You don't know what you're talking about. All engine options had a timing belt. This timing belt needed changing every 60k/5yr. A lot of high schoolers who own these cars now don't do basic maintenance and these belts snap after extended use and abuse. I wouldn't blame the design more so than I would blame the poor owners.
These were such good cars. I have two one of which is at 250k miles.
If I could go back in time I would buy one new.

The 2.7 v6 is solid. Just change the timing belt every 60k miles and it’s fine.
