4 years ago bought a 2005 vibe with 250,000 on it for $500. I've put just over $1000 in parts over the 4 years and it's got just shy of 400,000 on it now. Best car money can buy

Man, that's impressive for a vibe. Ours is at 156,000 . any tips on what to look out for in terms of future repair likely needed? Or, if fixing one repair, go ahead and change, replace something else as preventive...

I bought an '03 Vibe in '08 and it's still going strong in '22. The only major repairs in 14 yrs, new alternator and starter. I've also recently had the front suspension replaced because 10+ yrs on a dirt road takes it's toll. I love my Vibe!

We bought a 2004 Vibe in 2012 that had 70k miles on it. It is still my daily driver now with 256k miles and no major issues in all that time. Just brakes and oil changes. Gonna drive mine till the wheels fall off.

Just bought a used 2006 Vibe from private and only owner with 144,000 miles. Has some paint issues on the roof and few minor scratches and dings, but hey, Florida can reek hell on any cars finish down here. Runs like a charm, and I just put a new media center in it with rear backup camera. Only paid $3200 cash! Love the Vibe! (y)

I bought a 2009 Pontiac Vibe 5 years ago for $3200. I immediately changed tires and spark plugs. I've always kept up with oil changes and it's been a great buy for me. I drive less than 5,000 miles per year. The car was passed over on the car lot, I guess, because so little is known about the Pontiac Vibe. It's a hidden gem of a car.

'06 Matrix XR bought 2005 new. Will be 19 years old in September. 73K miles; 1800cc engine with automatic. Live in Chicago, so new exhaust 2 years ago and extensive front end work last year (city streets are brutal). The car is a treasure. I am 76 years old, and it may outlive me!

They ain't the prettiest but man are they well-built. Crazy amount of room inside to haul stuff, good mileage, and (best of all) EASY to work on yourself. GM really f'd up dropping the Pontiac line when they had an active partnership with Toyota that could have been leveraged for years longer. Regarding AWD, the most common issue is leaks with the shaft seals around 90K, but as you said with regular oil changes and other routine maintenance these can get a lot of miles.

I have owned 4 Vibes...My 1st 2007 made it to 400,000 miles ( and the new owner has 460,000) with 6,000 mile Mobil 1 Synthetic oil change intervals. I am currently at 298,000 on my 2005 Vibe and have another with 91,000 miles waiting as a backup car. All 3 have their Original exhausts!

I bought mine in 2014 with 170k on it, and it's up to ~285k now. Still running great. Paint is rapidly leaving, but not such a big deal in the desert. It's needed the struts/shocks replaced a couple times, the cruise control switch broke but was easy to replace myself, and the mass flow sensor got dirty but seems to be fine after being cleaned off. I don't recall much else, just parts that sometimes wear out as it gets this many miles, but no sign of any transmission problems or anything. So happy with it.

The pontiac has a nicer interior than the Matrix and up to 2009 the Vibe had a roof rack standard as well as fog lights. My son has about 250000 miles on the 08 Vibe that I bought new. 2005 Base w/5 spd in Silver. Bought it new with 12 miles on the odo. It now just turned 200,000 mi. I've only done regular maintenance, and that includes brakes, shocks, and springs. Garage kept, driven in winters for a decade, and now its semi- retired. I could not sell this car...although came close once. It fits my life style. I'm converting it into a mild camping/fishing vehicle with raised bed, storage, grill, etc for the summer months here in Michigan.
For a daily driver, I bought a 2013 Volt new. Used primarily on electric. At 75,000 miles I got scared of the horror stories with this car breaking down and or being bricked! I traded it in for a 2020 Corolla Hybrid.
Can't go wrong with Toyota. My Hybrid now has 60,000 mi on it, and gets 55-60 mpg.

I have a 2006 Pontiac Vibe. It's the one with everything on it. Bought it pretty much brand new from a guy who won it in a golf tournament back in the same year, 2006. This is an AWESOME vehicle, but I want folks t be aware of the transmission issues. I had to replace mine at 80,000 miles. Had to replace the A/C at 65,000 miles. Granted, this is 2021, so you can do the math. Things fall apart when they start getting older. I'm now looking at a 2009 awd sport. It has 128,000 miles on it, and when compared to similar cars, I'm getting it for about $4,500. It has a sun roof, 2.4l engine, comes with both snow tires and all weather tires. Has tire pressure information. Has more than the 2005, like blue tooth and such. Not that this really matters to us. So, I've researched a lot of other cars, along with prices, This little gem is truly underrated. Do your research if you're looking into one. Make sure you have it inspected, as this and any other car truly is what the previous owner(s) have done to it. Well worth the work of researching!

Bought my one owner 09 Vibe with 75000 miles in March 2018 for $5500.00. Original list was 22,560.00. It has the sun&sound pkg.$1,285.00 preferred pkg.$1,070.00, Auto trans.$1,050.00, A/C with rear ducts $950.00,17 in. aluminum wheels $545.00, Roof luggage rack w/cross bars $395.00,and fog lamps $135.00. Window sticker says 21 city MPG and 20 highway and it gets that and most times more. It now has 113,000 trouble free miles. Keep the tranny fluid pink.
With that kind of miles do not let a mechanic or shop do a flush which they will because they want the $170.00 bucks to do it. A flush could harm it although they are a tough tyranny.
I recommend a spill and fill every 40,000 miles.
Pull the tranny plug and let drain, measure the approx amt. And replace with new Toyota tranny fluid, take it for a spin then check the level, ad more if needed.
      Cost $30.
Keep it Pink I always say.

Hi Mike. I bought a 2010 GT with a 5 speed. It's been an awesome car with great mileage. I'm getting an average of 330 miles from a full tank of gas. Pontiac, Saturn and all medium duty GM trucks had to close because of the government bailout in 2009. Essentially the Vibe IS a Toyota. All I've done to this one is LOF, plugs and tighten the leaking valve cover. I've been driving it daily for over a year so far. It has 263,000 on it and is going strong. Oh.. a common problem is an O2 sensor. So my check engine and all traction control warning lights are on. Yes; Toyota's give you the sense that you have a bad wheel sensor when it's an O2 sensor. My 08 Avalon did the same thing.

My 2005 Vibe base automatic has 235k+ miles. Beyond mechanical reliability the car is just simply tough. It's gone into the ditch. It's hit a deer and yet the body is still straight and true. There's no alignment issues and I was able to repair the deer hit myself with hood and front bumper assembly from salvage yard. A daily driver to this day. Cargo capacity is phenomenal. I'll never forget being at home Depot loading 2x4x8s into the back of my Pontiac vibe up to the front with the front seat laid down flat while some guys beside me couldn't fit the same product into their Ford sport Trac pickup lol. Only pet peeve I have is the window regulator on my driver's side front, which is of course the most heavily used, but the control arms have pulled off of the window twice. Now in the life of the car. These windows are fully wrapped by the door sheet metal so you have grooves on the side as well as the top for waterproofing and ceiling as well as interior next year plastic rubber trim along the horizontal of the window and I guess over time it just gets harder and harder to pull it down actually through the grooves which caused it to pull off of the arms

I have owned 3 Vibes, 1- 2003, and 2 - 2005s. All were reliable. The last one I bought at $2k with 200Kmi sold it running great at just under 300K. One was rolled. It protected my son who was able to walk away with no scratches. I changed 2 doors, fixed the rear quarter panel, and replaced the front and the rear suspension. After, Firestone did the alignment with no issues and it is still on the road today. My kids drive them, I know they are reliable, safe, and practical for moving, camping, shopping, sleeping. Mileage 28 to 33mpg. My first one obtained a consistent 27mpg with a small 4 X 8 trailer in tow. I do not know of too many pickups with an 4 X 8' bed that can sit 5 people, plus storage and get near 30 mpg. They are not the most comfortable or quiet riding. They are not the fastest, but they hold up. I still have yet to see any Vibe with torn seats under normal use, 19 years later.
Expect - these cars are super easy to work on. Worst thing to repair is the front hub bearing. Change the radiator at 180K. Secret I found, Do not open the door part way and lower the front windows. the glass will explode. 05 and up were modified. Door stop needs to be grinded down. Toughest part of getting rid of a Vibe is finding a comparable replacement without spending a bunch of cash.

I got my 05 Automatic, 2/14/22 106k. It needed/needs lots of work. Did the major, rear brake locking up due to springs not put back on correctly, interior was filthy, paid to have it detailed, still working on it but driving it instead of my 02 F250 7.3 diesel 15mpg.
Paid $2350 for her and getting 27-30mpg. For that I don't mind putting a little elbow grease into it to make it last.

Just bought a 2006 fwd vibe with 211k mi today for my granddaughter for $2300. Good shape, maintained and the motor purrs like a kitten. What really impressed me in my research was the 97% combined 4 and 5 star rating owners gave to this vehicle. Hoping she has the same success with her "new first ride" as others here have had.

Got the same exact car as er your video. Even the color is the same. I bought it new early 2005. The price was great as I got to deduct $3500 from the bottom line by using my GM credit card dollars. The car has been great . It currently has just over 100000 miles and has been very dependable and reliable. Besides wear items such as tires, batteries and brake pads there have been very few instances needing repairs. All of the repairs I was able to do myself. The tires last around 45-50 thousand miles. The battery lasts 5 to 6 years, I use the cheapest wal mart batteries. The brake pads lasted around 75000 miles. Other repairs include : 1. Mass air flow sensor (caused lean code to trigger) cost was $40.00 for the oem part. 2. Starter failed just recently and I replaced it with rebuilt starter with lifetime warranty for $120. I also had a light go out in the radio. Just went online and got and used replacement for $50. I also put some custom wheels and tires on the car, to sharpen up the appearance. I also have a trailer hitch and tow small utility trailer with it occasion. Trailer weight is around 1000 pounds and it has no issue with it. Gas mileage is around 31 mpg highway (70+ mph) and around 26 mpg city (with air on). You are right these are great cars, I knew about them when they first came out and got one at first need for new car. There is another car that did the same thing earlier, it was the GEO Prizm. My mother in law had one and it too was a great little car. Hope the Vibe serves you well, They are indeed a hidden gem.

These cars are fantastic. I bought mine with just over 100k for 1400 a year ago because it needed a clutch. After I installed the new clutch and added in a nice stereo with apple car play and I have the best commuter car. The thing I did not expect when I purchased it is how fun it is to drive. I have least than 2000 bucks in it and it runs and drives like new. 250k to 300k no problem. Everyone I have met that has owned one loves them.

I had a 2003 Vibe and currently have a 2007 that has over 197,000 and runs like a top. These are great little cars, and some may not know 03 to 08 can interchange pretty much entirely. An 08 nose clip can match up to the 03. Fenders and headlights are all the same. 2009 made a drastic change. Now though the engine can be found in the Matrix, Carolla, and Camry, but I have seen some evidence supporting that the transmission is manufactured by NUMMI which I've read was designed to be use by GM to pair up with Japaneses autos. I'm still researching on these things so don't quote me, but I'd recommend this car to any first timers. You can usually get a little better deal with the Vibe over the Matrix because it carries the "American car" name and stigma though you're basically getting the same car. Excellent condition tops out in value about $5000, so don't let crooked dealerships tell you different. I've been researching and following these cars for the past almost 6 years. My 07 is immaculate inside and out, and got it $4500 out the door with 189,000 on it.

I just bought a 2003 Vibe! From an older gentleman who had owned it since 2003. All maintenance records and everything, $1,400! With only 136,500 miles on it!
Only thing is it has a leak in the exhaust between the manifold and the converter. Probably the gasket, but I’m going to run a shop vac on reverse into the exhaust pipe to find it. Other than that it runs great, all the bearings and struts are stock and not rigid or bouncy at all. It’s a 4 banger so not super zippy but it gets going. I LOVE the back with the hard plastic and flat fold down seats. Will be using it for a work truck, basically.
All in all I’m pretty sure it’s the smartest $1,400 I’ve spent all year!
