    Quality work as always. I used to shoot sport years ago for a paper or two plus a picture agency.Nikon FM2'S and a few prime lenses.The kit has made things easier in someways ..like changing iso on the fly instead of changing a film or deciding how much to push process the film.What has not changed is having a eye and instinct for a photo.You definitely have both Mark.

    I am both a steward and a photographer back in Norway and I always keep in mind to watch out for any photographers and if they have any issues during a match to make sure your day dont get ruined as you say, you're there to do a job and worst thing i know is HighWiz jackets or ballboys ruining the photos that you need. Keep it up and good job.

    Totally understand your frustration and annoyance. Happens frequently here, but I do make a point now when I arrive at a ground to tell the ball boys to keep behind us at all times. Stewards tend to be an issue at the end of the games when they walk unto the pitch to face the supporters. My biggest problem is subs warming up and then standing in front of you to watch the play. Grr

    I do motorsport and I’ll always wait or walk behind any spectators taking pictures as they’re there to enjoy their day too. It’s just manners and being courteous.

      I only do grass roots football, so I can wander about wherever I like, but I stay outside the pitch barrier and I always walk behind the seating areas when I shift position. People are there to see the game, not my back.

    Not to get the lad into bother but you can report it to the ball boy supervisor. I saw this at PL match once, the bb jumped up at a goal and got himself in the way and then I saw the photographer mention it to the supervisor when they walked around and they had a word with the kid. Or just print a large photo of the away team badge and when you see the kid pat him on the back and wish him a good game as you stick the sign on his back.

    Was at the Etihad (in stands) to see City Wolves. Early on, photographer asked ball boy if he could move cone with ball on it. It was getting in his way from the end of the trench. Ball boy obliged. Professional.

    You did right Mark having a word with the little git as you say. The difference these days is that they don’t show any respect and don’t understand your income depends on getting the images. You should’ve tripped him up on the way past 😏

    Did you talk to the Club Admin. about the kid?
    Also your interaction with other shooters is great. Here in Vancouver it's a small group and everyone is afraid that someone will pinch their jobs if you so much as say hello.

    I have had ball boys dancing and celebrating, a male cheerleader thrusting right in front of me, and at one game when they had paddling pools cause it’s like 40°c kids bomb in them during an attack!

      Nah, it’s the education that’s at fault. Yes totally understand he wants a piece of it, but he’s there to do a job, not as a fan! He should be briefed on what he can and can’t do. I’ve highlighted it because it happens far too often unfortunately

      @@MarkKerton fair enough, I’ve been a ball boy and a steward at my club as a teen and it’s hard not too get emotional and join in especially with a lot at stake.

      @@cowanphotograf We get there at 11:30-12 for a 3pm ko. Choose the position we think will work best. Then, in the height of the action, with only seconds to capture “that” moment AND the desk waiting to receive “the” image, you have to tell them we didn’t capture “the” shot because of a ball boy/girl in high viz! It’s infuriating!

    I notice in your EXIF data that your exposure compensation changes regularly. Do you run auto iso and then consistently run exposure comp up and down depending on backlight etc?

    • @MarkKerton

      Good spot. Yep, I’m in auto iso and adjust exp to suit. Always shot like it and feel in control best with this method👍🏻

    Getting blocked by people is so frustrating! I was covering Worthing RunFest at the weekend and as it's held on public roads I had plenty of people walk in front of my location (despite me being in hiviz and not exactly subtle!). Most were very apologetic and moved out of the way quickly, but one chap stopped dead in front of me despite looking straight at me. I called out to him and eventually got his attention (had to get quite loud!) and asked him to move and he gave me an earful and told me to wind my neck in! 🤣 I think some pople just live in their own oblivious little world.

    • @martinpickard5818
      @martinpickard5818 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Having a viz vest gives you no priority…..as you stated it was a public road…..you seem to be in your own oblivious world….😂😂 you can move too you know….

    • @OliverMay1
      @OliverMay1 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@martinpickard5818 I'm not saying it gives me any priority, I'm saying that it makes me visible. Yes, people have every right to stand in front of me, but common decency would suggest they don't. Each of our positions is meticulously planned in order to have a specific background behind the competitors, and moving will undo that hard work and lower the quality of the images. We get to our locations early and make ourselves as visible as possible (this helps stop rude people standing in our way but also makes us visible to the competitors so they are more likely to wave/smile etc).
      Most people are polite and considerate and will either walk behind me or move past quickly. There is only the occasional oblivious/ignorant person that will stand directly on front of an official event photographer who is trying to do a job.
      We are doing a job just as Mark is. I assume you think that Mark should just move whenever a steward gets in his way?

    I know it’s annoying but just remember the lads a minor and someone’s son. Best having a word with a club official. I shoot at UK cycling road races and that’s always a challenge to keep the spectators out. Unfortunately last Sunday the big race (Rutland Melton Cicle Classic) fell foul of torrential rain that flooded large parts of the course and was cancelled. Cameras stayed in bag, only photo was one of the new statue of Queen Elizabeth in Oakham!

    • @MarkKerton
      @MarkKerton  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Very true and a fare point I agree. I’ve had a word with Sheffield Wednesday and hopefully a bit of education will be handed out. I just happens way too often now and I thought it was time to highlight the issue! Sorry your event was cancelled, that’s rubbish!

    • @MarkKerton

      I stand by my “little git” remark! I get to a ground 3hrs early to prepare, then in the heat of the moment, a moment where I have one or two seconds to capture that moment, a ball boy decides to join in with players when he should be sat on his seat! Imagine if everyone did that, it’d be pointless being there! It happens to often to us and I thought it was time to highlight it!
