    As an older phone user. I never had a smartphone to start with. My train ride to London took us through some of the most beautiful parts of the English countryside. I seemed to be the only passenger enjoying the fantastic views, as most people were looking at a smartphone screen.

      I am 76 with a smartphone but only use it when I need to, so I agree with you.

      Well said AND the fact that you were enjoying the beautiful countryside and not your cellphone is extremely important for mental health in my opinion.

    Now you're living a better life than THEY are. I have not had a cell phone of ANY kind for 14 years. I threw my old cell phone away and installed a land line with an answering machine. It's been great ever since. I got rid of my TV as well 14 years ago and I don't have any other electronics except a laptop... which I use for study purposes and research. Right now I'm doing research for a paper on people getting rid of their cell phones.

    I noticed that the pros were about your LIFE and the cons were about technological inconveniences. I also have made the same switch. And after three years I can assure you that I will NEVER go back!

    I don’t use a flip phone, but i use the first gen iPhone SE(which was made 6 years ago) because i really don’t need, or want a super high tech device. I don’t have any social medias on it , i have some essential school apps, an app where you can read books, and 3 games. I’m very happy with it even though people make fun of me.

    i absolutely love this video and honestly might switch back to a flip phone too. i used to have a flip phone but switched to a smartphone because i felt weird having a flip phone, but honestly life was soooo much more enjoyable when i didnt have to have the distractions of a smartphone. thanks for an enjoyable watch!

    Omg I'm so glad this vid came up on my recommended!! I've recently switched from my regular smart phone to a flip phone. Honestly I've been doing a lot more reading, studying, things I enjoy and not wasting my time on things that don't matter!! Also if you would like a flip phone with more options i would recommend the nokia 2720 flip (something like that) it has wifi Bluetooth and even a music app were you can download your music to mp3 :)) also I'm v happy that you're making this positive change to your life, and the best of luck :))

    In the past 10 years, I have had 3 smart iphones, and I keep going back to the flip phone. It gives me peace of mind. All I do is text and talk, and of course I have my laptop for internet and other stuff.

    As an older phone user, those pictures you took looked like the pretty stock photos that used to come with old flip phones (to use as a background and such), so it had an incredibly nostalgic look to me :) I think they have their charm

    I'm planning to buy a flip phone once I have enough money to buy it. only need to work like a month or something to get it I think and by that I mean only working on the weekend haha .Can't wait to get one .So ,I can focus more on my life and not get addicted to my smartphone .I'm gonna use my smarphone for work related stuff only after I buy the flip phone .

  • @hassadah

    I also decided to give up my smart phone. I got a cheap brick phone with whatsapp texting. The volume on that phone was so bad that I could not hear people over the phone. Now I’m waiting for a better Flip Phone to arrive. It has whatsapp video calls and 4G. That’s about all I need.
    I feel that everything else pretty much has a work around. I can always look up bus times on my laptop before leaving, I can check my bank on my laptop, I can look up google maps before going somewhere and ask for directions, or get a paper map. I like the slow texting, discourages me from texting too much. If I need to text so much then I’m better off calling the person or meeting up with them.
    I tried deleting apps on my smartphone but always ended up downloading them again. I always found a way to override the time restrictions on apps. I’m really enjoying the freedom from my smartphone. I still keep checking my dumb phone expecting to see some notifications, but usually there is nothing except maybe a text on whatsapp from time to time.

      Ask for paper copies of bills . Phone the number on the letter to pay. Take the bills to the bank if uk , not sure about other countries. There are ways around everything, and choices to do things differently

    Nothing wrong with smart phones. As long as you keep everything in moderation.

    • @farraelena4570
      @farraelena4570 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. The problem is not the smartphone itself, it's us.

    • @hamingnu6610
      @hamingnu6610 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yeah. Until the smartphone fails a person on a case-by-case basis. Whenever someone switches to a dumbphone why does there have to be someone going "It's all about the discipline. It's not the smartphone". Yeah, sure. Until it's the smartphone that's creating the net negative environment for the person. If they literally do not need a smartphone anymore, why bother asking them to keep it? That's all I'm saying.
      But yes. For more regular people who already have smartphones but see themselves becoming addicted and such, moderation is key and just blindly switching phones is only going to do more harm than good if they don't do it right. But of course at some point if you do - do it right, you moderate so well that you literally don't need a smartphone anymore and that's alright as well.

      The lure of the smartphone was too much . But I’ll bet you felt much better when you didn’t have a smartphone. It doesn’t take long to get sucked in by a smartphone

  • @MrBobWareham

    Keep your smartphone, just learn to master it, not let it master you!!
