interesting" is essentially accusing them of cheating. You're implying there's something wrong with their record or it's not legit. There are many perspectives on mathematical models to fo statistical analysis. Most are academic models and insufficient for real world use. A proper real world model is quite practically complex to implement and computationally expensive. So Kramnik probably can cherry pick a model which suits his version reality. In fact ELO by being a comparative system with various parameters with caps in single game point changes, along with subtleties in small samples at specific time controls, is very much tricky for even research mathematicians to model correctly. Which is why Ken Regan has a conservative model as you have to error on the side of certainty. But Kramnik failed to realize much of this and is using models which neglect an abundance of parameters and could be used to show basically any player who is successful is suspicious

i totally understand the mindset of being paranoid against cheaters, and i totally think that ALL top players should constantly be watched and "investigated" for cheating, thats the only way to stop it. BUT- kramnik HAS to be able to admit when hes wrong, or atleast admit that he shouldnt have accused specific people without PROPER evidence. because whatever evidence he brought forth has already been disproven by many people including mathematicians and statisticians- i mean you gotta be able to say "hey, maybe i came about this all wrong- im still on the watch for cheating in chess because i love this game BUT the way i started this witch hunt was just wrong, and im sorry" boom thats all he gotta say. sure some people will dog him for admitting hes wrong but it takes a man to admit their wrong doings, its a coward that continues to argue and fight over issues that have already been proven false; just because their ego wont let them admit any wrong doing.

And if he’s too concerned about his reputation to do that, there are still other ways for him to save face. Just lay down an explicit line (say, if someone shows him a mathematical review of his statistics where a specific player is concerned), then walk his statements back if the condition is met. It gives him a way to back out without seeming like he’s caving to pressure.

What's sad is the potential additional harm that could come from this. Kramnik is a chess god to some and they could take it upon themselves to follow what they perceive Kramnik is telling them to do. Be it harass the kid online, go to his matches, or worse. And while I think Kramnik has become mentally deficient, I don't think his goal is to get this kid mentally or physically harmed -- but if it happens, it's on him. Anyone with elevated social status needs to understand their words carry far more weight and some might interpret them as a call to action.

If you are a strong chess player and you cheat even for only one move, or any kind of evaluation, makes a huge difference.

GM Kramnik is not a boomer. He was born in 1975. The boomer birth period is between mid 1946 and mid 1964 as stated by the US Census Bureau. Kramnik is from Generation X. Mental decline can happen at any age. I am 65 years old and I am a baby boomer. Many baby boomers are mentally sharp. I teach for a living (computer information systems and business administration) and I play chess as a past time. I look at the individual rather than trying to paint with a broad brush that everyone in a particular age group has the same characteristics.
I have learned not to pigeonhole people. Some of my students like to think that the advice I give them is out of touch and say OK, Boomer until they have to come back and admit I was correct. The point is to keep learning and understand what is no longer valid and what is. But that can happen at any age.
