I'm of the belief you call it "Crawl-Ela Coop-deVille", and put a dalmation dog paint job on it. I don't know, something that just popped into my head. Following the build for sure.
Make sure you adjust the valve lash on that OM617 before you stuff it in the Mini, valve lash has a huge impact on power, economy, cold starting ability, and ultimately engine longevity. It'll be a huge pain to do after you have the engine stuffed halfway under the dash to fit it in the Mini engine bay. Also, don't use a Victor Reinz valve cover gasket unless you want it to leak in a couple months.
Rudy, I REALLY like the idea of grafting that rear roof section back onto the roof where you cut it off behind the B-Pillar. And you definitely need to keep the little duck tail flip-up thingy on that rear roof section too!
The fwd burnout brings back memories, when I was a kid we would steal a couple of McDonalds food trays, stick them under the back tires on a fwd vehicle, lock the e-brake and then rip it. It was absolutely hilarious fun.
You guys work on two icons of my past or present: Mercedes Diesel owner (once it was a W123, now a new one) and and Mini Cooper Convertible owner ( Gen one, still have it) . Rest asured I pay close attention .... LOL
Static Charges will allow an airbag to go off so keep that in mind if you’re not gonna resell them and not use them, cut the leads and tie the Wires together and tape them off that will make them enable to go off
Crawlin Cooper, Mega Mini. Rudy quote: " Because this car is actually really tiny." Build thoughts, consider the seating position if you moved it back 8 inches or so.
I’m all for being different and to each their own but I just can’t wrap my head around the decision to use a Mini Cooper for an overlanding build. Since you like Corvairs like your dad I can’t help but think a Corvair Greenbrier Van would have made for a super cool overlanding build. Oh well I’m sure you’re gonna whip up something cool.
People are already upset with Rudy cutting up a Cooper can you imagine the outrage if he was to cut up a Greenbrier not to mention the On-X budget restrictions.
I must disagree, we own 4 of these 1st gen MINI's (2 Convertibles & 2 Sunroof Hatches) and love them. One has almost 289K and had driven to 49 of the 50 states. So much fun!
@@Mini-Driver No! Bad mini driver, you know the life you chose do not try to defend it. These are extremely well known for being absolute piles of junk. How many were sold vs. how many are still with us today? How much money have you sunk into that mini with 289k on the clock? Probably enough to buy a new Toyota 🤣. As for how they drive.... Come on man my 1989 Volvo 240 station wagon (that ended life with well over 300k on the original motor) was more fun than any mini I've had the displeasure of driving.
@@cflwhat Over the 20+ years we've owned our original; one clutch, one supercharger, brakes & rotors, and general maintenance. Right now the radio isn't working, my only issue. You can't fault any vehicle because of the lack of maintenance by owners, Or the fact that many change the original engineering. I had a Toyota Supra, Honda S2000, and a few motorcycles. We also have a Mercedes and Subaru along with a Suzuki outboard on our boat. Do the maintenance and have fun driving.
@@Mini-Driver sounds like you have a way cooler collection than I do... Too bad you like mini's so much, what a waste. Also you would have the first ever mini with that many miles and that low of maintenance so forgive me if that's pretty hard to believe. 1st Gen minis were everywhere when they were new to 5-10 years old. Now you barely ever see them. There's a reason for that and it's not because people modify and crash them. They blow up then people modify and crash them 🤣.
@@Mini-Driver lack of maintenance for sure contributes to the plethora of known huge issues especially with 1st Gen mini's. It's a joke to try to defend what is well known for being an expensive and needy car to maintain. If you like them that's fine but be realistic about what they are. A fwd bowl of dog water.
That should be a neat little buggy just make sure you take enough time to get the engine/mechanical part of the build straightened that seems to be the one that bites you.
Looking forward to watching the "MINIRAD" in all its glory bombing up and down the trails! What a creative interesting fun project. Thanks for bringing us along!
Watching these onx builds and builds like these inspire and motivate me to get out in my shop and build something or finish a project, somtimes it makes me want to go clean the shop, thank you. Keep up the good work.
THE PERFECT NAME ! MC RADICAL MC FOR MINI COOPER & RADICAL FOR RAD DESIGNS . AND THE ICAL FOR POPSIVLE CAUSE ITS SO COOL . CANT WAIT FOR ITS OUTER SKELETON ROLL CAGE INSTALL . GREAT WORK AND VID . ALWAYS 👍
I really like what you're doing with this build! I also, really like how you've ended up editing your video content compared to when you first started out. You've come a long way & hope your channel continues to grow
This will be the only practical offroad mini cooper on the planet a one of a kind fable creature aka a Unicorn so I think "Mini Radicorn" Rudy & Zack make a good team cool content too thanks for sharing ❤️😎👍
All right Rudy, enough is enough. Higgins is the real talent here. It's time for Higgins to get his own channel. And merch. And an editor. And maybe Instagram and Patreon.
Congrats, looks cool. It’s going to be the mighty mini amongst the heifers the others are building. After last years build you had to gain a lot of experience about what type of vehicle you need to win
Can't wait to see where you go from here, Rudy and Zach. To gain more headroom you could always bubble top it with lexan (or plexiglass to preserve the budget). Saw Ian Roussel ( @full_custom_ian ) do it with some plywood, heat and an air nozzle on his show.
I subscribe to both your channel and your dads channel. This is no disrespect to your dads channel because I enjoy his content too, but whenever I see that you have a new video,it makes me smile! Keep up the good work.
I think you should have an external roll cage, like an eco skeleton. You should call it Mini Me, like in Austin Powers because it's a smaller version of the other rock crawlers that will be in the challenge.
Let me know if you think we are off to a good start!
I got faith in your abilities to build I kinda doubt the Mercedes diesel engine tough Mercedes diesel aren't reliable
Super Cooper !
@@douglassmith8749I said the same thing kinda. I called it the Cooper Trooper. LoL
Concept render looks amazing
Yuuup
I think you should call it the RAD'ley Cooper.
Not bad 👏
Definitely....
Sounds like a Name Trevor would come up with. Hahaha
Compliment 😜
I love this one.
I was thinking Lenny, for Lifted Mini... but RAD'ley Cooper mops the fricken floor with that. Good job, Doug.
Damn it, now it’s stuck in my head.
YES! Great name and someone can contact Mr. Cooper to come drive it!
I'm of the belief you call it "Crawl-Ela Coop-deVille", and put a dalmation dog paint job on it. I don't know, something that just popped into my head. Following the build for sure.
Sooper Cooper of course 😊

^ This ^
It's a little tedious but you really need to.
Plenty of videos on how to do it.
100% agree
Rudy, I REALLY like the idea of grafting that rear roof section back onto the roof where you cut it off behind the B-Pillar.
And you definitely need to keep the little duck tail flip-up thingy on that rear roof section too!
Maxi-Cooper for sure. The design ideas are on track to have that looking like a Cooper we'd all be seen in.
Sounds like a feminine hygiene product.
Awesome work. Love the teamwork and the compliments \ friendly slagging and banter. Keep it up, from Ireland 🇮🇪

Zach is finally showing some comfort in the shop. I haven't seen his hands in his pockets
Those axles are absolutely hilarious for such a tiny car. Approved
You guys work on two icons of my past or present: Mercedes Diesel owner (once it was a W123, now a new one) and and Mini Cooper Convertible owner ( Gen one, still have it) . Rest asured I pay close attention .... LOL
DERN! Rudy, that little thing is going to be H U G E ! ! ! ! In a presence sort of a way! Can't wait, GREAT project idea
Big fan of the angle you cut the back end at
Call it Big Mini. Good start. Put an awning with the roof top tent
That front motor assembly should be the the primary point to start building a sand rail around it.
Loving the sketch up of the Mega Cooper! Excited for the progress
Rudy, looks like you won't need to worry about approach and departure angles.
Oh looking forward to this! Cant wait as I love the idea.
I’ve owned MINIs for ever, like Matt and his corvairs. Build this MINI MONSTER!
Static Charges will allow an airbag to go off so keep that in mind if you’re not gonna resell them and not use them, cut the leads and tie the Wires together and tape them off that will make them enable to go off
Absolutely love it! Reminds me a bit of Jeremy Clarkson’s off road Mercedes SL only cuter.
Crawlin Cooper, Mega Mini. Rudy quote: " Because this car is actually really tiny."
Build thoughts, consider the seating position if you moved it back 8 inches or so.
I’ve definitely been waiting for this build .
So far it’s looking super cool
This is going to be Awesome Rudy !
I think I'd call this the McRad. Loving the direction!
Mini Monster Cooper. I am digging the look! This is gonna be cool!
❤The Monster Mini Meatball seems like a fitting name.😂
The MINItaur - half MINI, half Benz, and a whole lot of something the other teams won't want to mess with when meeting it at the onX challenge.
King Coopah

My dad has a really cool Corvair project coming up. I didn’t want to oversaturate the market.
That thing HAS to be called the Mini Blooper
I think its great your setting yourself up for a ton of work.
Great. You chosen a really neat project, good luck!
This is the only good use for a mini ever. Thank you Rudy!

I think that Mini is going to look awesome!!
Ok, you have my attention. This idea has some real potential... especially if the frame and drivetrain are beefed up. Yes, you have my attention!!!
A lot of work in a little bit of time. I am surprised you guys are starting this build so late in the game. Good luck!

Great build I can't wait to see this one finished. Definitely the coolest build in my opinion from all the onX teams.
This is going to be way cool can’t wait to see how you roll the over lander elements into it
All right Rudy, enough is enough. Higgins is the real talent here. It's time for Higgins to get his own channel. And merch. And an editor. And maybe Instagram and Patreon.

The mad mini, looks like one of the vehicles from the mad max movies
Congrats, looks cool. It’s going to be the mighty mini amongst the heifers the others are building. After last years build you had to gain a lot of experience about what type of vehicle you need to win
It’s good to see Zach coming out of his shell. He seems more comfortable being in front of a camera.
Can't wait to see where you go from here, Rudy and Zach.

This is going to be an awesome build
The mini crusher . It's going to look great 👍
