This film went to places I never dreamed it woudl when I started watching it. Great acting, love Michael Caine of course. Great script. great directiing. So glad I found this and watched it. I don't think anyone could do as well as Michael Caine. I also don't think I will even bother watching the remake. Probably just ruin the whole mood of this one. This is a truly touching film.
Unreconstructed male. Perfect portrayal by Caine. Great film. Bill Naughton is an underrated writer. He was from Bolton so a northern unknown for many years. It's time he was recognised fully.
Wow that's shocking to me because he's always telling his "birds" that they were all free and there were no attachments but he can flip out on Ruby when he gets jealous; when its convenient for him; oh HELL NO!!!!!
Theres a line in the film where he says "some women arent fit to be mothers". I thought oh he's got mummy issues. He described Ruby as "mumsy" and was the only woman he considered settling down with. She had no children to steal the attention away from him. But he failed to see she was a female version of him.
Classic. The guy runs around with a million women, one woman is unabashedly sleeping with another guy and it pisses him off. I love how she turns it around on the classic way men choose younger women - women can choose younger men, too. Hurts, don't it?
What happened in the parts that are blocked by copyright? Segments 8/9?? That's gonna drive me nuts, not knowing what happened in those 2 little segments after the young girl left. :/
+Donna Manning That and his emotional breakdown at the sight of his 'perfectly formed being" of a child is why this film is almost never aired on TV. Dr Thomas Sowell said that over a decade ago and it's only aired once since then. That's why the term 'woman's right to choose" is always used, to keep the focus on the woman and not the baby, as if she were choosing between a vanilla or chocolate ice cream cone instead of a live or dead baby. Meanwhile that woman will never be the same.
Each21 OMG, you are so right about that! I saw it a couple of times, but you're right, it just isn't on TV like so many other movies. And now that you mention it, the sight of the breakdown was really something! Considering this movie was made in the 60's, it was quite a ground breaker, I think.
+Each21 & abortion, like homosexuality was only made legal so that M.P.'s & Lords etc could hide their own misdemeanors & sordid little secrets without fear of exposure &/or arrest

It is funny, romantic, tragic and happy at different times. Really good movie ❤

Such wonderful music
He always gets me with - "you know what ?!" 😄🤣😉
"You pick him up cheap, too?" LOL
"He's younger than you are..you got it?" Utterly scathing to a smug-faced womaniser.
Great movie! Michael Caine is one of my favorites. Fun fact: this was uploaded on my 12th birthday (I am 18 now).
its a wonderful film
Thank you so much, Priscilla. Haven't seen this movie in decades. Just subbed. 💛💛💛

Ruby: "He's younger that you are, ya got it? 7:18
Alfie: D'oh!
Turnabout is fair play.

Truth about abortion.

Ese alfie no perdonaba a nadie 😂😂😂
I saw this movie many years ago and the aborted fetus was shown when he went into the room.

In America, we had Margaret Sanger, who founded Planned Parenthood and who was a committed eugenicist.
How many MILLIONS of murdered babies since this movie came out?
Quite simply the greatest antiabortion film ever made
Ain't that the truth...
