11 inch is for people who have it in their hands all the time and use it more like a tablet. People who work on it at a desk wont have problems with the big size.

I have an 11 inch and like it a lot, but I do something I didn’t see you do in your video. I hold it to interact with it. I use it to read books, comics, the internet while on the couch. But yeah, if I just had the thing propped up all the time I too would prefer the 12.9 inch, but I have a Mac for those times.

I am a big iPad man. I have used the 12.9” ever since it first launched in 2015. I use in every aspect of my life including TH-cam, office work, video and photo editing, browsing on the couch, and playing music (electronic manuscript). For 3-years I was iPad only, but today use in conjunction with an 16” MacBook Pro. The iPad Pro is my favourite computer device.

And oh boy the new OLED is worth the extra. Honestly, it's so much lighter and brighter. I never use any case with the ipad and the feeling of holding the new thin ipad is something I called magical.

With regard to the video's primary focus, the real estate is definitely the only reason to go with the bigger iPad. I have the 11" M1 iPad Pro and use it very much the way Sam used it in this video.
And let's be honest - working on spreadsheets completely sucks unless you're on a desktop computer. a 16" laptop is second.

Not totally agree.I have both 12.9m2 iPad pro and 11 m4 iPad pro.
The 12.9 is better only if you are planning to use it with a keyboard ALL THE TIME, and once you take it away and use it as a tablet that’s where the nightmare starts, it’s very uncomfortable using it hand handheld machine.
And since iPadOS is very limited to use as laptop machine, I ended up not using the 12.9” much. A MacBook air 13” + iPad 11” would be the perfect combination imo

I've always had the 11" but got the 12.9" this year and really enjoying it. I used it for sheet music at times and it's much easier to see. That being said just daily use is pretty nice as well and the new ones are so thin it's not difficult to hold IMHO.

  • @76williamsbh

This is very interesting. I had the 12.9” M1 since it launched but found myself not using it as much. I really wanted it to be my main computer but never could get away from my MacBook. I recently sold it on eBay and originally bought an 11” M4 but could not justify dropping that much money. I ended up buying an 11” M2 on eBay for 1/4 the cost of the M4 and still had money in my pocket from the sale of the 12.9” M1. I find myself actually using my iPad more now. If I ever stopped doing my regular job and could live with an iPad as my only device, I could see going back to the larger size but right now I’m just letting the iPad be the iPad!

I upgraded from a Tab S8 to a Tab S9+ and I feel mostly the same. The larger screen makes most things more comfortable and nice to do in most scenarios, especially since I use it a lot for writing math stuff.
However, it's a little too big to hold comfortably. I found it a bit too large and unwieldy to use while playing games. Reading manga and stuff can feel a little bit too big at times. I need glasses, so the bigger image means that I have to back up to read comfortably, but then the image becomes blurry because of the distance when attempting to read without glasses.

I mostly use my iPad for work meetings and related work stuff. Had an 11 inch and sold it for a 12.9 inch. Honestly there's a huge difference when you need to multitask. Generally I have notes on one side, a browser/pdf on the other side, with a slide over chat/photo app. The 11 inch is just too small! And for things like reading books, the iPad mini makes more sense.

To me the question is never 11 inch vs 12.9 inch iPad, but:
    1. 12.9 inch iPad vs 13 inch MacBook Air, or even 15 inch MacBook Air?
    2. MacBook Pro 16 inch pair with 12.9 inch iPad with some kind of stand smart cover for the usage of sidecar or MacBook Pro 16 inch pair with 11 inch without Smart Cover just use iPad as a writing/drawing pad, which one have the balance between carrying weight and enough screen space? ESPECIALLY if I consider to carry a mirrorless camera with me.

I had a 12.9” for a while and it was amazing at the desk… but a massive pain to use as a tablet. The 11” is great as a tablet, but kinda cramped on the desk.
TLDR: the 11” is a tablet solution with the benefit of desktop use and the 12.9” is a desktop solution that can kinda double as a wonky tablet in a pinch.

Another perspective.... invest the cost difference between the 11 and 12.9 into a cellular 5G version of the 11. We found a good unlimited dedicated data plan on the tablet and having cellular on the IPad was great out and mobile because you also get GPS. so on trips my wife is co-piloting while I drive the RV. It saves the battery on her phone because she doesn't have to hot spot all the time. Also.... because most of the consumption activities are on the iPAD the phone can live with a limited dataplan.

  • @Aiii83
    @Aiii83 28 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

I think this question is quite easily answered, ngl. You’ll want the 11-inch if you want an amazing tablet. Something you can easily hold in one hand for hours on end to consume content and browse on, the somewhat wider aspect ratio also helps with video (though OLED has made the black bars on the 13-inch a bit less annoying than before as there’s no more blooming (or greys if you have a pre-miniLED model)). The 11-inch is also easier for note taking tasks with the Pencil, etc. Again, portability is key here. Smaller footprint means it takes less space on your desk, if you put it down to write on.
However, if you want a more laptop-like experience, go for the 13-inch with the magic keyboard, the extra screen is great, etc and the trackpad and keyboard size matters if that’s what you use a lot. In other words, if you want to use an iPad the majority of the time as a device in combination with the Magic Keyboard, get the 13-inch. I also understand Artists will want the bigger screen over the smaller one.
As some others have pointed out, the weight of the new 13-inch is dramatically reduced, making it easier to hold as a tablet, but I do feel the size is still “too gd big” if you’re primarily using it as a tablet. You’ll want something smaller that’s not taking up all of your personal space.
Personally, I solved this issue by wasting my savings and buying both. But don’t be like me, pick the one that matches your use case most and accept the drawbacks of either when you use it for the other use-case.

The 12.9 is for serious engineering and research. I still like the little guy - it is still immersive and less important if i drop it on a rock. I was very very upset when the ipad air (13") came out this year. If i'd waited 9 months, could have saved a bomb and for me-the performance would have been fine.

Be honest, those 200 kg where purposefully inserted into that particular shot, weren't they?😄 At the end of the day, the size depends on how you use your iPad. I don't really use mine for productivity, just for content consumption, so I value portability, which is why the 11" size is perfect for me (and cheaper!). The 12.9" size is definitely great for all that additional real estate, especially if you're using it as a second monitor. If I want productivity on the go, I've got my Zephyrus G14.

I got 12.9 inch iPad Pro a few years ago, it’s sitting in the shelf and since then, 3 of my iPad Pro are all 11 inch. 13 inch is just too big for me. I use my M1 MacBook Pro to do everything else, I use my M4 IPad Pro as my chill tablet. Tried the iPad Air, never liked the finger print to login, I’m lazy, I prefer the face recognition, and beside, this ipad is so thin now. I just hand down the other 2 of my iPad Pro 11 inch; however, the 12.9 inch, no one wants a hand me down big ipad. Haha. Maybe I should just sell it.

I have the mini, 11” and 12.9” and only the mini and 12.9 get any use. The 11” is too large to comfortably type on the screen while holding but too small for productivity. Stage manager is useless on anything but the 12.9”.

Why have a keyboard on your second monitor with either form factor? 😂 For what it’s worth I use the 11 inch for work every day simply because it more portable and lighter. Looking to move to the M4.

Teleprompter: Text size is too small, as with Teleprompters it‘s supposed to be only two or three Words per Line.
And the size of the Line breaks are too small as well. They shouldn’t be so close.

Wondering why this was ever a video that need to be made my first ipad in 2017 was 12.9 and any smaller is just wrong. I have the 2018 11 inch and have been trying to sell it off for 2 years tried the mini much too small for art. Yes I always recommend the 12.9 and always get refurbished or renewed its apple so their products hold up. Always love your videos. ZUGU cases are really nice.

You should try the iPad Mini. Think of it as a big phone instead of an extended laptop display.

Yeah I feel you. I kind of like have both sizes lol. When I want a tablet only, I take 11. When I want to do anything else, I take 12.9.

3:15 I really hate this quick wear of the mac's keyboards... really low quality. Nice travel and feel, but the cover of the keys is trash... On my Macbook pro it looks the same only after couple of months of usage...

I did a consideration when i choose the size of the screen .
I have a phone that it's close to 7 inch good enough for my use but on a tablet i would most do things i do on a laptop or a desktop so the space is necessary no point to get a thing just 3 4 inch bigger than a modern phone.
Especially if you are editing multiple documents , drawing with reference , using complicated application with a lot of features and a big interface more space you have the better .
I think 13 or 14 inch are the perfect size bigger than that would make the tablet difficult to use and manage .

It's not about the size it's how you use it
