1080p at 5 inches. "Yes, it could be a bit sharper." 1080p at 5 inches is sharp as hell. What are you talking about? That's 448 PPI for crying out loud. 1440p is really not needed at that size.
Anthony Williamson Pixel density certainly has a factor in determining sharpness, but as I've already said, THATS NOT EVERYTHING. Sharpness also derives from color variety and shade acuity. Both of which are irrelevant to PPI.
Austin kinda overblowing the screen issue on the XL in my opinion. And unlike 99% of the haters in the comments on actually OWN the phone. So I can tell you the blue shift isn't THAT bad and you have to GO OUT OF YOUR WAY to notice it. And until Google pushes their software update giving more color options, just use Oreo Colorizer to get those rich colors back
He does make a valid point that if your paying 900 for a top tier phone then you should be getting a top tier phone if the price was like 600 dollars then I am sure Austin would overlook it
Go look at all the Long standing trusted TH-cam reviewers, they say the same thing. All the keyboard warriors who don't have the phone can have their opinions is totally fine. PS, I sold my old phone on Swappa for 230, plus got that T-Mobile $325 credit for bringing a Pixel....I think paying full price is crazy for all these phones lol
It's not that bad tbh. Google made a BAD move there though making LG (The worst manufacturers ever) actually make their larger phone. LG is crap and has WAY to many issues such as constant rebooting after one or two years. Even their display had quite a few issues.
The 2XL model has a larger degree of blue shift compared to rival phones. Some 2XLs are worse than others but it's still there. That's not justifiable from a top dollar flagship phone.
And to make matters worse, Samsung makes worlds best display's for Smartphones, ever. If even they are not perfect, just imagine the rest. The Pixel 2 XL is using an LG OLED which actually is pretty darn good. It's just that Google for some reason decided to ditch P3-color gamut (stock on Galaxy S6/S7/S8 but also on the iPhone 7 (Plus) / iPhone 8 (plus)) and they are sticking to SRGB. Due to that, the display looks too flat for many and whenever you share an image to another person, the other person will see the image with more color due to most recent flagships using P3-color gamut. Have you ever seen how worthless the display is on the iPhone 8? It's just rubbish IF you are used to any recent AMOLED panel (Galaxy S7 Edge/S8/Note 8). It's so dim, huge brightness shift and it's not properly calibrated (too cool, this increases brightness but makes the display look too blue (~7100K which is BAD, ~6450K is the standard). Imho, Austin bashed the Pixel 2 XL for the wrong reason. He did not mention the Pixel 2 XL having twice the battery life of an iPhone 8 Plus which MKBHD DID. MBKHD mentioned the ridicilously long lasting battery but Austin did not...hmmmm
after hearing all this stuff about pixel xl screen, i changed my pre order to pixel 2 and yes you are right if you gonna pay over 800 you better get best of everything. I don't change phones every year and pixel 2 will get 3 years of official android updates not just security patches and no other android company does that not even samsung so 700 including taxes for pixel 2 is worth it for me since i will end up using it for 3 years
I live in the USA, go to India every 2 years, and actually study history. Instead of asking me where I'm from, try doing some research first. The results may shock you.
Don't have to wait to see what they have to offer. Oppo's new R11s will be revealed on 2nd Nov and OP5t will be an exact replica(other than the processor) with the usual rubbish camera. And it will cost you $550 for the base variant with 64gb. Pixel 2 with 64gb costs $650.
Thank you! This is one of the only videos that I've seen that hasn't focussed entirely on the Pixel 2 XL. That phone is just too big for me and it is the only one that all the other channels talk about.
Finally someone focuses on the Pixel 2 instead of just the 2 XL! The screen sizes and aspect ratios make the devices very different. And now the 2 XL screen quality makes the difference even greater. Thank you Austin!
Depends on what you want and what you need out of it. Samsung flagships get MAX 3 major Android version updates, although that could change soon. This means that a Samsung flagship phone will be ideal to use for about five to six years (security updates continue even after Android version updates stop). Now, a shit ton of people think that the minute a version of Android is no longer the newest one it should belong in a dumpster fire, this is untrue, there are at leas a few more years left in that life cycle. No, this isn't iOS levels of updates but it is nice, plus there is the option of custom ROMs after support ends. Most $400 phones usually only see one Android version update, or sometimes none. OnePlus is good at support but Sony kills it in this department, aside from the old Google (Nexus). Nobody seems to remember OnePlus virtually abandoning the OnePlus X phone.
travpar0 I just got a really good offer from my carrier and decided to use that offer for a flagship device. I am a person who does not need or really want flagship level smartphone features but decided to get one and see what all the hype is about. It's alright so far, and that's what counts.
I feel like the original Pixel took away features that the cheaper-at-launch Nexus 6P did well such as the front-firing speakers and then added them to the Pixel 2 as "new" features so, that it will seem like an upgrade over the previous version. Don't get me wrong though, the 6P, Pixel and Pixel 2 are all great phones.
The later production models of the pixel 2 xl have for the most part, fixed a lot of the issues early models have had. Also, with the latest update use saturated mode on the XL 2 and then go into developer settings to enable sRGB. Doing this makes the display look wayyyyyyyy better
I was going to before I heard about all the issues. I was gonna get the normal size one, and thought the problems were only on XL, but now there are some problems with the standard.
I remember when this phone first came out, it was the best competitor to the iPhone in my opinion. The way the phone had its own software, messaging app just like iPhone. I just love it.
He didn't go nearly as hard as he did on this phone than on the iPhone X. I guess for Austin, animojis are the best feature for a flagship smartphone in 2017.
Just got my pixel 2 xl. At least on my model. The screen is not as bad as the press and TH-cam reviewers say it is. It's better looking than my iPhone 6 Plus screen and size is just perfect. Yes there is a blue tint if you tilt it but I don't use my phone sideways anyway. This is the snappiest phone I've ever used (snappier than my iPhone 6 Plus the day it came out) and the camera is beautiful! Well done! The screen viewing angle could be better but the way it is doesn't bother me as much as I thought.
pixel 2 will definitely be my next phone. everything is just fantastic. yeah the 18:9 on my s8 is great but the slightly less screen real estate isn't a deal breaker and the upgraded speakers compared to my s8 is a huge step up.
Respect your honesty about the 2XL screen. That blue shift, along with the potential burn-in and black smearing is unacceptable from a company of Google size. Hopefully next time Google source the XL screen to Samsung instead of LG.
As someone who prefers a smaller phone I am completely satisfied with the Pixel 2, screen looks great and I don't mind the lack of saturation really, I like the natural look
What's a game changer for me is, this is Google's second phone, I think they did alright, the only real issue is that tint, but that's not an issue of Google but LG Panels, (yes it should've been inspected better, they'll learn) Anything else I've heard is nit picking, plastic feel, headphone jack, wireless charging, you can't complain really when it's their second phone and they're trying to do a lot as it is. They'll get there eventually.
One plus 5 is still a one of the best phones out there. It even got one of the highest satisfaction rate from any phone including iphones. So i think if they go for a OP5T it will be well received. I don't see a reason not to get it assuming that it won't have any hardware issues like the pixel 2 is facing now. I make tech videos in my channel, if you have some free time please check it out i would really appreciate it.
Hmm let me think op5 has ripped off the design of iphone Cheated at benchmarks Stealing user info without their permission It still got a 1080p screen and it calls itself a flagship killer? Not so great speakers and an average camera. And the 5t is going to be a cousin brother of oppo and vivo phones. dont know why i should be excited about it.
Thank you austin for this honest review. Basically everyone else defending for it, with some outright circlejerking shilling it. 850 fucking USD?!!? Yeah that's bullshit. Bad screen and no headphone jack S8+ is 125USD less and V30 is 50USD less.
No mention of where that squeeze function originated. It's almost like all tech reviewers hate HTC but are so quick to bring up the S8, Note 8 or iPhone 8 in EVERY video.
have you got it? do you like it? should i buy it too? is it too big? does it get hot when opening cellular data and charged please tell me, if you have time, the disadvantages of the everyday use. simple stuff thank you.
The lack of a headphone jack isn't a small thing like most phone reviewers pretend. It's consumer fraud. I've been using pixel 2 for a year and it was way past the 14 day return period when I started using it and for the first time noticed lack of a headphone jack and expandable storage. This reminded me of high school when I was jamming a $20 Huawei that used micro usb headphones except the Huawei had expandable storage. Don't get me wrong the pixel runs well, and the camera is good if you wanna count ball hairs on a raccoon 2 yards away but I realized I never really needed a pro camera as much as A HEADPHONE JACK AND A FUCKING MICRO SD CARD SLOT. Fuck apple, fuck Google. Stop buying into their bullshit excuses for selling proprietary shit at inflated prices. Apple and Google are making a bullshit excuse about better sound quality that I'd totally buy into if I hadn't done sound production and paid 100 bucks for lost adapters. The only reason to replace the 3.5mm jack would be If we miraculously lost the ability to make 3.5mm jacks. In pro music production my buddy says he and all the industry's best engineers make sure to use midrange 20 dollar consumer headphones to mix the audio to make sure it's accessible to everyone. He said this in response to some hipster hifi nerd bragging about 2000 dollar headphones. I have alot of friends who are music producers, some I even play guitar for and they all agree that hifi nerds rave about shit that just doesn't exist. Removal of the headphone jack isn't any different. Its companies selling you a fantasy and frankly insulting your intelligence. As the idiom goes, let the buyer beware and let the fanboys be buttfucked. Jimi Hendrix sounds good because he makes good music. His music sounds as good on my ergofits as the iPhone earpods as the Bose wireless. I ripped my hendrix cds and put them on an 128 GB SD card I got for 30 bucks instead of paying 300 more to upgrade apple and honestly it sounds as good as Spotify plus I don't have to rely on internet for music. How is it that my old HTC M8, fuck it my old Galaxy s2 allows me to use any or all of these options. And Why in the fuck do I have pay a 1000 bucks for less choice. You guys can tell them companies to stop ripping you off by just letting your money talk and not getting the latest phone instead of defending your expensive purchases by arguing with strangers on the internet.
Best camera Best performance No bixby No touch wiz Yes Pixel launcher Yes apks, Yes compatibility Yes battery life Yes touch id Yes squeezable display Woohoo google lens
What do you mean by poor battery life. Go to channel of mr whose the boss and see battery life comparison, it thrashes of Samsung and apple, and is just 3 minutes less in life than one plus 5 that too when it was running at quad hd, and OnePlus 5 at fhd so in quad hd pixel would definatly defeat all others
I just switched from the Pixel Xl to the Pixel 2xl and I was really worried about the screen but I think it looks great! It feels a lot more comfortable to use the last year's. and I figure if an issue rises, it's under warranty =)
I've had the pixel 2 xl a little over a week, and I love it... Except for the screen. No issues with burn in though, so hopefully that's an isolated incident and not widespread. Keeping my fingers crossed.
Is 2017 worth it?
JakeTS not at all
Is 2017 worth it in 2018?
JakeTS still better than 2016
Lol
JakeTS has a point
1080p at 5 inches. "Yes, it could be a bit sharper."
1080p at 5 inches is sharp as hell. What are you talking about? That's 448 PPI for crying out loud. 1440p is really not needed at that size.
There's a difference nonetheless. And sharpness isn't always about PPI. This is an overpriced shit phone.
PPI is literally the measurement of how many pixels are in an inch so yes it does determine sharpness
Anthony Williamson Pixel density certainly has a factor in determining sharpness, but as I've already said, THATS NOT EVERYTHING. Sharpness also derives from color variety and shade acuity. Both of which are irrelevant to PPI.
For VR it is definitely needed.
Tomiply but Sony's native 4K on the XZ Premium, that looks fucking amazing
Austin kinda overblowing the screen issue on the XL in my opinion.

Adam Welsch it's $850 and the phone has over 16 million colors it can register, so unless ur watching ur phone sideways it looks fine
It's not that bad tbh. Google made a BAD move there though making LG (The worst manufacturers ever) actually make their larger phone. LG is crap and has WAY to many issues such as constant rebooting after one or two years. Even their display had quite a few issues.

When you get a Google Pixel 2 commercial on a Google Pixel 2 video...
Google these days
Killvuck exactly lol
What if someone was watching this video had a pixel 2?? Pixel2ception oooh
Killvuck I got a Galaxy note 8 commerial
On a google owned platform.
Google owns TH-cam too xD
One of the few honest reviewers left, keep it up great video!!
That opening shot itself got me! Evans...you rock!🔥🔥👌👌
So basically Pixel 2 is worth it but Pixel 2 XL is "GARBAGE TOWN"😝😂
Aarya Soni most reviewers haven't minded the blue shift. Samsung's green shift is far worse to my eyes
And to make matters worse, Samsung makes worlds best display's for Smartphones, ever. If even they are not perfect, just imagine the rest. All pixel phones are garbage town
Google is going to fix that screen color with a software update soon thankfully.
nice b8 m8
Is Austin Evans worth it. Why does Austin Evans exist in 2017?.
... Comments incoming
Because he can spell exist properly?
Roshin Nishad sniped 😂
Roshin Nishad lol
The color grading on this is so nice - I love the look of this video
after hearing all this stuff about pixel xl screen, i changed my pre order to pixel 2 and yes you are right if you gonna pay over 800 you better get best of everything. Grape-kun FeelsBadMan
Daldaren who the fuck is that
Austin guys this is hey
Finally an honest, to-the-point review of the Pixel 2. Great video as always, Austin!
you did a great job taking this review to a new angle. kudos!
use a usb killer on it
It would probably have pretty much the same results as the pixel
No mercy, kick it's ass.
Lol why? The older pixels couldn't handle USB killers? well, it's a cool video idea so yeah defintely go for it lol.
Nicholas Hoi EverythingApplePro.
Wrong channel buddy
His laugh made my day. lol!!!!!!!
That was actually cringe inducing
This pushes me to the edge.
it was pure evil....
"Hey guys this is Austin" is the reason North Korea launching missiles
It's also the reason why you have bad Grammar.
You shouldn't joke about this shit if your fucking country doesn't do any shit for the world. And this is coming from an Indian.
Terrible joke. Stupid comment.
Clorox Bleach from where the fuck you belong from
I live in the USA, go to India every 2 years, and actually study history. Instead of asking me where I'm from, try doing some research first. The results may shock you.
Not if you want a headphone jack...
Last year they made a really big deal about it. This year they made a big deal that they only had one back camera. Next year: Two cameras.
MrWuffles i mean they should stay consistent like lg and samsung. Lg even made it better to rub salt in the wound with the v30.
Just like how the iPhone 7 isn't worth it if you want a headphone jack
Shane Bryson just like people need to get over the note 7 incident
It actually comes with an adapter jack to USB
Austin get the damn Saved By The Bell haircut sorted!!
But honestly good job man and keep up the good work 🤙🏻
HTC really bombed it with the Pixel 2. It had bigger bezels than Pixel 1
Poor use of space
Chainsaw6432 But it has great Stereo speakers.
Kevin Velásquez so does my 7 plus and iPhone 8 and 10. So.........
Chainsaw6432 no, that's the reason we have the front facing stereo speakers, which are the best of the year.
Jaylen Bond and those all have big bezels to except for the 10. I like BIG bezels and I cannot lie...! 😎
With OnePlus 5t coming soon, I'd rather wait and see what they have to offer
Pranita Kakde they offer you the chance to steal all of your information
Pranita Kakde one plus who?
Ricky C137 I'm also waiting for 5t and can't really be beat I don't care about my info if the monitor GPu usage or any optimization
1+5 Xi zinping edition?
Wow, the Pixel 2 XL is really something!
Is Austin's Channel worth it? probably not I'm unsubscribing
Just kidding 😂!

Soberanis Fam same

Aaron Glisson hahaha so funny...
Is Austin Evans worth it?
Yaf nah capitalist pigs are worthless
I rather get rid of money
Literally about to write the same comment
Dude I asked myself that while I was opening this video
Yaf overused af
Hey Austin! This is Guys!
Austin: Pixel and iPhone 8 have the best speakers.
Razer Phone: Hold my fucking beer
Tech Pro Kollin “plays Earrape, the whole city is leveled”
O O F
I love my standard Pixel 2!!! It's good to finally hear a positive review of the standard Pixel 2. It seems like everyone is only focused on the XL.
Is any smartphone that costs more than $400 worth it?
Asado no

travpar0 I just got a really good offer from my carrier and decided to use that offer for a flagship device. I am a person who does not need or really want flagship level smartphone features but decided to get one and see what all the hype is about. It's alright so far, and that's what counts.
Asado Pixel now 380$
"Hey guys, I'm late to the review party"
Better late and thorough than soon and misleading.
Great clear and honest video that I fully agree with!. Thank you ;-)

The problem is, if you're spending $900 on a fucking phone, you shouldn't have to do ANY of that.
@Austin, iPhone 8 does not have A10X, it has A11 bionic
I was gonna get the Google pixel untill I saw that it had no headphone jack...
I think display issues are more concerning now. Yeah but jack always matter lol.
I was going to before I heard about all the issues. I was gonna get the normal size one, and thought the problems were only on XL, but now there are some problems with the standard.
Hey Austin this is guys.
Is Austin Evans worth it in 2017 👍
Diwakar 365 nope
This is old
hey, thanks for reviewing the normal pixel 2! everyone seems to be using the pixel 2 XL even though im considering the smaller variant..
I remember when this phone first came out, it was the best competitor to the iPhone in my opinion. The way the phone had its own software, messaging app just like iPhone. I just love it.
Got an ad for google pixel 2 when clicking on this video
I can see the penguin wifu :))
Cuong Nguyen was waiting for someone to notice that
My money's on that was Ken's doing lol
“This, is the Pixel 2 XL, And this, Is my check from Google!”
The best review on pixels. No sucking up to Google bs. Totally honest review man... Nailed it
I don't watch this channel very often, and OMG what is this cute miniature old TV in the background??? I want it...
Pixel 2 XL looks like a LG V30.
BonziVids It was manufactured by LG so it's to be expected.
Except nowhere near as good
BonziVids it's a rebadge
And have the same shit screen
Hmm.. I wonder why?
RIP Grape-kun
Is removing a headphone jack in 2017 worth it
Been thinking about switching to the Pixel 2. This video actually helped me.
He didn't go nearly as hard as he did on this phone than on the iPhone X. I guess for Austin, animojis are the best feature for a flagship smartphone in 2017.
And people say apple is over priced!
No, people say iShit is overpriced
OZAMA apple is one company. And android well...there is a lot of them A LOT!
OZAMA
All of the are
China master race
Apple is overpriced.. so is google pixel
Yes, they do.
Hey Guys, Im reading off a script
this is obviously your first time on youtube
no headphone jack, no purchase.
gOOD, NO ONE cares :P, no headphone jack is future, they are not shithead, what apple did you guys made fun,but that's reality
Austin, I appreciate the honest review. Thank you!
Is living worth it?
No
Aleksandar Kovanovic Damn
Juanma patron12 no
let me know in the comments below and I'll catch you in the next one
Steven Warren it was just what i needed im going to get the knife right now.
Google would of killed this Guy if he said no
About sRGB
Isn't the smaller one also using that gamut by default? If so, it reinforces my thoughts that a number of 2 XLs have defective panels.
D13H4RD2L1V3 lg is to blame.
pixel 2 will definitely be my next phone. everything is just fantastic. yeah the 18:9 on my s8 is great but the slightly less screen real estate isn't a deal breaker and the upgraded speakers compared to my s8 is a huge step up.
Respect your honesty about the 2XL screen. That blue shift, along with the potential burn-in and black smearing is unacceptable from a company of Google size. Hopefully next time Google source the XL screen to Samsung instead of LG.
Hey guys its Exhausting :)
austin evens is my favourite anime
Nice bro keep it up
As someone who prefers a smaller phone I am completely satisfied with the Pixel 2, screen looks great and I don't mind the lack of saturation really, I like the natural look
I thought I was watching a really nice Korean TH-camr's review because of the food photos LOL
I'm watching this on the Google pixel 2
sam dig is it worth it?
How much did it cost you and how much will it cost now?
I got a google pixel 2 ad on this video
Nice
I am Lost in the sea of comments. Pls help
Wife and I both have Pixel 2 5", absolutely stunning phones and have no regrets going for the "smaller" phone.
one plus 5t is comming!!!!!
GADGETORIALS t for ticket to die
TrollBlockable a really bad one
gonna be one heck of a phone.
One plus 5 is still a one of the best phones out there. It even got one of the highest satisfaction rate from any phone including iphones. So i think if they go for a OP5T it will be well received. I make tech videos in my channel, if you have some free time please check it out i would really appreciate it.
Hmm let me think op5 has ripped off the design of iphone
Cheated at benchmarks
Stealing user info without their permission
It still got a 1080p screen and it calls itself a flagship killer?
Not so great speakers and an average camera.
And the 5t is going to be a cousin brother of oppo and vivo phones. dont know why i should be excited about it.
GRAPE-KUN! T-T
What do you mean squeezable frame?
You can squeeze any frame
Thank you austin for this honest review. Basically everyone else defending for it, with some outright circlejerking shilling it.
850 fucking USD?!!? Yeah that's bullshit. Bad screen and no headphone jack S8+ is 125USD less and V30 is 50USD less.
No mention of where that squeeze function originated. It's almost like all tech reviewers hate HTC but are so quick to bring up the S8, Note 8 or iPhone 8 in EVERY video.
I have Big doubt why they are Removing Headphone Jacks?its a trend
Pixel 2 Xl doesn't have 6 inch AMOLED display. It has a 6 inch POLED display made by LG. And the display is not that bad. It's a good 538 PPI display.
Debanjan Chowdhury but its not 2017 standard. Lg is so good at tv panels but bad at phone panels.
Good video, might just grab the pixel 2 instead of the XL. Question does the screen have issues or is that a XL only thing.
When every youtuber is talking about just the pixel 2 xl and here comes Austin who says the pixel 2 is worth it... Awesome dude
Is life worth it?
Austiun the iphone 8 and 8 plus have the apple a11 bionic chip not a10x
Hay guys, this is Austin
have you got it?
do you like it?
should i buy it too?
is it too big?
does it get hot when opening cellular data and charged
please tell me, if you have time, the disadvantages of the everyday use. simple stuff
thank you.
The production quality is INSANE.

Worth doesn't need a proof, of course the best

What do you mean by poor battery life. Go to channel of mr whose the boss and see battery life comparison, it thrashes of Samsung and apple, and is just 3 minutes less in life than one plus 5 that too when it was running at quad hd, and OnePlus 5 at fhd so in quad hd pixel would definatly defeat all others
Also for stereo front firing speakers slightly bigger bezels aren't bad
Those bezels make me feel sick.

OnePlus 5T for me
$350 dollar phone just good for camera vs huawei mate 10 pro like this if you think huawei mate 10 pro is better
