You made my dad so incredibly happy! Two times - on the “couch” and then on the other couch at home! Your work is wonderful and your passion and kindness are so lovely!
The way he went from "no, no, I don't want a ride," to being in seventh heaven was something. This video is spectacular! Rodger is a gem, and his collection of historical photos adds so much to the discussion. He mentioned how you couldn't get tires during WWII - my mom was 22 years old and riding with friends on bare rubber, and her leg was broken due to poor traction/braking. My dad had a Model A in 1928, and he "souped it up". Raised the fenders with a brace and bit to drill the holes. He said "it went faster than anything the state police had". S Denver to Palmer Lake is about 47 miles.
MAKE ROGER A REGULAR on TFL Guys, I highly recommend that you make this extraordinary gentleman, Roger, a regular on TFL. His wisdom is priceless and his character is delightful. Let us learn from this outstanding man.
This got me in tears ❤ I’m only 36 and I feel alien amongst modern vehicles- I can’t IMAGINE getting to live through the gorgeous cars of the past being all around. So glad you could gove him this experience!!!!
Wow, Roger is very healthy and sharp for his age. I have a lot of sad experiences with people over 80 who were simply not there anymore. Amazing to see this gentleman still hold it together. Cool to see him happy seeing this car.
my neighbor was also born in 1931. a few years ago he was feeling good and called me on the telephone to say that the was an antique car show in east hampton conn. we are in shelton, about 42 miles away. hr asked to drive him in his model t runabout to the show. since the car had not run in two or three years, i prefaced the trip that if i could start the car without repairs we could go. a check of the oil, coolant three pulls of the crank and we were started. we filled the gas and the tires and made the 80 mile 'round trip without any problems, and a real good time too. such a thrill to cross the connecticut river from middletown to portland. he's gone now, and his widow sold the car, but the memories are the treasures.
When it misses make sure all the coil packs are pushed down all the way, sometimes they wobble up and lose contact. My dad an I have a 1925 Model T and also had a 1926..... so we have experienced all the issues. I am sending my 80 year dad this video now! These videos are awesome!
What a Great old fella. You can imagine he has Forgotten more things in all his years than you even know at your age. Im 43 and we needed and need to pick their brains for their experiences of those days, especially ww2 veterans and other foreign wars and events throughout the last 80 years. Good vid guys
I knew Bert, a huge figure in the Canadian antique scene. My ride in his Model T touring was unforgettable. With the top up, it wafted along- the most relaxed drive I’ve ever had. But then he turned off the gravel road, climbed the bank and rode across a plowed field as though the ditch and the bumps weren’t even there!
This is what it’s about, the people and their stories. I’ve been around the warbird community for decades, and that’s what I was always there for, those stories. Sadly there’s not many of them left, so glad you were able to capture his experience on video.
That was a really kind thing you two did for that man, he said he lives in memories mostly and you really gave him a great new one. I'd like to see you take the Model T to a High School Drivers Ed course for a show and tell session to show the kids learning how to drive about the Model T and how life was back in the early years when you really had to "learn how to drive". Maybe you could arrange something with a local High School.
If you didn't, you guys should consider getting a photo op with roger in poses like his old photos of when he was 13. 80 year comparison shots would be amazing to see and I'm sure the family, especially Roger, being a photographer, would treasure it! Plus, I echo the sentiment of the comments. If it's not too much hassle and Roger's up for it, more videos with him would be awesome! Maybe you can invite him to work with you on a repair or upgrade sometime of the T! :)
My mom who was in her late 80's when she passed but would be well in her 90's today, and I remember her talking about her grandpa owning one of these & carrying her for rides. Her grandpa was the 1st & only person that owned & operated a couple of gas pumps at his Stores & how people would say he waisted his money because it would never catch on. I guess like electric cars of today.
That was a very kind thing you did. He enjoyed that so much. Have you done a mpg test on it? It'd be funny to do a door dash or delivery with it. Drag race it with some of your other old vehicles. Take your girlfriend or wife on a date with it. Just brainstorming some ideas.
As a Norwegian i liked this video very much! I watched the other Ford-Model T Videos and i liked all of them! Keep up the good work TFLclassics! Greetings for Norway!
I agree with him. It’s great that people are still saving old cars like this. Even if most people today never really have an attachment to them people still care to save them. I’d like to own a few old ones one day.
As a Canadian, hearing 1944 being referred as "mid-war" still throws me for a loop - we were in from the very beginning with the British so "mid-war" for us is closer to 1942. Had to stop for a minute and remember that Rodger's "mid-war" is using the entry of the USA into WWII as the starting point, not when Germany invaded Poland in 1939.
Such a cool video. This is what preserving old cars is all about. I had my model T out last night where we visited the local "Ford's Garage" restaurant. A family at a table near us had their 1 year old there for their birthday celebration. I offered my car for rides and pictures and it made their day. You guys absolutely made his year by sharing your car with him. Also, the Frontenac head was developed by non other than a Louis Chevrolet. I think all of us can identify that name. Louis' passion was racing Fords. Ironically his name graces the brand that is Ford's biggest competitor.
This warmed my heart so much 🖤 Our elders can teach us so much and I think a lot of people have lost sight of that in current day, what a cool character!
im pretty sure u made that mans day! great to hear from someone who had actually owned one as a first car. sadly these people are getting fewer by the day and its great to document their stories and experiences
My Mom was born in 31. She made it to 91 years old. My great Aunt was one of the first women to get a drivers license in Eastern Washington and as I recall from pictures she took her test in a Model T. Nice episode guys, Roger was over the moon as the kids used to say.
I would really like to see you guys road trip the Model T. Even if it's just going down backroads to Wyoming or something with all your overnight gear.
What a great video! You young men are fantastic! We are loving your deep connections to humanity and the progress that have occurred from the abilities and genuine depths of intelligence that we possess!
I'm in love with my 2017 Ford Fiesta (Winning car in WRC1, in 2017.) with the notorious DPS6 dual dry clutch (LuK clutches) electrically actuated transmission. .....Which I adore. ❤ ...Thanks for this. Bravo guys, for connecting The dots of all our shared history. Also, this guy seems like he's likely to live to well over 100. He has zest, and he's sharp as a hundred razors.
Cars are time machines. This is a lovely example of it. The TFL team did good with this video. If you want a challenge, a cross state challenge might be an idea. Or going camping with it, up to a cabin as mentioned in the video.
You two have terrific rapport. Great video and so nice you did this. He is a hoot. I had a similar experience with a friend of mines mom a few years ago, she was '84. I took her out in my '29 Model A, she had had a '29 coupe. She sold it in around 1952. She still remembered everything about it and loved mine. I like how he knew about the "no-skid" tires.
Love your channel and happy I found it. The Model T videos are my favorite. I was given my great-grandfather's 1923 T Touring during Covid and back to life after being parked since about 1948. I take my 89yo grandmother to Cars and Coffee about once a month in it. Her reaction to our first ride was about the same as you taking Roger for a ride. She used to ride around in it as a child after he'd given it to his parents when he upgraded to a 1933 Plymouth, which I also have. Keep up the great work guys.
Thanks so much for this wonderful video. It was a joy to watch the fun you gave to Roger. TFL you are the best because you guys have ❤. Since you love the Model T, I highly recommend the next time you’re in the Detroit area you must visit the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn. Not only does it have an amazing collection of historical vehicles and objects, but all sorts of Model T’s run around the village all day. Lots of experts to talk to. It’s a must visit.
Oh this was smiles all through. 66 years between me and him and i could feel all the excitement he felt about his first car. Didnt even know there was OHV heads! Bless his heart man
I loved this! Thanks for reuniting Roger with a model T. It was great hearing his recollection of his younger days with a car like this. I'm sure it made his day! I really liked listening to his stories as well.
DO AN MPG TEST! That would be very interesting to know. I would not have guessed that Rodger was 93. He spoke and acted at least 20 years younger. Imagine the change in the world that he's witnessed. This was a truly great video, and I'm glad you were able to bring him along.
This is one of the best videos TFL has made! The pictures and stories and knowledge that Roger has at his age is incredible. Keep making videos like this TFLClassics
I am sure that Roger would love to go out again, maybe when the weather cools off a little. What a life, living and traveling all over Europe as a photographer. Still sharp at 93 years old. My grandfather was 23 years old when he married my grandmother in 1920. I wish that I would have asked him what type of cars he owned from the mid 1900's through the end of the 1950's. He was driving a Pontiac Bonneville from around 1966 until he passed in 1979. Prior to that I vaguely remember that the car might have been a Packard, but I distinctly remember messing with power window switches until my mother stopped that and warned me that I could wear out the power window switch.
Bless him. Ive spoken to 20 year olds less switched on then he is. Listening to classical music and working with technical things. Its not just the fish making the Japanese live longer.
That's my grandpa! Thank you guys so much. He's still beaming
Three cheers for Winter! Hip hip hooray!
Your grandpa chill af ngl
Your grandpa is a gem! I was literally crying over his joy. He is so precious! ❤❤. Thank you for sharing him with us ☺️
Hooray to your Grandfather! 🎉
nice!
For a guy that's 93, he still has all his marbles in his head. That's amazing.
We should vote for him as president
He doesnt deserve the stress. @ae_house_of_fun
@@ae_house_of_fun I trust him to not lead us astray.
He is a good man
You made my dad so incredibly happy! Two times - on the “couch” and then on the other couch at home! Your work is wonderful and your passion and kindness are so lovely!
God Bless him. Him waving his hat is everything. ❤
He's such a sweet old man.
Quite possibly the best video TFL has made. 💯🇺🇸
Thumbs up for this, absolutely.
Damn. I just LOVED seeing his joy.
I agree!
Absolutely! Wholesome video
You guys are awesome. Roger went back in time for a bit, and that smile will be on his face for the rest of his life.
That wonderful gentleman is sharper than most people 20 years his junior
Roger is awesome! This gentleman has LIVED A LIFE. Wow. What a treasure he is.

He was bs’ing when he said no (well, manners), then offered his arm to twist.
@@garysarratt1 Which is just such an old school classy move. I would've loved to have a grandpa like him to teach him the old school manners.
This is serious TH-cam Gold... bless you TFL for this incredible video... his happiness speaks so much volume of this gift you given him.
MAKE ROGER A REGULAR on TFL
Guys, I highly recommend that you make this extraordinary gentleman, Roger, a regular on TFL. His wisdom is priceless and his character is delightful. Let us learn from this outstanding man.
Maybe a different channel? He’s a great fellow, maybe he could have some role in Classics, if he would want to.
All I can say is if they visit california again ill take them for a drive in a car thats now so rare you will not see another car like it.
@@pilsplease7561what cars you got?

Wonderful. Roger is an amazing 93 y.o. Sharp as a tack.
Remarkable what a difference a century makes in tech. Moore's Law.
Also notice how much he's laughing. A good sense of humor will keep you young forever.
He might as well run for president.
Unlike our current president and convect running against him! 😂

Great video, this is a perfect example of why we need to preserve the things of the past. Roger was 80 years younger sitting in that T,
I think you need to do another video and talk to him more about his BMW motorcycle and his trips around Europe.
Would love to see more photos!
