- Today we swing by the ICW Boat Ramp in Orange Beach Alabama. This new Boat Launch is designed to be able to handle 9 vessels launching at a single time, given the fact that the boaters are experienced and know how to navigate in tight quarters. Most of the time, its a Gulf Coast Train Wreck. Thanks for watching the film and dont forget to smash that Like Button and Subscribe! #BoatRamp #BoatLaunch #orangebeach
Just found your channel and subbed. Your added commentary makes it even better.
@@TheBigDanShow Just found you this morning myself.. Good stuff!
I suggest we just put pontoon man down, it would be the ki dest thing for him 😅😊
It’s better than that bronco guy and wavy boats. Good voice and commentary. I subscribed cause I like watching people do stupid things they shouldn’t. 😮
just about exactly what I was going to write! "Just found your channel and subbed. Your added commentary makes it even better."
Hilarious bro! "There's a plethora of things that could happen right here". That's some solid vocab work, Big Dan. btw, been boating up here in Ontario Canada for 20 years and I've never seen power loading to be illegal ever. Keep up the good work.
Boat ramps provide an endless supply of entertainment!
Ain’t no doubt! Welcome to the channel
I fished alot of bass tournaments back in the day and people at the boat ramp where amazed at how fast we could launch a boat, and load a boat back on the trailer. Once the tires hit the ramp 2min. tops maybe even less.
Dude you are so cool can I have your signature and credit score please 🥹
Yep, the way it should be!
Unhook winch, back boat in water with operator, park truck, walk back to dock and get in boat. It doesn’t even take 1 minute of ramp time. Edit: boat operator moves boat the hell out of the way until truck guy is at dock
We were laying up our boats and a couple was having problems. We helped em. BTW they were skiers.
Yes and power loading and unloading is required for bass boats and many of these high bow boat owners don’t understand that
Love the channel! All these people remind me of the episode of family guy where Peter tries to launch his boat but ends up driving the whole car and boat in the lake.
lol thanks
It's so interesting watching these videos. Love the channel man just subbed. I have to say as a boat owner for 3 years why don't people take the time to learn how to trailer the boat. Ask a buddy to show you, watch some TH-cam videos, and take your time. Before I launched my boat for the first time I had a very experienced buddy show me how to launch and recover my boat 4 times before attempting it. Biggest things I've learned take your time and think through the whole process, even make a check list if you need to. Thanks for doing this man. It helps a TON to have a resource like this to continue learning how to operate safely.
Thank you for your service in the Coast Guard!
Proper depth on the trailer is the key. So many people don't spend the time to figure that out. It will save a lot of hassle and possible damage if you can figure that out.
This ramp is a little steeper by several degrees than most, actually is easier to load being this steep once one figures it out. It does change your marks if you've gotten use to them on less steep ramps.
Personally, my favorite ramp is about the same degree as this. With the smaller boat I can launch/load with the short tongue and not even get the rear tire saltwater wet, nor the full tongue, wiring. My friends favorite ramp, with my smaller boat I stop with the water under the front of the door frame. His tongue is ridiculously long though. His 19' skiff trailer is 4' longer than mine for the KW263, or his dads Kl 26'.
Most folks put their trailer in way too deep. If my fenders are fully submerged then I’m in WAY too deep.
Good point , get the depth right for the trailer and it’s a lot easier to land and float the boat, 😊
How many of these boats are bought or hired by people who don’t have a clue? 😂
Beautiful docks and launching ramps. Its the people!
When I start out boating I practice backing up in the parking lot for 30min a day for week, then went out boat ramp it easy for me.
I can relate with having your kid begging to fly the drone. Love your content!
Can't believe those people in the pontoon boat didn't have a life jacket on that toddler!
Hey Big Dan - Tip from Canada on backing trailer up - - Put your hand palm facing down but on bottom of steering wheel, then move your hand in the direction you want the trailer to go.....Just as if you were backing up without a trailer and your hand on top of wheel. Taught many a newbie that way and usually works out eventually :)
lol... i luv the way mama bear gave you the Eagle eye... 👍 great video...
You’ll be one of the top boat dock tubers soon. Way better commentary than most of them. You just need more crazy stuff to happen before you pop
Dan, I enjoy your attention to detail and knowledge of docking.
This Chanel is entertaining for sure. I’ve been a boater for years and can’t believe some of those who have boats
Thanks
Great video! I like your plan to do a training video. Split it into 4 or 5. Start with backing and dock etiquette.
4:15 Excellent points and info for those new to boating and launching/landing! Thank you sir. 🍻💚🇺🇸☮️
4:16 yep I’m one! I’m here to learn what do to, and what not to do! Thanks!
Hay Big Dan love the show . And showing us what not to do😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Best channel!! Love watching!!
At 15:05 often can't see those little trailers so picking it up to finish quickly is great idea.
My first boat was about 8 years ago and I remember the first thing I did was go to a parking lot and practice backing up in spots and then took the boat out on a Wednesday morning or some shit when I knew nobody would be there so I could get a routine down. Surprises me all the time how many ppl just show up to crowded ramps and just be reckless next to others peoples stuff. Crazy world
Love the ICW ramp. More expensive boats than at Navy point and they have no clue what’s going on 😂
Crazy stuff! I am a new boater in NC out of Topsail. Not new to boating (Long Island GSB). I have learned a lot from the show and I appreciate what you do. Keep recording man!
Welcome aboard! Thanks for
LMAO!!! That would be me lifting the trailer!!!!
YOU!!!! Made my day! You are the BEST!
Thanks
I am new to boating. But I watched a ton of Big Dan videos before I even launched my boat for the first time. Learned ALOT before I even launched my boat for the first time watching his videos.
I haven't laughed this hard in a long time thanks for the great commentary
Seem's like almost everyone sticks there trailer to deep. If the boats floating over the top of the trailer your in to deep folks!!!
Love your channel, but don't ever think you've seen or done it all. We are natives of a coastal NC fishing village that our ancestors have always been . My father -in-law and husband have a combined total of about 70 years of commercial fishing, Coast Guard and tugboat Captain and engineering. They swear the next generation is coming up with stuff that makes them afraid and they've had some idiots to deal with. Just some information I found while doing genealogy, one of my great grandfather's and their sons worked for the U.S.L.S.S. in Chicamacomico NC. Love your commentary 😅 Give 'em hell!!
ThNks my friends. Much loveee
Enjoying your show keep it up
Thanks
G'day Big Dan Australian ole Gal just become a big Fan of yours. Love your commentaries, make me laugh. Thanks for a giving us a Show of good Superb Quality. Keep em coming and I am awatching. ❤
The first boat that wanted it straight. I put a chunk of chain with a hook that was about a foot too long. Hook it up. Drive up to the parking lot. Then, winch it up to the lock. It will self center.
That's a lot of what not to do video 👍🇺🇸 Great channel 👍
I live in Pensacola and videos like this remind me of all the shenanigans I've seen, bless you sir
How cool man! We were on the big red panga. Thank you for the awesome shot buddy! Love this!
The narration for the phone call was hilarious 😂
buskin 2900 was built locally by Fishbump tv. nice series on build btw.
I’m checking that out
This is the 3rd video I've watched. You are great!!!! I enjoy your commentary. It's great to have a host that knows what he's talking about. I'm now subscribed. Thank you & get that trailer deeper in the water, you know all the way up to the ratchet strap wintch 🤣🤪👍
Funny, in the pnw rarely you see guys firin up and reversing off the trailer. Ramp time is sacred. Load your crap in the parking lot, plug in, tail ties off, back her down the ramp tilnthe tires are in the water, buddy grabs bow line, and you back up the rig n let her skate off, buddy pulls her down thw dock and ties off while you get that truck n trailer the heck off the ramp, other folks are waitin! Fire up the motor(s) after the trucks parked
Those drones shots are the best!!! More drone footage!!!
I know this video is old but I just found this big dan show,, crazy I never knew there was so many inexperienced boaters out there,, but the part of the show I like is he seems to be knowledgeable of the type of boats they're driving their Motors and how to operate them properly
Welcome aboard my friend
Hey Dan I live in Texas and I love your show. I would like to see more of your channel 😊
Thanks my friend! Hit that Subscribe button, it’s about to get crazy this year!
I thought people in southern California couldn't drive a boat. I don't feel so bad now.
I ❤️ what u said what u hav learned over the years … Bc it took me years to learn how to back up our boat trailer but I didn’t learn n a crowded boat ramp 😂
That’s a busy ramp. Only one I’ve seen busier was at lake oroville when they ordered everyone to evacuate the lake. I’ve seen fist fights at the bidwell marina there
Niceee
You need to have the husbands and wifes miked up 😂
Dude at the end with the pontoon. Close your bimini, pull the trailer up some so you touch the bunks sooner. If the wind is blowing you around, start out straight but 5 or 10 feet to the side, so by the time you get to the trailer, you're right in front of it instead of trying to pivot the boat on top of the trailer.
Yesss this
Watching people launch and recover watercraft is always a spectacle. Find yourself a popular boat launch and just sit and watch for a little while, it wont take long before you are wondering "what the hell are they doing?" Where I live here in California it always seems to be the people with the most expensive vessels that don't have a clue what they are doing. I always feel sorry for the wives with husbands that have no clue what they are doing, because the husband always gets man at the wife for him not know what the hell he is doing, and the wife takes the brunt of his frustrations.
Money can buy you anything and everything in the boat world looks easy until you’re the one behind the helm
First thing before getting close to the water is for everyone that may drive the tow vehicle to go to a large, empty spot of a box store parking lot. A slight grasp of backing a trailer goes a long way when at the ramp under pressure to get it done.
I feel like im doing things wrong after seeing so many people power drive up there boat. Although certain boat launches in Michigan dont allow it. Ive only owned my 21-foot boat for one season. Launched and retrieved over 20 times. But never had the problems these people have. We approach the dock. I slowly creep in. My girl and i reach for the posts and hold the boat steady. She gets out on the dock with the rope connected to the bow eyelet. Wraps it once around a post near the front. Then i get out to go get the trailer while she simply hold the back of the boat in place. I pull in fenders and tips of bunks at top of water. Get out. My girl tosses me the rope from the dock. I physically pull the boat on the bunks till it stops about a foot or 2 from the winch. Strap it up. Then whench it up tight. Pull out slowly. If my trailer is close. The process takes no more than 60 seconds. Idk..... please tell me if im doing something wrong. I do get my ankle wet just to pull the rope in. But never had a problem so i stuck with it. About to winterize next week.
Nice. Nothing wrong with that if it works for you. Power loading is a thing of the south. It’s just what we do round here and it works. It’s quick and effective.
@DJares3 I was told that is why the dock area always gets screwed up and needs to be dredged out. Because power loading pushes the lake floor to other sides and makes it shallower in other areas. Haven't been boating for long. But seen videos about it and it kinda made sense. Especially seeing your drone videos. It looks like a muddy swamp in Louisiana. 🤣
I love your show, you me LMAO
Thanks
Having grown up with boats on lakes I thought I was pretty good at launching and recovering boats on trailers. Then I got a center console and started fishing on the coast…..yeah, I got a rude awakening!
I looked like some of these people the first couple of times I launched. That current is the devil!!
Bad enough with a tidal flow, try a river. I grew up on the Des Moines and Mississippi, later on the Kansas, Kaw, and Missouri. I now work the saltwater but my backyard is mown grass to the water of a Florida river.
looks like a very easy ramp to launch from. I've always had to launch and load all by myself and never had any problems. always lots of crazy and drunk people at lakes
They are doing a lot better than the folks in Miami.
Don’t think I’ve ever seen so many people in the water at the boat ramp
What not to do is video your wife she was not happy about that! Lol #1
Love the applause!!! LOL
Hahaaa
Its crazy how many people back their trailers in way too far.
Daddy if you don’t let that child fly that drone 😂
Lol
Tips on backing a trailer first turn off the backup camera use the mirrors second turn your steering wheel the way you want the front of your trailer to go third find a large parking lot and practice and remember the shorter the trailer the faster it will turn
Floats because in the WATER TOO DAMN DEEP…PLUS: tires are buoyant…usually TOP OF FENDERS SHOULD BE “ABOVE” the water by 2”-3”!!!
These videos are awesome. Boring yet completely satisfying
Glad you like them!
What is up with those trailers floating? I've had boats for almost 50 years, I have never had a trailer float.
Like what he said. We’ve got a 24’ Everglades and our trailer floats it’s a little more difficult but if you know how to back em in and you don’t back that trailer wayyyyy into the water it’ll never float
@@South_alabamawelder Ahhh!
@@Esteban_Herrera I always back the trailer to where the read axle is under and the front tires are about half way up with water get it as far up on the trailer as you can then back down til the front axles under and pull up the rest of the way. Works like a charm everytime
@@South_alabamawelderwhy not put holes in it to let water in and out so it doesn’t float? Why make it sealed like that?
@srcastic8764 that's what I did on my jet ski trailer, too logical for most...
Me: "Who would watch this?" 3 hours later "ohhhh" Subbed.
All these people with trailer boat guide-ons...and they still can't put their boats between the poles....gotta love boat ramp follies!
Tomorrow is gonna be nuts around here
This is a great show😆
i just found your channel and subscribed. Thank you for the commentary it really adds to the videos lol
Never seen so many people load their boats by hand before 🤪🤪🤪🤪🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I notice a lot of people just pull out without hooking up safety chain or strap at bow. I’ve seen boats roll/slide off and damage transom a few times in our area because of this.
A complete id10t or to much alcohol
One other thing people seem the forget about when two people are launching or recovering a boat with 1 in the boat and another in the tow vehicle…use your hands free cell phones to communicate instead of yelling at each other.
That would be to easy lol
With the jet ski trailer. I can say from personal experience it's not easy to see it and I've done the same thing myself 😂
We’re all a little guilty
I'm guessing that having duel engines, with separate throttles is better than a single engine and throttle for docking maneuvers? ;-)
I would have spent time at my local supermarket parking lot, practicing until I felt comfortable maneuvering my trailer, than find an out of the way dock to practicing launching and recovering my boat.
Absolutely!
Nice videos it is funny how most of these trailers are in the water way to far LOL
As square or boring as it sounds, my husband and I have a little tailboard or safety discussion prior to each launch / load to ensure we are on the same page. Who will do what and when/how. It makes things so much easier when the wife can drive the boat and/or back the truck/trailer in, very difficult for one person to do it all.
I like it
Can't believe those junk tires on the big black truck.
lol 😆
Brilliant trailer design, floating. LOL Was that designed by an engineer from the big 3?
🤣
Hey, Dan Why is it that that the trailers do not have guide rills help guide boots on
Some do, but not many. I think the guide rails are typically for smaller boats (skiffs/ bass boats)
28:35.... That's one in a row! LOL!
Lol
You certainly got the title of this video correct!!🎉🎉🎉
Why do new boaters refuse the free training most boat dealers offer when you buy a boat? If the dealer or the owner refuse to offer some free training, look elsewhere. I watched a new boater kill a battery trying to start the engine. I heard is wife/gf ask him why he refused the dealers offer. I offered help and had the motor running in quickly. They should also take some cones and find an empty lot and practice backing a trailer.
Feeling bummed out with the results of Alabama/Texas game. Woke up at 3 a.m. and started watching The Big Dan Show. Roll Tide
Man I’m with you, Sad day but we’ve been good for to long.
How perfect does that first guy need his boat?! I'm shocked he didn't bring a level.
Backing your trailer way too far to the point it floats must universally be a Alabama thing cause everyone is doing it lol!
USCG used to teach a great class on boat handling! I took it with a friend and learned a LOT!
In our country powering onto trailers is prohibited due to erosion at the ramp. The secret to backing is to start with everything in line
Wow. Where’s. That
Dude with pontoon. Put the Bimini down, big sail!
I grew up with a 16' 85HP runabout in MN..i learned to back up that boat, launched , vehicle & trailer parked , get passengers on board, and off in 5 minutes. These people seem to need more practice. I'm shaking my head.😂
Same thing but with an 18' 120HP I/O runabout. Sometimes I would go out alone and had no help. Sometimes I had help that were no help. lol.
@@Esteban_Herrera Nothing like taking 2-3 friends for an offshore trip and not being able to trust any of them to park the trailer, launch/load the boat, back the trailer. AND, all of them actually having a boat themselves to begin with.
Guy in the black pontoon needs to sell it!!!😂😂
Big Dan, where is the boat ramp you feature located on the Gulf Coast?
Orange Beach Alabama
21:18 "Holy smokes, somebody perfectly centered it!" The boat or the knot? I was watching the woman XD
26:08 Advice? With that wind it's easier to go in a little faster. It almost seems like he's just running idle. More thrust gives you a straighter line and smaller corrections.
Even in SAfrica we build trailers that autoalign the boat when you ride on... on the beach, different tides etc etc etc.
New Sub here... Love your channel. Why dont they unload their passengers before trailering?
Beats me. Welcome to the channel
The bloke on the pontoon boat might think about giving up boating and take up painting 😂 regards Terry in Australia
"Mr Black Flag" aboard the pontoon needed more trailer to aim for. It was in too deep!
Indeeed
Double wides to the water are made for lots of people so they can walk it in.🤣🤣🤣
🤪😂😂
He's trying to look good instead of being goof he's a goof ball boater 😂
My wife can't back a trailer to save her life. I'll dock on the off side, go get the truck/trailer, set it, put her in the seat, then go get the boat. Then she'll drive out. She actually has dyslexia, so she can't help it. So we just adapted and had a blast anyway.
Thank you for your service in the Coast Guard.
There are some right muppets in this boat slip.😂😂😂😂😂😂 Dean from the uk
