I had an old 86 honda fourtrax 2wheel drive that was in worse shape bodywise and put a new Wisco piston and rings in it. If you got it all apart like that, $160 for a piston is totally worth it especially with everything else tight in the engine. That mistake will haunt you

For as bad as it was it's running pretty good 👍. Some hunter will buy it. Give it a shake down ride and maybe it'll stop smoking so bad. Thanks again for your time today and have yourself a great week.

As far as the timing off, the timing was way off because you had the piston at top dead center exhaust stroke. Both lobes were in valve overlap, that's why it looked way off. You just had to turn the crank 180 degrees, and now it would have been in TDC compression stroke.

I can hear as your driving it hard, the choke is staying on a tiny bit. If you can smell even a hint of fuel in the exhaust that’s likely why your seeing the blue smoke. It’s a fuel enriched I believe and on this model the spring gets weak and when you slide the choke lever to off, the weak spring won’t fully return the valve.

Just FYI you should never hone a cylinder if you’re not going to replace the rings. They wear to seat and once seated to the cylinder they will not seat to a fresh crosshatch. And as one guy said in your comments.... if you’re honing you need to wash the cylinder really good with soap and water then wash with brake cleaner followed by some oil to keep it from flash rusting. Great to see it run again.... great job. Oh PS.... when engines have a slight miss to them and cleaning the carburetor does nothing to help it don’t rule out oil getting into the combustion chamber and interfering with the air fuel mixture due to really bad piston rings or scratched cylinder walls.

I purchased a 1999 KX250 from a sheriff that got it at their police auction. Spent over 800 fixing the bike up and rebuilding the engine. Had the bike listed for sale and was going to make a good profit from it being it looked better than it did from the factory. When I listed it I had a lot of interest in the 1st day. One person begged me to hold it. They even sent me 100 bucks to hold it and said I could keep it, even if they did not show or decided not to buy it. I said sure. They showed up 2 days later with paperwork. They showed me the paperwork and I verified it was the same bike and same Vin #. Now could of fought it legally? Probably yes but at what expense? I felt bad but at the same time had a lot of money into the bike. Good thing they offered me what I had spent on the bike and parts. I gladly accepted and they got back a nice bike. They should me pictures of it they took a couple weeks before it was stolen and it was in good shape. How it made it through a police auction baffles me till this day and worries me. If reported stolen dirtbike that a police report was filed on in the same state a police auction sold it makes me wonder how many more stolen dirtbikes and ATV's are sold in police auctions that are reported stolen. Only 8 months had passed. Not like it was years

24:31 Man you need to slow down your speed on the drill. You are trying to get a 45 degree cross hatch in the bore. At the speed you are spinning that sucker you are just making radial scratches in the bore. When the hone makes half a rotation you should have pushed it from the top of the bore to the bottom, and in the second half of a rotation you should be coming back up from the bottom to the top of the bore. So much faster plunge in and out, with a much slower rotation.

you dont just wipe the bore with a rag, use hot water and soap, spay wd of pb ,as for valves hand lap all the seats, any play with the valves at full lift needs to be checked and new oil seals, as for the stuck top ring, make sure the groove is clean and the top ring can rotate with out hanging up, if in doubt just buy a new piston and rod pin .Most single rod engines use a roller bearing on the crank (Suzuki) side play is a hair, but if the rod has angle wobble that you can feel its time for new roller bearings, which means you split the crank install the roller bearing and press the crank halfs back together, its a pain to do, the first time.

For $250 you could’ve fixed it right with new piston, rings, valve, seals, chain. Why go thru all that and put old rings back in it? Now take it back apart fix it right.....

!!!check the small end rod / piston pin .
Is the pin rocking in the rod at all ?
My 650l was misdiagnosed by a Honda dealer ( I think they straight up lied )
6k after full rebuild I have a dead motor and only certified mechanics supposedly worked on my L .
Some of these clowns are just intent on fixing said problem instead of finding out what caused it. If they don’t find out what caused it it comes back and eats your engine

1996 160 Suzuki stolen from the backyard that was like, 2000 that's a good thing but for that my brother he took it to through a pawn and went scuba diving with it and bring it back and yeah I hope They got it fixed and got it running and have big fun with it! I just wonder what the people thought when they got it back to wherever they took it to and they started looking at trying to get it to run? Keep it up you're doing good!
