Ty for this review. I've looked towards Origin a few times now. I just like the look and the made in America. Yes their are boot guys on another level especially on TH-cam. I am a boot guy myself, I just don't get into that much depth with them. I think you did a great job and ty for having the 2 different boots.
Last year, I purchased the Origin Coronado with the Black Cristy sole. I also have narrow heel and subject to heel slip. I installed leather heel grips (about $4 a pair) and problem solved. I just ordered the new Origin Protective Toe Work Boots with Mini Lug. I should have them by end of the week.
@@jayphive2468 Brannock size 9. I ordered size 9 EE. As my foot is wide. The Work Boots seem to fit slightly better. I wear the Coronado through TSA at airports. Both are size 9
There is a video I saw on TH-cam where the poster wore Orgin boots in a metal shop and destroyed them in 7 months. He says that these are casual boots.
They would increase their quality & value by orders of magnitude if they used a veg tan leather insole and included a shank. They would have to source the insole & midsole outside of the US for now, but their longevity and comfort would go up meaningfully.
@@roberthunden1757 they’re very transparent about their sourcing which is amazing. The admit that the veg tan midsole is the only thing they can’t currently source in the us or make themselves yet. Nobody here makes them. Even the veg tan tanneries don’t do the oak tanning or proper thicknesses to make them into insoles or midsoles. Columbia and Mexico are known for having high quality in both tho. I’m sure that they’re working or bringing back a Maine tannery to do that in volume enough to supply to the heritage US based boot companies or something to that effect. My understanding is that that process can be a year or more per batch compared to chrome tanning being weeks. Even if they get a solution, they’ll still have to import that one part for the foreseeable future. They’re at least honest about it.
What do the 4 numbers mean after the size on their website? That may be a dumb question and I admit I don’t know a lot about the sizing of these. But it says there is no returns or exchanges and for the price I think there should be. That is a little ridiculous. But I want to make sure I get it right and I can’t find any info
I believe you are looking at their Outlet section. These are boots with minor blemishes that they discount. My guess is those 4 numbers are IDs for that specific pair of which they may only have one or two of. That would also explain the lack of return on those models. I would give them a call to be sure.
I have three pair of Origins! All bought on sale, 30% off! IMO, they are OK at the sale price. I would NOT buy another pair at full retail. They’re great at being a lightweight, walk around, tennis shoe feeling boot! Nothing wrong with that but, these are not comparable to heavy duty PACNW boots, Nick’s, JK’s, White’s, etc……… Again, if you want a lightweight, tennis shoe type boot, by all means buy these when “on sale” when they’re $230-290 boots. Buy American! However, in my humble opinion, they are not worth more than that considering what you can get from JK, Nick, White, etc………..the JK 300/X is superior in almost every way! IMO! 👍
True to size. Don't let the ratings on their site fool you, though. Pretty sure they supress anything below 4 stars. My Bison boots pinched my toes badly enough to create bruises between my big toe joints and toe nails within the first three days of wearing them...not that you'd see that from reading all of the 5-star reviews (those they don't censor) on their site...
@aztlanahauc I'll gladly delete my previous comment, should my 2-star review from a couple months ago post...not that I'm terribly likely to check back for it. Still, it's a bit strange that, for the particular boots I reviewed (Bison 6" Big Lug), there's not been a 4-star review in almost 2 years or a 3-star review in nearly 3.
Agree, true to size. Not having 1/2 sizes over 12s I’ll never understand. I am 12.5 spot in according to their size guide…but they don’t make 12.5. Got a 13…definitely long and took longer to break in.
The fact that they do not have a shank is a big no from me. I will be intrested to see how they are after a few years of building boots but until then I will stick with my Nicks.
Save your money and buy a pair of real boots from the PNW like Nicks, Whites or Wesco, or even a Redwing. American Made is great for marketing, but if it isn’t a solid boot through and through American Made, it just doesn’t matter.
Ugly boots. Get a pair of Red Wing Iron rangers or if you have the money get a pair of Nick's. Stay away from flash in the pan hyper branding like these.
To each his own. I love the look. I love Iron Rangers, too, but they definitely lean towards the "clown shoe" end of the spectrum. The mini lug on the Origin is a super classy look and a great trade-off between comfort, looks, and practicality. I have a pair of Red Wing 9111 with the white Cristy wedge soles. They're ridiculously stiff, making them super clunky, especially for a non-work boot, even after the leather has become as soft and supple as can be. I f*cking HATE wedge soles.
FYI, origin has an outlet store that is selling their boots for 30% off because of minor blemishes. I just ordered the Bison mini lug.
How bad are the blemishes?
@@Owl-yc2yu Just s a couple scuffs in the leather but once you wear them and use them it's no big deal. Because mine are scuffed up now. lol
Where is the outlet store ? Online ?
Where please

00:12 DEEEEEP huff of the boot, straight to the dome!!!
Nothing like some sweet smellin' leather!

Is your Coronado true to size or did you go up/down a half step?

Great review iam going to order a pair of Lincoln 1861 boots can’t wait
Wondering if these boots will be good to work in in a machine shop.
There is a video I saw on TH-cam where the poster wore Orgin boots in a metal shop and destroyed them in 7 months. He says that these are casual boots.
Nope this are casual boots.
Are they true to size? I usually wear 9.5 in almost every shoe, and I’m not sure if I should size up/down with the Coronado.

Original only sells items that are 100% made in the USA.
Their veg tan leather is imported from Mexico. But that is the only part that is imported

i go through 2 pairs of danners a year. they are comfortable but dont last. i was wondering how these would do and how they are about warranties
I can’t imagine how much are you walking per day

We normally call it the pnw here in Washington. Never heard pacnw before. Wonder if it's a generational difference lol.
Is the fit true to size? Do they run bigger or smaller to size?
They have a sizing print out
I found them to run true to size. They fit me perfectly.

@dankist6546 that is messed up if they do. There is a guy accusing them of deleting negative comments on their Facebook ads, though.

Fair enough. These strike us as a more casual-leaning boot.
their safety toe/work oriented ones do have a shank
