- Milton Little, M.D. is the trauma surgeon who operated on Tom Segura after Tom's basketball dunk contest accident. He joins Tom for this episode of Tom Talks to discuss Tom's injuries and recovery, as well as his own upbringing, time in medical school, and experience as a track and field athlete.

Seriously. Felt the same way about the cardiothorasic surgeon who fixed my fucked up lung before I could die and gently walked me through the whole process. Older, super tall, kind white dude who just felt like having Santa Clause do surgery on you. I'm still grateful for him today, 10 years later.

Milton got me through calculus in high school, legitimately the most athletic, driven and intelligent dude I’ve ever known. And he really is that cool in real life. Amazing dude. He legit could have probably played D1 football or basketball as well.
Didn't realise Tom was such a great interviewer. Stays engaged, knows when to interject, asks good questions and says just enough to keep the conversation flowing.

As a medical student this was so refreshing, uplifting, inspiring and captivating. Dr. Little is truly the best of us 👏👏
2nd time watching it
As a PharmD that rounds with attendings, residents, students, etc, I must say that the way he was able to explain things in an understandable manner to the average, everyday person with no medical field background was incredible. There were a couple times you could tell he was about to go into a deep biological, anatomical, and physiological explanation, but caught himself and held back because he knew his audience, which speaks to his great bedside manner. I've seen countless physicians speak medical jargon to patients who have no clue what was just said after the attending leaves the room.

This is easily the most interesting one Tom has done. Hats off to you Dr Little for what you do!

I was given Dilaudid in the ER once and I'll never forget it. I felt it move through my body in a warm rush and for the first time fully understood how people get addicted to drugs. It was such an incredible experience that I hope I'm never given it again.

I don’t have very many role models in my life. Now that I’m going back to college, it’s refreshing to hear stories of people that have made it. Just shows me that success is possible as long as I persevere.

I really hope Dr Little becomes a real friend for Tom, he seems like the exact kind of guy you'd want to be around in so many scenarios. He is also the complete opposite side of the intelligence, reasoning and logic scale than Bert.

I love this for Milton’s patient’s. Clearly he provides top notch medical care but on top of that, he is an example to follow and someone with a story and a background that is real. What a top notch guy.

I had a grade three pilon fracture in december last year. I had 2 different x-fixes on. My pt is going great now. Following you and your story has helped a lot. I ve been a fan of yours for year. This has been very interesting to listen too. My surgeon is based out of Ypsilanti and my PT went to school at eastern michigan. Hope every thing goes well for you and I can tell you have a great dr.

I've never experienced a traumatic injury but I feel this pod is an important thing to hear. Dr. Little is awesome! I hope I have someone like him around in my time of need. Healthcare workers of all kinds are saints and it takes a special person to put themselves into that environment and take control.

Hospital staff are amazing. Had cancer and everyone was so kind and hardworking. From the receptionists, porters, kitchen workers to surgeons. All incredible humans!

This is such fascinating conversation. I broke and dislocated a humerus in 2013, and then broke the other side clavicle in 2018. I had my same surgeon for both operations, here's to Tom never needing Dr Milton again!
