Well Edgeworth is afraid of earthquakes and Phoenix knows that soo this part is not necessarily romantic (all the rest is, like I'm not saying they aren't a couple, they are, oh god, they are, but this specific part is not necessarily romantic)

The idea that Wright's mind immediately jumps to Edgeworth, KNOWING he's scared shitless of earthquakes, despite also being in very real danger himself, is pretty romantic in other people's eyes.

What’s ironic is that when the game designers saw all the gay fanfics coming out of the first game they essentially doubled down as much as they could
To be honest when I started getting into Ace Attorney myself I was vaguely aware that Phoenix Wright and Miles Edgeworth were a popular pairing. However I mostly just assumed that it was just the internet being the internet and didn't think much of it.
Then I played the first game...
That's when I began to see it. Just the premise of switching majors and going to FREAKING LAW SCHOOL for someone you knew in elementary school is insane to me.
I completely understand that friendships are absolutely beautiful and important, however I've never really heard of switching career paths completely like that for someone you knew that long ago and haven't had contact with since in hopes of forcing them to speak to you so you can help them. Apparently Phoenix was studying something in art more so it really is a drastic switch. It doesn't really seem like someone you would do for someone you don't at least feel something for on a subconscious level. It must be something more queer platonic at the very least. (That word is used for bonds stronger than friendship but different from romance I think? I'm not sure)
Then I found out what happens later on and wow. It's a lot.

It’s rare that I see people who play through this ship natumitsu and stick with it until the end on the trilogy. So this is refreshing. People either don’t see it at all or they start shipping them but then slowly start to ship someone else with Phoenix (either Maya or Iris but on rare occasions, Franziska.)
