Mate! amazing surf as usual! and great insight, specially breaking down the stigma of the sharpness all the way up the board! i ve been riding boards like that for ages and won't switch!! great review mate keep up the stoke, the good vibe and the great surf! stay safe!
Druca Ferreira yeah, that edge gave a nice amount of bite and I really enjoyed how it felt turning through water! Thanks for the feedback, stoked you enjoyed it!
I got this board I’m 80 kg 38 lts was too much in the quad. I ride it as a twin and I can turn it well It can compete with mals Wave count is through the roof I rode it in 3 foot and the rail certainly grabs and just holds the line extremely well. It’s a heavy board and I can duck dive it easily. I had the j lpz squirty and didn’t like it. This board is fun fun fun 🤩
Question about the twin did you put it on the front or back It seems not designed for a twin because the twin is in between the two basically from a mechanical standpoint
I just got the exact same board. have it set up as a quad and I hate it. I came to see if anyone else was saying the same. so you think much better as a twin?? holds way too much as a quad
Great review as always. You should do a review of a long fish (long and narrow, instead of short and stubby) like the Vouch Vish! I see his boards on Instagram and they’re beautiful.
Ferdinand Arcinue thanks, stoked you enjoyed it! I briefly had a Christenson Long Fish - I think it was 7’6... it was lots of fun, but I don’t think my surfing or the waves we get locally would do the board justice, so I didn’t do a review. I’ve just got a 6’7 Twinzer that I haven’t ridden yet, but will be doing a review shortly... ✌️
hi there, i know this isnt your most recent video. but it seemed like you have tried both something fishy and squirty from gerry lopez. so i wanted to ask you which one of the two you would recommend for an intermediate surfer.. Please help me out! (extra info: i don't usually get big waves where i live..)
As someone has already said, you looked very relaxed on this one. Could it be that you need that kind of litreage? That it more suits your weight? (And I speak from being 70kg and riding 32-34l)! And might I ask, the board looks like it may be ‘heavy’. Does the Surftech method of manufacturing make for a heavy, dense board or is it just the same as any poly? Great review. It looks a little different and interesting. I’m looking forward to feeling one up when I can!
Hey! The board is heavier than a performance shortboard, but similar glassing/weight than what you’d find on other fish and more boards of this style. Regarding volume, it’s such a personal thing and I personally prefer to ride lower volume, but that isn’t everyone’s preference... ✌️
@@TheSurfboardGuide Well, I got the 5'6"-36l and rode it today in some soft head high beachies. (I'm 5'8" and 70k. Man, I am stoked! It's the first time i've had a Twinnie (set up as a quad-trainer wheels!) and some of the feelings and sensations were awesome! I'm sure i've heard this said before, but after one particularly nice cutback, I thought that it felt as smooth as a hot knife through butter. Effortless! The immediate take aways are; It paddled into some hard to get on to waves. Like more suited to a long board. I reckon this could grovel pretty well! The speed was also effortless. After a cutback it felt like it kept speed up very easily to transition to the next phase. I'm going to get a tail pad. While I was getting used to it, I fell off the back a few times cos not enough grip. Used, on your advice, a fairly normal quad setup and it felt great. But am going to bump up the front fins size tomorrow to see how it goes. Very happy. I'm sensing a change in how I approach surfing and the boards i look for in the future! Thanks for the review!
ThePokerSurfer Gday mate. I rode it as a quad. Like I say, I reckon they may act as trainer wheels before committing to twins! But the board itself is so ‘twinnie’ that you certainly can feel a massive difference when riding it. It felt great! Like cheating! And the 5’6” at 36l felt great for just traversing the lineup and catching some, in other circumstances on other boards, hard to get on to waves. Let me know how you get on
I just got this board at 38 liters. I have set up as quad and its grabbing too much. anyone else experience the same? wondering how it is as a twin set up? I guess as you said in review, the rail really grabs more than I'm used to and right now.. I hate it. hoping I get used to it.
@@TheSurfboardGuide fair enough it's personal preference. Just as an objective observer on this your bottom turn was smoother whereas on your low volume boards you tend to have to do a 3 or 4 stage turn because your struggling with the board sinking. Also you tend to bog and stall when rebounding off the foam on your cut backs. On this you were flying. Great review and thanks for doing these
What do you like better between the two? I’m considering one or the sugar in XTR or this? How is the construction on the something fishy? I’ve had some fusion HD and they just fell apart.
@@MasterPetrie @MasterPetrie hands down Sugar in XTR ....... One because it's a twin and secondly the tech is WAY superior from my experiences. Glass on fins would be the ultimate but not sure if available. If anything the best Futures template is the K2 for the optimum synergy.
Craig mate you bloody surf good but honestly mate if you shed about 4 to 5 kg you would rip even harder. I'm not being a dick just honest feedback. If you are happy all good mate I just reckon it's holding you back especially as you ride low volume sticks.
@@TheSurfboardGuide I do t think so. 90kegs won't sink on 38L. Get amongst it. Would be keen to see you Alex Knost or Asher Pacey it up with the cheater five. Yeew.
I enjoyed watching the relaxed ride of the Something fishy for you...as you obviously enjoyed it as well.
It was good for a change!
Looking at getting this board in the Fusion HD set up with MR twins w/ small trailer fins. Thanks for the review. 🤙🏽

Thank you thank you so much, I've been waiting for a review on these and couldn't find one, I got the same as exact dimension.. you just reassured me.
Rudy C stoked you enjoyed it - hope you’re enjoying your board!
@@TheSurfboardGuide btw did I hear you say large fins in the back and medium in the front?
Rudy C yes - they are mediums in the front, and large quad rears 🤙
Hello, thanks so much for the reviews. What is your preference between this one and the lost round nose retro fish ? Thanks. Cheers from France
volume is your friend and if the shape is right it never holds you back. Get a nice sharp midlength! It's gonna improve your surfing.
Thanks for the tips!
Thanks for the great review ! Looked comfortable under your feet. Nice one.

For small wave surf (2-4 ft) which board is recommended? CI mid or Gerry Lopez something fishy?
Hey, both would be great!
They’re very different boards, so it’s tough to compare them…
I just got this board at 38 liters. I have set up as quad and its grabbing too much. anyone else experience the same? wondering how it is as a twin set up? I guess as you said in review, the rail really grabs more than I'm used to and right now.. I hate it. hoping I get used to it.
How big are your fins? I’m using smaller fins here and I gel that then allows the tail bite to be a positive rather than a negative…
@@TheSurfboardGuide for the record I did switch to future pizel twin and I am pretty happy with the board.
Can it be used with twin fins?
Yeah, why not!
You surfed so much better finally riding a board with volume that matches your weight.
I'd disagree- volume is a personal thing and this was great for this board, but i wouldn't want to ride shortboards at this volume.

What about as a twin?
The fins are somewhat in the wrong spot to really just set it up as a twin.

Just like we made them 50 years ago. Nothing new here accept the two added fins for more drag.
