One suggesting it seems almost all bookmakers today miss. Cherry wood arch supports. Metal, fiberglass etc don't mold to the users foot. I'm not sure why the went away but in the 70's and 80's the best books alk used cherry arch supports. When repairing them we always had to make sure to get them back in the right spot because the users could tell.

The fabric lining in my Wiltons is already splitting where it is stitched behind the ankle. It's so poorly done that it happened just from walking in them after one week of wear. Sorry but a boot that fails after only a week of extremely light use is not worth $300+ and it also cheapens the Made in the USA tag. Gotta do better than this.

I think Origin is going on the right direction and staying with their made in the USA business model. Nothing wrong with that. I’d like to see them start fully gusseting the tongues and maybe come out with a waterproof version and maybe even a wool lined winter boot. I’m sure they’ll continue to have success.

I think the main key update/progress is the origin has made the jump to make GYW boots. Now their employees can develop skills and experience in making that style of product. We need more experienced shoe makers in the U.S. All for supporting MITUSA products, though I don’t get foo caught up in the 100% sourced. There are honestly some materials that are not made well in the US, it’s ok not the end of the world to source somewhere as long as it’s responsibly sourced.

So I own two pair of Origin's work boots from 2023. They look awesome and use quality materials however they weren't great for actual work. Outsoles delaminated from the toe pretty quick and they just didn't have enough support for construction work. • @RyTrapp0
      @RyTrapp0 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

I'm not surprised they weren't too great for construction work, their other styles are definitely on the lighter side(which is fine, they just skew more towards comfort & flexibility over durability & support). Would definitely expect this new Goodyear welted boot to hold up better for that. You could maybe describe their previous boots as "shop/warehouse boots" while this one leans a little more "construction boot".

They look pretty good, however I don't see much of an advantage to the Origin over Thorogoods. I have a pair of Thorogoods and they have been rock solid. Been wearing them regularly for over a year and they are holding up wonderfully. They were certainly money well spent for me. If I were going to get another pair of moc toe boots, I'd probably go with Red Wing. From my perspective those are made with better materials, close to the White's, but are priced similarly to the Origins.

Origin holds it's niche by being 100% mitusa but in my opinion they don't excel at much else.
Their boots are lighter and easier to wear but not necessarily better quality.
I don't mean that in a bad way. At the end of the day footwear is either going to be comfy or durable and you have to balance that. I think red wing is a mitusa example of durability over comfort and origin is the opposite

I’ve been rocking their workboots for a year now and I can admit they’re the real deal. The comfiest boots I’ve ever owned and the leather is super tough.
My only gripe with how they make these things was the blake stitch. The outsole on mine are separating from the mid just enough to look trashy and let water in. Shoeglue fixed that, but nothing is as good as a 360 goodyear stitched boot.

    • @pcarrierorange
      @pcarrierorange 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

Outsole separating from midsole has nothing to do with it being blake stitched; and indeed could happen in exactly the same way on this new goodyear welted model, because both styles have the outsoled glued on, rather than stitched.

It is the precise nature of the adhesives used to adhere the outsole to the midsole. Some glues are better than others, but nothing is guaranteed for all conditions. In other words it's just bad luck of the draw unfortunately.

Id say that all MITUSA except the midsole was close enough to get the better overall product. The whole problem with prioritizing made in the usa is that if there just isnt the market in the usa making a component, its the materials manufacturers fault, not he product makers. Id rather see the imported midsole version moc toe than the lesser overall quality all MITUSA.

Origin shoild stick to the blake stitch light duty boots. Union guys who can spend $300+ on a pair of boots have $500+ to buy the best boots for their job. Non union guys will beat the bushes to find Thorogoods on sale for $180-200. A lot of workers like boots and they do a lot of things besides work. Instead of Thursday boots they pony up a little more for USA made boots for Thanksgiving/PTA meetings/ whatever day to day activities. Thursdays are absolute bangers used though.

Let's see...I have a pair of the Origin Maine Coronado and really like 'em - very comfortable and great for casual light-work wear (even received a few compliments because they're definitely "work boots" but have more of a style thing going that work boot appreciate. The downside is I would never wear these for serious heavy-duty work like I would my Thorogood American Heritage Moc Toe for the reasons you pointed-out: they're not a durable Goodyear welt and, while comfortable, would fall to pieces and probably couldn't be repaired. Sad, but true!
This new design of their Moc Toe is really nice...looks quite similar to my Thorogoods, but I like the style/stitching even better IMO. I would like a pair of these...sadly, they're just not competitively priced with the Thorogood American Heritage. I know they retail for $280, but I often see them selling in the $260 range. For me, I'm retired military and GovX sells these for $175.99...plus, I usually have a $10 credit (buyers bonus bucks...or whatever) sitting in my account, which knocks another 10 off the price. Even with the discount ($296)...well, that's far more than $166 I'm paying for the American Heritage...for a very similar boot. Still, I'm glad to see OM using the more durable Goodyear welt construction. Enjoyed.

I would be curious to know how much less the Origins hold up than the Whites and how much more it holds up over the Thoroughgood. Also I think the price is absolutely spot on given all the materials sourced and MITUSA. I like the upgrades that the Whites has, but I would rather save that $50 and support USA, if it doesnt make that much of a difference in performance. Maybe Orign can do those upgrades in the future with this boot even if it raises it to the same price as the Whites or cheaper and it would be a great comparison. I'm all about bringing back manufacturing to the US and I love Origin products!

Very nice boot. I dont think they make a taller boot like the Whites and Thorogoods. I like a taller boot for the support it offers. I can tell you I still go with the Thorogoods and I’ll tell you why. Most trades destroy their boots. Resoling isnt an option unless you want to do it every 4 to 6 months which is ridiculous. I choose the cheaper boot that breaks in quickly and hold up for at least a year. Most people aren’t electricians or loggers and they are the only ones that can really utilize a boot that can be re soled. If the upper and sole And especially the toe wear out at the same rate you just gotta buy a new boot.

The one problem I had with these is where they stitch the lining together behind the ankle. The seam started splitting right above the internal counter cover because it just seems to be very weakly done. Because that's the same spot where you cut the boot in half I guess it's difficult to highlight that in this type of review. The rest of the boot seems to be pretty well done except for this one weak spot where I think they can do a better job. The seam in my boots started to split after only about a week of pretty light wear. I will also point out that they reached out to me after I posted a critical review on their website that mentioned this exact problem. The review has not been published even though they obviously have seen it so be wary of the fact that they are more than likely filtering out negative reviews. As much as I want to love what this company is doing, it's practices like this that really make you want to look elsewhere.

I worked in American manufacturing for 11 years. I own my own home and a tiny part of the American dream due to good paying manufacturing jobs. I will buy a pair of these boots.

I love the Made in USA dedication but these last two have disqualifies for me. I will not own another fabric lined boot so the beautiful lines of this mom toe is a no go for me. I'll stick with the Whites Perry and step up to the select if I want a little more.
I was ver excited about the Hybrid boot with the canvas shaft because it might be a nice light breathable boot for my desert habitat. Unfortunately they lined that shaft with padding so it's warmer looking than a straight leather shafted boot.
I am happy with some things they've done like increasing toe room and the shank not being part of the outsole.

*Wow these Origin boots seem pretty decent! I know there's many people out there who love Red Wing boots. So here's some info I gathered about them.*
*Some models of shoes manufactured by Red Wing Shoes are not made in the United States, including most models of shoes manufactured under the Irish Setter Boots, Vasque, Carhartt, and Worx brands. These shoes are made in Vietnam and Cambodia.*
*However, Red Wing Shoes does use leather from its own tannery, S.B. Foot Tanning Company, which is located in Red Wing, Minnesota. Red Wing Shoes also combines advanced technology with handmade craftsmanship.*

Great video. It’s extremely sad we are supposed to be the leaders of the world yet we couldn’t even make a boot 100% in the USA until now.
Great work origin is doing. I’ll probably try to buy a pair of jeans from them

Who says we couldn't actually make a boot 100% in the USA till now?
It may have been awhile since we had if there aren't in fact any others besides the origins, but we certainly have before.
The only component they couldn't find a domestic option for is the leather midsole, and there are some boots that don't even have a midsole which may then be 100% American made.
Do we know where Russell gets their thread and hardware?
      What about Gokey ?
I have a pair of boots from footwear by footskins, just a moccasin upper made from American tanned leather and an outsole blake stitched on.
If the outsole is domestically made, that only leaves the thread and eyelets.
Clearly if there's any percentage of imported components it's not enough to require a qualified statement ( ie with global materials...etc ) and they just might be 100% American made for all I know.

They need these with a composite or steel toe imo. You can’t really call them “work” boots without that.

Where is the cork sourced from?
I thought that cork only came from the Mediterranean region. I have never heard of cork cultivation in the USA.

Hi, I really appreciate what you do, thank you for all your efforts. I have a question. I think the craziest Nike air max bubble shoe could be the airmax 720 which was released in early 2019 I think. Would love to see you crack through it. Keep up the good work.
