"Blood Count'' is a 1967 jazz composition by Billy Strayhorn. It was originally meant for a three-piece work Strayhorn was writing for Duke Ellington and initially titled "Blue Cloud". However, Strayhorn was hospitalized in 1967 due to cancer and finished the composition while in the hospital.
This version of 'Blood Count' by Billy Strayhorn, in an original arrangement by Oene Van Geel, performed by CHAMBER JAZZ CONSORT, with Amsterdam-based jazz musicians, clarinetist Anton Jakimenko and violist Oene Van Geel, and a classical string team with Misako Akama, Sarah Oates, and Eduardo Tonietto.

This honors the richness of the original while totally reimagining it in a way I found convincing and moving. Like the melancholy of Strayhorn meets that of Schmidt and it all works.
Thanks for sharing such a great example of music with us!
