Avery Brooks put in an absolutely ridiculously outstanding performance as Benjamin Sisko. I don't know if he won any acting awards but he damn well should have done
I saw Brooks portray Paul Robeson in a one-man play in Chicago. It was the same play that brothers shut down in New York when James Earl Jones portrayed the great Renaissance man. I asked Brooks how many lines or scenes were changed? He said "Not one," and then said it was all about the way you portray a character. He portrayed Robeson with strength and dignity: Jones played him almost like a buffoon.
Avery Brooks being Sisko even when he is not playing The Emissary Captain Benjamin L. Sisko LLAP! He has a wonderfully unique pov as evidenced by the words and manners he uses to express himself. The entire audience was caught up in enraptured silence and attention while he spoke....talk about commanding the stage.
When I grow up one day, I wanna be like Avery Brooks. His character Hawk, was who Shaft (Isaac Hayes) was actually playing (not litterally, but figuratively)! "Shut your mouth!"
Captain Cisco was epic but he'll probably never be able to portray another bad ass character that can top Hawk. Seriously though Avery is a dynamic actor and he crushed Captain Cisco.

He's saying he's been touched by the fan's adoration over the years and that he's trying to live his best life. He also said that he's speaking from the heart, which is a rarity in Hollywood where people tend to give safe, canned answers to protect their careers. At least that's what I got out of it.

I went to my first comiccon in 2013. It was Emerald City though. I didn't go to Rose City until 2015. Missed him by 2 years.
